In this video we install a boost gauge in the MK7 Golf R. This is the P3 boost gauge, and also has tons of other gauge readouts you can see. In addition to that, we will look at how the STOCK BOOST GAUGE reads up to 40PSI of boost, and 5psi at idle. The P3 gauge is a very easy install, and cool upgrade for the Golf R. Thank you to P3 for providing the gauge for this video. #humblemechanic

That 4.1 0-60 is sick to think about and respect to you. I'm amazed and thankful how far technology has had a positive influence in the automotive performance world. I think when i was a teenager the Lotus Esprit Turbo was the first car I remember reading about to get to 60 in 4-second range and that was the early 80's. Impressive sire.

Good heads up on the OBD plug. A year after I bought my car I was using a bluetooth OBD reader, keeping it plugged in all the time. By that time my factory battery was 3 years old, and just was not up to snuff. My suggestion, if your getting this and you haven't replaced the battery in a few years, may be a good idea to replace the battery as well.

Absolute pressure is better when tuning the vehicle that adjusts load and fueling based on the altitude. You dont need two separate maps and sensors to determine the actual engine load that is being produced compared to the reference map for requested load. Just simplifies a variable.

I know it's got a lap timer, but it's a shame it hasn't got a 0-60mph or 0-100kmh. I know other cars have them and so does pretty much everything that's got GPS (like some satnavs or things with a gyros which pretty much EVERYONE owns. Do you know how to get into the OBD settings and get engine oil pressure, gearbox oil pressure and gearbox oil temp on the centre screen? As I'd love to get it on there 😊 I know you can get engine oil temp on the clocks/drivers screen and engine water temp is always at the bottom. I know if that went either high or low you'd soon know about it before even looking at the water temp 😂

Hey VW experts. I’m in need of some desperate help. I have a 2013 VW Tiguan. It’s a 1.4 tsi, check engine light came on. I scanned it and it has only 2 codes. P2178, and P2188. Engine running too rich at idle bank 1. The car starts, runs and drives perfectly, there is no smell of fuel at the exhaust, car doesn’t hesitate or anything. It’s rather strange! I took out both MAP sensors, sprayed them with MAF/MAP spray, let the air dry. After much frustration and screaming I took out the “interestingly engineered” coil packs. Removed the spark plugs, they where all the same across the board, all had the same normal carbon build up, no one of them looked cleaner than one another, all normal. No smell of fuel in the spark plug holes, they all looked dry and normal. I looked at some of the OBD parameters, the air fuel ratio at idle was 14.65, the fuel pressure was around 790psi and the O2 sensor was reading. I really need some help from you guys, I’m just an enthusiast and I’m not too knowledgeable in VW specific stuff. Thanks so much everyone I really do appreciate any help and hopefully solving the problem. Anything else u guys need to know to figure it out, please ask. This is the second time writing this out so I’m sorry for any mistakes! 😂

Car has just hit 50,000 miles and is always been taken care of and serviced, no accidents. No vacuum leaks as my mate suggested I checked. Thanks so much for any help.

Charles this is interesting content but I feel the majority of your followers are in older VWs. The number of us actually putting boost gauges in our 2019 Rs is vastly smaller than the audience of people trying to get the gremlins out of their Mk4s. More Mk4 videos!

Thanks for the feedback. This is actually something I can look at based on views and demographics of each video. The number say the R videos win out. Lol but don’t worry the Mk4 still has plenty it needs. But it will be car down type stuff like blend doors and rear suspension bushings. I’m not ready to not drive it. Lol

You should setup the shift light on the P3 gauge 👌🏼
@HumbleMechanic

I may do that for autoX. The car is so quiet I can’t hear when it gets high up in rpm. But it will shift anyway so it’s not a huge concern

It matches the font of the OEM PM. I do think it would be cool to have a full OLED display

Join the club. I've heard that people have tried using an OBD "splitter" of sorts to run both simultaneously, but it introduces lag and various other issues with the JB4's operation. Oh well.

We have analog versions of most of our gauges that only need a power/ground connection and read boost directly from the intake. They can read battery boost, battery voltage and 2 analog inputs. Also, you can switch this OBD2 gauge over to analog and back on the fly.

It has nothing to do with being a gauge. It's just the difference between relative and absolute pressure.

Performance Monitor for VAG (third party app) does pretty much everything the P3 can do. You need a rooted android phone and a BT OBD2 dongle/Torque Pro App. It relays the info from Torque right to the AA Interface/infotainment screen. You can select and choose what data/clock themes you want and everything. Costs far less and is basically what the stock performance monitor should have been.

i will guess why without watching the video as the thumbnail is the question. Its because compared to traditional gauges where 0 means atmospheric pressure but actually is around 14psi, this one shows 14psi when it sees absolute atmospheric pressure. In other words - N/A car with this gauge would show 14psi with 100% throttle. EDIT - kinda stupid thumbnail. Video was not about why that gauge shows 40psi, it was boost gauge install/how to...

Also nichts nachzurüsten! Ich verstehe dich nicht! PS: ich hatte eine Lust auf Englisch zu schreiben ✍️
