It's extreme weak reasoning as those events have almost no connection besides that Ace is Luffy's "brother". You can not take every single occurance of a sun as foreshadowing. The majority of OP episodes take place during the day where the sun is present. Is that also foreshadowing? Whitebeards beard was white and Luffy's / Nika's hair is also white... foreshadowing?

It's part of the way the story is written, not part of the lore itself. These events don't need to be connected for that to be foreshadowing, because the only connection they need is that they are in the same story, written by the same person. Now if Oda never intended that line to allude to the true identity of Luffy's devil fruit, then yeah, it's a coincidence and not foreshadowing. But your argument doesn't hold weight, because you clearly don't understand what foreshadowing even is.

I love how Gear 5 is so ridiculous that it makes Luffy really broken but at the same time it shows how crazy Kaido is because not many characters would’ve been able to roll with the punches with how weird this fight got on the fly. Luffy’s fighting style completely changed & his strength got a buff and Kaido was still going toe to toe with him. Gotta respect these legends.

Oda drew inspiration from the cartoon “Tom and Jerry.” Oda himself wanted to draw something funny and also wanted Luffy's fights to regain some funny elements, even though he was aware the general audience of One Piece would not like this concept because the general action sequences of contemporary Shonen manga are taken too seriously, causing the genre's uniqueness in the past to be lost over time. With the introduction of Gear 5, Oda wanted to create a polarity between Luffy's cartoonish humor and Kaidou's deadly seriousness.

Gear 5 reminds me of the old One Piece fights which I love. After Enies Lobby all of Luffys fights essentially became "big punch", but this just feels so good.

I prefer to think of the more serious nature of Luffy's fights in the later series as a deliberate character arc for Luffy. Think about it, even during Marineford, we still got a lot of funny moments during most of Luffy's fights. But when Ace died, suddenly we get Gear 4 and Luffy's much more serious during battles, which didn't feel quite true to who he was before. In fact, I like to think of Gear 4 as a false awakening for Luffy's fruit, like Chopper's Monster Point, or those beasts in Impel Down. It's like he was still fighting through the grief of losing Ace and wasn't in tune with the Nika Fruit, which is a major contributor for why we got Gear 4 instead of Gear 5 IMO. After all, if Zoan Devil Fruits have wills of their own, it makes some degree of sense that you can't draw out their full power if you aren't fully in tune with their will. Luffy's near death experience might have given him a clearer perspective and let go of that grief, since a lot of people feel at peace when they're that close to death. And letting go of that grief could have been what finally allowed his will and Nika's to truly become one, and unleash the full power of the fruit. And that's Luffy's arc of grief IMO. He was holding onto it and allowing it to turn him into someone he wasn't (albeit not a severe shift), but by getting back in touch with the man he was before he lost Ace, he was able to sync up with his DF and finally draw out it's full power now that his body is strong enough to endure drawing out Nika's power.

A detail I love about gear 5 is luffy’s fighting style and attacks, in pre time skip luffy had a lot more variety of names attacks that were mostly never used again, and was fighting a bit more creatively than post time skip, where it seems things got serious, the attacks were punches or kicks with better or worse haki, but with gear 5 he goes back to that fun nature of pre time skip, stuff like gum gum jump rope remind me a lot of luffy’s early fighting style

The reaction did NOT disappoint! I knew you'd love the direction Gear 5 went for. I remember when this came out in the manga there was a complete divide between those who loved and revered it and those who absolutely despised it saying its goofiness doesn't have a place in One Piece. Fast forward to a year and a half later when 1071 came out and predictably the same happened. Luffy's free spiritness is on full display and in fact empowers him. There's even a theory that since Luffy himself doesn't know yet that his fruit is Nika, he's still utilizing it under the impression that he only awakened his Paramecia the Gum-Gum and that his actual powers will come in full swing once he realizes he's not limited to applying rubbery properties. Personally I don't think his powers would change that much because the reason he had rubbery properties is because Nika's body is rubbery and his actual powers is basically it but could be applied to other things like Doffy's awakening. Oda with the thousand episode/chapter lie. He can't keep getting away with this lmao EDIT: I also wanna add that Luffy is the only shonen MC I know that has his own OST (Drums of Liberation) playing on bluetooth speakers that Zunesha is exclusively using. My man's Conqueror's Haki was also so out of control during his "revival" that not only he parted the sky by himself in the anime, hordes of enemies were also passing out downstairs once he started jumping around in pure joy.

The real reason for the dislike is that Luffy has always been a protagonist who made the most of a ridiculously weak devil fruit due to sheer willpower and perseverance, and with a lot of creativity. But then it turns out: Nope, it's the power of a literal GOD, he has been The Chosen One all along, whether he wants it or not, like every other effing shounen protagonist ever. THAT was the disappointing part for most of the critics, including myself.

