Please, I'm begging someone to do a story on Dale Omsberg, who ran a funeral home in Oregon USA back in the 80's. Police found dozens of bodies stacked on each other, in wooden boxes, and thrown in mass graves with trash. It's a very creepy, dark, and sad story. Some people are still unidentified and others are missing to this day. He's the reason we have some of the current laws surrounding the death industry because at the time there were no laws around what he did! There's no coverage on this other than local news and articles from the time. It's a crazy story with a lot of rabbit holes. “On the afternoon of Oct. 16, 1984, police responding to a complaint of a foul odor found 16 un-embalmed bodies stored in wooden boxes and plastic bags in the funeral home’s garage. Some of the bodies had been there for six months.” Newport News Times

Always love the That Chapter YT shows and now listening to the Podcast shows as well. I have one point to add regarding the bit mentioned today about the Kuru disease of Papua New Guinea. It was, apparently, solely attributed to the Fore tribe due to their funerary cannibalism and, it is most definitely linked to what is known as Mad Cow disease... it is not a disease in the more traditional sense of the word where people become ill via bacteria or virus... this ailment is caused by a proto-protein known as a prion. it generally is species-specific (ie prions of one species are generally understood to afflict members of the same species... so directly transmitted by cannibalism). Prions are understood to reside in the brain, and afflict the same organ. how they afflict it is quite horrific... these proto-proteins break down more complex proteins... effectively dissolving the organ at a molecular level. Might be worthy of a dedicated show in itself?
