Have you done testing to understand the function of the EVAP venturi and the potential side effects of removing it? Is it just the EVAP system or is also the PCV system that’s affected?Also to call it a “Boost Leak” mildly inaccurate. More accurately it’s a recirculation. The difference is a boost leak is pressure lost outside of the system, a recalculation is the pressure recirculated from one side of the turbo to the other. That matters because all the energy from a boost leak is lost, where this style of recirculation from the pressure side to the vacuum side actually helps to increase the inlet pressure which helps to decrease the pressure ratio. While the turbo still needs to flow more air to make up for the recirculated air, it actually recovers a significant portion of the energy lost. Lots of VAG engines use this principle to help maintain crankcase vacuum during transient conditions. Removing it is A) Stupid because it’s a smart design, and B) nets very little benefits from a power potential, especially considering the drawbacks. Also, it’s nice to say that you’ll pick up 10-15WHP, that doesn’t really say how that will benefit people with different Airflow modifications. Is that 10-15HP on stock air flow levels or on something like a “stage 2” that increases airflow.

Is this the same concept they used on the VA wrx’s, but the “leak” was present in the BPV rather than the new updated inlet for the VB? I recall reading though forums and watching a video of the stock BPV leaking, but was told that’s actually a relief valve by design and is beneficial for the motor at stock turbo power levels. I did swap over to an upgraded aluminum one on my VA but only when I upgraded my turbo since my tuner told me to do so. I have an ETS turbo kit on the way now for my VB but I don’t think it provides a replacement for the turbo inlet so I’m looking at different brands. But now I’m not sure if I should even replace it or leave it stock

@@luvhcchristhe only way to know if you need to replace it is by seeing what kind of pressure drop there is inside the TIP. At stockish airflows, I would be shocked if you’ll gain much if any power with an upgraded TIP, perhaps on stage 2 airflows you’ll see some benefit. I would say in your case, you’ll definitely start out flowing the TIP with the ETS kit. But, the only way to know for sure is to do proper testing and not just “10-15HP” without providing any airflow data. “Will Tune for tocos” has a good channel where he tests individual components and provides actual real world results.

@@JordieG8 gotcha. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll still probably take a trial/error approach with the setup. Yes, I’ve poked around on his channel! Very good info. I think I’ll ask my tuner (m-tuned) what he recommends since he just wrapped up a VB on g30-770 last week for the stock motor. I plan on doing a full IAG shortblock once released but my priority next year around late spring/summer is the STI drivetrain swap to match up with the ETS kit 😈🔥

Seems like the thermal efficiency should improve since you don’t have to overspin the turbo anymore though, no? If I had to guess, I’d say Subaru chose this design for cost reasons, not performance (and certainly not efficiency reasons).

No tuning required! we ran plenty of tests and the car runs great with no tune. As far as hp you wont see any negative affects most likely small gains with no tune and of course more noticeable gains with a tune. (even simple ots tunes) To answer your question on mpg, the inlet hose will not directly affect your mpg. However... if the butt dyno feels power gains after install we cant be reasonable for a heavy foot😁

Is the inlet safe to run in Canada? Because of the removal of the coolant line. I have heard that it helps prevent ice forming at the turbo inlet

Although you are not wrong, in our early on testing we sent out a handful to some of our customers in colder climates such as the upper Midwest. I wanna say we sent a couple up to Canada as well but I can’t recall. Anyways, we found out that our in let hose worked perfectly even in really low temperatures without any freezing issues.

The big plus side is the added performance how ever since it is fixing a leak, it does mean that the turbo will not have to work as hard in turn leading to better longevity of the turbo.

I saw this and the version 2 on Subimods. I assume that the version 2 can be used with an aftermarket intake or as I just ordered a Cobb intake tube that utilized the factory air box. Also, what was Subarus reason for having that venturi the Perrin part plugs?

you would be correct we offer two versions of the inlet hose. one for use with our intake and another one for use with various aftermarket intakes. As for the venturi, its for creating vacuum on the EVAP system under full throttle. It was not on previous generations due to emissions rules.

The only disadvantage is in extremely cold climates where warming up the in coming air can help with some ice that can form on the inlet it self. HOWEVER... Subaru didn't do this on any US car from 2015-2021 models of the FA engine. Subaru only did this on some Canadian model cars where they can see below freezing temps quite often. This is also in climates where they need to have battery warmers and other things to help get the engines up to temp quickly.

Easily removable? yes. However going back to stock would require removal of our part entirely as our inlet adapter has the block off plate machined into it that pairs with the plug. What's the reason you'd need/want to go back to stock?

The venturi is for creating vacuum on the EVAP system under full throttle. It was not on previous generations due to emissions rules. Manufactures need a way to create vacuum on the EVAP system to test for leaks to control fuel vapors entering the atmosphere. Emissions regulations have changed to where they need to be able to test this under light load and high load conditions, where before, they only needed to test it under light load. In older cars during light load, the intake manifold vacuum provided enough for the testing to occur. Subaru had to come up with a way to create enough vacuum under high load for the same testing to occur and this was their answer. Most likely Subaru upsized the turbo to make up for the loss of efficiency and still hit their HP targets. I think this is one of the reasons why we are seeing really awesome HP from the current gen WRX’s.

Various tests (Australia, Europe, US...) prove that you are NOT correct. Nowadays, Intakes are so advance that we talk about a very few HPs added. Basically, the investment is NOT worth.

This is not a typical intake nor a typical turbo inlet hose. As this part provides more airflow to the turbo, (making power) and solves a boost leak allowing the turbo to be more efficient (making power). Consistency/predicability, and reliability are reasons to replace components on a mass produced vehicle with a set budget. While this may increase HP/TRQ by only 5-10, it corrects a proven boost leak. Also, 6 * 10 is 60, so if you replace 6 inefficient components of inferior make (to meet the budget) you can pick up 60 in this hypothetical situation. All of this becomes increasingly more likely and necessary if you are tuning the car for higher boost and correlating power. Nobody needs to make these changes, but I appreciate the option to do so.
