Jeff's tone is very shrill and thin. What songs did he contribute to Rock history after the Yardbirds? Jimmy (and Jimi if you mean Hendrix) will stand the test of time because great songs endure much more than great solos.

@@supraphonic8143 Yes, I agree with you, but there is much more than your point of view. Hendrix and Page did great songs, but the point of Steve's comment is about the technique, and in this Beck was greatest (for me also... although the discusion is open and there isn't absolute)

@@floydnut5908 Beck had a longer career but Jimmys work with Zep was far more influential and and has stood the test of time. Jimmy has written or co written many songs that have defined and created a genre of music and will continue to be hugely influential. Beck was a great guitarist. Page was that, and composer, producer and leader of one of the greatest rock bands ever. Beck was a great gutarist. period.

@@supraphonic8143if you think that you’re a dying breed. Jimmy Page is only the third best guitarist and Jimi Hendrix isn’t even in the top ten! Jeff was behind the scenes, influencing other guitarist like Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. they were both asked who the best guitarist was. They both said Jeff Beck. Have you ever heard of Johnny Winter? David Gilmour? Ever heard of Eric Clapton how about George Harrison all of these are decidedly more creative than Jimi Hendrix I guess some of us are a little bit more educated. Jimmy Hendrix was a showmen that couldn’t read music. By the way I own all his albums. A song called “Hey Joe” was his best cover. Nothing after the Yardbirds? Ever of the song superstitious sung by Little Stevie Wonder Jeff Beck wrote the music and play guitar on that song.😮

That said, he is also somewhat of an acquired taste......you have to have listened to a untold hours on end of listening to guitar players of all genres to really appreciate what J Beck is offering. I like Jeff and there is no doubt he is the master. That all said his actual songs are not so great. Because we Ended as Lovers is a classic. I guess as I have grown older I tend to enjoy music that is less technical and more about feel and tone. Jeff falls more into the shredder category. When I was young I loved that style of play and now not so much. He is truly gifted and has kept it going for decades and that is incredible.

"Truth" was the first Jeff Beck album I heard aside from his work with the yardbirds, and it still gets me everytime. Rod Stewart's voice fit perfectly for the heavy blues influenced album, which surprised me because I knew him as the guy who sang "if you want my body and you think I'm sexy.. blah blah". Not my cup of tea, but he kills it on "Truth" and as far as Jeff, I don't think I ever heard him play a note that didn't come out exactly as he intended it to. And I was amazed at that version of the Indian song "Nadia" he did later on in his career. He did those whirling swirling Indian vocals with the guitar and it sounded beautiful.

Jeff is one of the best but Jimmy doesn’t take a lead because his playing isn’t what it used to be. He even makes a horrible mistake on the Bolero riff at 3:32. Page stopped making music decades ago and is just resting on his laurels. Beck still puts out new albums and tours constantly.

RIP Jeff.🙏 I grew up on "Bolero" as a teen after hearing Ravel's version as a youngster. My mom and dad loved his version. At 68, I'm grateful I had the freedom to play some of my music for my parents and that I've been able to see this man reinvent himself every time he picked up a guitar.

Rick Hibdon - As a 15 year old I was also lucky enough to Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group in Feb 1977 at the Hordern Pavilion here in Sydney , Australia. As you know Jeff Beck was in his full on Jazz rock period at that stage and I didn't appreciate the performance at the time , as the 15 year old me was only interested in his Yardbirds/1960s solo work with Rod Stewart, I'm still glad I saw the show in 77 and very glad Beck recorded a live LP with Jan Hammer from that tour as it wasn't till 10/11 years later I fully appreciated his 1975-1980 Jazz rock phase, I've subsequently seen him twice over over the last 15 years here in Sydney at the Enmore theatre down the road from my place , both times with Aussie bassist Tal Wikenfield and Narada Michael Walden on drums - fantastic shows and I got Jeff's autograph . 🎸👍😎

Guys like Jeff Beck and Ronnie Montrose and their ability to play such awesome versions of the theme from Peter Gunn as heard by Jeff Beck and Ronnie Montrose's version of A Town Without Pity bring another dimension to the legacy as guitar gods by exposing another whole genre to their audiences. We are lacking of their talents every day since they have passed yet thanks to this and other video cache collections can hold on to their brilliance.

Beck came from rock roots but he was an explorer. He could have put together a Stones or Zeppelin type super group but he was an innovator. He was bored by that. He went to places no one had been before. He created a completely new rock music genre. How many notes did it take to recognize a Jeff Beck song that you had never heard before? One or two. You knew right away it was Beck. Unmistakable. It's one thing to be original and another to be great but Beck was both. Which is rare. Long live Jeff Beck.

Great post, thank you Sir. In my book, this post, which displays the two GOAT British masters of electric guitar, Beck and Page (and friends), proves that above all forms of art, music is timeless, endless, primal and as close to heaven as you can get on earth. Yes, to me anyway, this is war without violence. As Metallica's guitarist announces at the end of the presentation: "God Bless Rock and Roll baby!" Stay safe everyone SEPT 21 FL USA

Wow! This is the first time I've seen Page play an electric Fender 12-String... I've known Johnny Winter occasionally played one but I've never physically seen one since 1976 when browsing a pawnshop in downtown San Diego, where IIRC, it was listed for $275 (used, of course).

Yeah,Muddy Waters lived right down the street from my exwifes family in Westmont I’ll. I guarantee he never forgot or had to learn anything from any skinny British guitar players same goes for Chuck Berry,Stevie Ray Vaughan or the three kings Albert,Freddie or B.B. Give me a break may be the dumbest comment ever on KZbin. Any time you see a video of British bands watching Muddy,B.B. or the 3 kings they are in awe as they should be. Those men were the architects and saying they came here showing them anything is highly disrespectful and just a pile of shit.
