Well said! As a guitarist, I know that one of the greatest feelings ever is ceasing thinking, opening up and letting it happen. Eric Clapton said of SRV "He was a wide open channel. He channeled the music", and I think he's right. At my level, that channeling happens in fleeting bursts but it's indescribably wonderful. It's a feeling of oneness with everything. It is the dragon I chase every time I practice. Jeff Beck is uniquely gifted and maybe the greatest guitarist of all time, IMO, but he didn't get there by solely his own efforts. I think that he too is a wide open channel. And once you've found that ability and experienced that feeling, why would you do anything else?

as a musician of many years myself, someone show me how they can do it better than Jeff. I have heard thousands of guitarist and not one can do what Jeff does, and those who think they can can't. he is a true virtuoso and he earned every bit of it!
@stubhead7 жыл бұрын
...Those who think they can can't... oddly, the ones who think they can be themselves well can do that better than Beck! HE is kind of a head case, and, like McLaughlin, if you pretty much INSIST on doing things differently every time out, some of that will match up with certain listeners sometimes better than others. I no longer just auto-buy EVERY McLaughlin CD, and I don't think I've spun "Beck goes to the Opera" more than a few times. But with both these guys, they KNOW they're headcases too, and plan accordingly. How many times can you re-write Blue Wind anyway.

UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING!!! RIP JEFF BECK!!! I'm watching / listening to this for the second time in a row ... Am I imagining things - or do I see a pick very briefly in Jeff's right hand, particularly during the lightning-fast single notes, for "Scatterbrain"? Regardless, this is a Jazz / Rock Fusion tour de force!!! I loved Jeff since I was a little kid in the mid 1960's when he was in the Yardbirds ... Every evolution of his musical choices and guitar style has been a revelation and delight to me ... I saw him five times - the last time being with Stevie Ray Vaughn in 1989 in St Louis ... It seemed like he never got old - and he NEVER LOST HIS GUITAR PROWESS!!!