A lot of what happened in skypeia does connect but oda could have chosen to have the new sun god stuff purposely connect to that even if he thought of it in the future so it's not certain whether he thought of everything like the fruit being a zoan back then or changed it later. I think the first definite confirmation is in dressrosa when gear 4 first debuted. During that time is when it actually doesn't seem like just a gum gum fruit. Gear 2 and 3 make sense within the paramecia limits, but gear 4 is an actual transformation like zoans and furthermore doflamingo stated that rubber shouldn't work like that which was the first real sign that he wasn't just a rubber human. Whether he thought of it in skypeia or not, I do love the connections. I don't know the exact thing, but I saw someone say that something used for the drums of liberation was the same thing used in the drums back in skypeia, plus the pose and the mentioning of sun god back then.

With the reveal of Luffy's Paramecia Fruit Gum-Gum Gomu Gomu no Mi's real identity as Human-type Zoan Hito Hito no Mi; Mythical Model: Nika, the series creators decided to make it easier for fans that from Luffy's regular techniques to Gear 4th will officially still be called out as Paramecia Gomu Gomu no Mi; but when Luffy activates his Fruit Awakening to Gear 5th Nika, it's classified as Mythical Zoan (changing history of Gomu Gomu up to now would be way too difficult). And I guess now we know that when it comes to Devil Fruit Zoan Mythicals, the abilities of the users act somewhat like a mixed Dual-Fruit Type Power-user. Like for example with Marco & Yamato, their Zoan Mythicals make them a dual-mix of Zoan-transformer & Logia elemental; like with Marco's Fire Phoenix and Yamato's Ice Wolf-God. And I guess for Luffy's Zoan Mythical it makes him a dual-mix Zoan-transformer & Paramecia-superhuman of rubber

Oh I'm 95% sure G5 is the last one. The only way it's not is if JoyBoy had a shortcoming in using the Nika fruit that Luffy needs to overcome but even that is unlikely to be resolved by another gear. At most Luffy will learn to use G5 better. The fact that Oda has him saying "it's my peak", yeah I agree, that indicates that he intends for this to be the last gear.

Like some anime Shounen protagonists. Luffy has some resemblance to Sun Wukong. But the latter's character is based of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman. According to the myth, he was a demi-god who flew towards the sun as a child. Thinking it was a fruit. Plus, Natural rubber is made by extracting latex - the liquid sap - from certain types of trees and other plants. While most latex is sourced from the Hevea brasiliensis tree, aka the rubber tree, over 2,500 varieties of trees and plants (including dandelions) produce the right kind of sap.

Now that I think about it. If Luffy is a zoan, that means he might have another form in which we will see his full zoan form. Coz I still think Gear 5 isn't his final form. G5 might actually be just his hybrid form. I don't know, may be I'm just stretching a bit.

G4 works more as Luffy's hybrid form bc he resembles Nika while still clearly being Luffy, whereas in G5 Luffy looks so much like Nika neither Momo or Yamato recognized him

1071: I think my favorite moment is when Luffy sends that blast breath back at Kaido and we see Kaido being charred black and then he exhales black smoke, like from old cartoons. Makes me laugh every time. And Luffy clapping his feet. I was hoping for the William Hanna Tom-scream though. Maybe next episode when Kaido starts doing some damage back. 1072: This was a fantastic episode! It was even better than the previous one. It’s because we got to see Gear 5 in full force. And once again it was because this added motion, sound, and color to what we already saw in the manga. GUM-GUM GIGANT was perfect!!!! Seeing Luffy with just the eyes on the black screen. Luffy jumping out of Kaido’s mouth makes so much more sense than him coming out of Kaido’s eyes. I loved the Woody Woodpecker-like laugh Luffy did when he also did the tire-like spinning with his legs right after the blast breath. I always got the sense that Luffy was actually jumping up and down when using Gum-Gum Jump Rope. I loved that when he got tired, he didn’t just deflate but turned gray and desaturated. And that when he powered back up again, he “chose the correct beat!” And the gorgeous colors!!! And then "Over the Top" starts to play! Everyone’s reaction to Luffy coming through the roof was hilarious. I almost wanted to see Marco’s eyes pop out too. I’m glad they kept in Yamato’s line about Luffy being white even though that was clearly meant to tell manga readers what Luffy’s coloring is. But they tweaked the line so it sounds less like she’s telling us and more like she’s wondering it to herself or Momo. And it’s always fun to see Luffy try to think. And I liked that they added in the first 2 pages of 1046 with Zunesha celebrating Joyboy returning but also affirming that this is still Luffy and not him being possessed by Joyboy like what happens in a bunch of other Shounen manga.

No matter how many times I see Gear 5 I just have to laugh even if its the same scene rewatched a thousand time Its just so much fun and radiates pure joy I even completely forgot that episode 1070 is actually pretty sad if you go in without future knowledge because back then everyone was just celebrating Luffy finally being down fully knowing what that meant XD
