When the government set up social security, life expectancy was much shorter, so the government didn't expect most people to live long enough to collect, or if they did, they wouldn't live much longer after they started collecting. It was never intended to support people for decades upon decades. Of course, in the last few years, life expectancy has actually been trending back down because so many young people have been dying.

I see it even in IT. Work as a software engineer (java backend dev) for more than 6 years now, and most of my coworkers are 27+ years old, only a few of them are somewhere around 25 years old. But where's people younger than 25, like 22 or 21? Employers just don't want them, they're just too young and "useless" at work in their minds (meaning inexpirienced engineers can't contribute with high performance and increase business value asap), and nor employers and customers also don't want to waste time training them either. Where i work, ageism works both ways - not only when you're too old, but also when you're too young and you don't have much commercial experience. It's just pure greed and laziness. I've seen lots of ambitious and young guys who were rejected just because of that reason, and it's absolutely stupid. But it's 2024, and now it's employers' market in tech. My heart goes with young people struggling to get a job, it's not your fault, it's just an extremely awful job market right now. I'm lucky myself they still didn't lay me off for now, either.

The best way to cope with the current as well as incoming economy are by buying assets as long as you've got money. Just do bare minimum, work part time job, spent money as little as you can by being frugal and just do whatever hobbies that you had that could be productive for wellbeing..

I just saw a job posting for the field im trying to get into (HVAC) that at the top they said "5 years exp required" then at the same job posting said "10 years exp required" like these guys can't even make up their own mind. Not only that but the salary is between 50k-80k (But we all know they're going to make you accept 50k) and they said the salary is to be determined which means they'll probably offer you even less. There are guys in my city with that amount of experience that make 90k-110k+, like what? This is for a well known company too, united airlines.

You can find housing in the United States guys, you just can't rent. You need to look for low cost houses within your budget and take out a loan so you can make monthly house payments. I found a couple houses in my area posted for about 30,000 dollars, and that's really cheap tbh. It would just require several thousand dollars in fixes, which you can also include in your loan. You could get a 35 thousand dollar loan and if you pay 600 dollars a month you could theoretically pay that house off in 5-6 years and it would be yours. Getting housing isn't exactly impossible if you have a decent job. But we have already covered numerous times that getting a decent job is stupid since most employers don't wanna hire Gen Z workers, or pay decent wages so we can pay that house off quicker and have more money to feed, clothe, and enjoy ourselves beyond just the bare minimum. I hate having to put in maximum effort just to get the bare minimum society has to offer. It's ridiculous. (Another note is that this 30K house is in a shitty area and is run down as fuck so you're gonna be looking at the ass end of several thousand dollars worth of repairs you're gonna have to do.)

$35k is probably just a shed without a roof, and/or is in place wherebeing able to spend $600/month is a luxury. And that also doesn't take in consideration that loans have interest, so such 600$ payments will probably last not 5-6 years, but at least 12-15
