Not sure I'm going to say this right..... Nature is layers. Whether it's a river bank, a mountain, or a forest, they are all made up of layers. To be truely good modelers we must understand those layers and how they were created so we can properly recreate them. The techniques you have been demonstrating are a perfect example of how to do that. Great stuff. Cheers - Larry.

Thank You Larry. Self doubt is no respecter of persons. Often times I have to stop myself from moving forward creatively because I am being too hasty or over-confident in my approach. I step back, humble myself, think it through more, and then re-approach the scene once again until I feel confident moving forward - one layer at a time. Cheers ~ Boomer.

@@derekalexander4030 Thank you. The term "Super" in the context of Diorama (according to Francois Verlinden) meant that it was big! It has a big footprint with heavy detail. This is hard to find but a good read: www.thriftbooks.com/w/superdioramas_francois-verlinden/2797199/#edition=3170669

Morning, thanks again... in my notes for scenery that I will model the saw mill creek or river its maybe about 20' wide but the river bank was litter with old junk since it goes thru a industrial area for about 3 miles.. I'm excited to try your technique and to put different junk in the banks and certain walls with the trees overhang. I know I have to compress the saw mill , I will make it sexy.. thanks again

I'm new to your channel, retired with time available. Wish to landscape my new 16 ft by 18 ft o gauge trainboard. Please do a short video on top 15 tools. Its overwhelming to watch and quess what and where to buy. Not so much paints and glues, but tools like that small stanley planar, dental picks, scalpel. We know the proper tool makes all the difference
@boomerdiorama3 жыл бұрын
Thank You. I do not have a "top 15" tools for sculpting. The tools I use are my hands, the paint knife, the wood stick, and a small fan brush you see demonstrated in the videos. Many like the dental pick, and small Stanley plane, I acquired long ago. The tools don't shape the model the modeler does through practice. However, since you brought it up, I will consider doing a small episode of my favorite modelling tools. In the meantime please see this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kImXaHl_ab9sfZo and here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppCUpoV_ds1madE Cheers😁

I love that Fan Brush Stippling technique. For years I have used common pins, disposable pen tips, straw stalks, & fork tongs to get that effect. Now I have to go out and buy some old fan brushes from a thrift store for modeling. Thank$! Also that Pumice Gel, what is the overall consistency? You supered a comparison to Grout. To the best of your scents does it appears to have other materials in it? Part of my modeling enjoyment is too scratch build some of my components. Like Pumine gel. I'm thinking of testing grout, acrylic paint, short cuts of twine, homemade sculpt-a-mold, and water (or 50/50 PVA and water). Please let me know what you think? Jim
@boomerdiorama3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear you thinking outside the scenery material box - always a good thing. I'm not sure what makes "pumice" gel. It's the best artist product I have ever worked with. If the scale was huge I wouldn't use it for economic reason. For this size it's fantastic. I don't think too much about what other people use for scenery. Whatever works at the end of the day. Feel free to share when you develop a recipe though. Cheers.

Perspective and selective compression is often overlooked by many good modelers, but is an essential element for controlling what the viewer sees and doesn’t see.
@boomerdiorama3 жыл бұрын
Composition, perspective and selective compression are difficult things to master, let alone achieve, in 3D. The model railroad is an excellent subject to practice the craft. But it is nothing new of course. Originally, it was mastered in Europe with full size Dioramas as exhibits before the advent of the camera. Then the art form was forgotten until the late twentieth century when post - war modeler's, and artists, revived it in miniature form, and then it found it's way over to the model railroad genre. ~ Boomer.
