Okay, start the clock. My phone ordered on 10/9 arrived on 10/14 - iPhone 16 Pro - 256GB I set it up about 7am US/Eastern and it took 10-15 minutes to port my line over from Mint. Got on the chat at 8:00 Eastern to get it unlocked as I paid for it in full when I purchased it. By 8:30 Eastern, the request was submitted. They said 48 hours, so let's see how that goes. It's just past noon Eastern on 16 October, to give some perspective of when I did all of this. Edited to add, I power cycled the phone just now it's it's unlocked. No SIM restrictions as of 12:13 US/Eastern on 16 October. So less than 4 hours to get it unlocked. Pretty smooth process. Just be patient.

OK, I’m just curious. Why wouldn’t you just buy it outright from Apple or from Verizon for $1200, is it just so you can get the year of free service? I mean it’s the exact same price and it would already come unlocked.
@Iabananwnsjslwl27272 ай бұрын
How much have you paid
@buffuniballer28 күн бұрын
@@Jboogadawgg - yes, I would have paid the same $1100 from Apple, but wouldn't get $300 worth of service. Since I had a year of experience with Boost with my wife's line, I knew I'd have good coverage. Actually better in some places. When we were in Alaska, she had coverage on her Boost line when my Mint Mobile line didn't. So, my pre-paid year was up and I wanted the iPhone 16 Pro, so it was buy it from Apple for $1100 and still pay $25/month for service, or buy from Boost for the same price and get 12 months of service, cutting the effective cost of the phone by $300. It was an easy decision. Since I'm on a post-paid plan AND I paid in full, the phone was unlocked. The real question is why would I leave $300 on the table by buying from Apple instead of getting the same phone at the same price from Boost and get a free year of service?
@buffuniballer20 күн бұрын
@@Jboogadawgg - yes, the year of free service makes the effective price of the phone $800 instead of $1100. Plus, I got almost $800 for selling my previous iPhone 15 Pro 256gb, so it really was a nearly free upgrade. Sold my phone for $700, probably could have held out for more, so $100 for a year of use and a new phone. My wife's 15PM will likely be the next phone we replace next year.

You can also go with a $25 plan and finance it over 3 years (and not upgrade after that to keep a $25/mo bill). Financing for a 1 TB 16 Pro Max is $44.42 over 36 months. You’d have to forgo the $1000 bill credits but it all goes toward the higher cost $60ish/mo plan
@HeyNickJ3 ай бұрын
So I’m trying to understand why you would do that? If you’re paying $25 plus $44 to finance the phone you’re at about $65 a month. I suppose you’ll be paying the difference if you did the $65 plan and the thousand dollars off so your monthly rate would be a little bit higher.But you’re getting a much better network experience if you take advantage of that and the ability to upgrade sooner.
@RuralSquirrelJuror3 ай бұрын
@@HeyNickJ I don’t want to upgrade for a very long time and just have a $25 per month cell phone bill. The 16 Pro Max has everything I have wanted since I had the 8 Plus. I adored that phone but I upgraded to the 12 Pro for the storage space. While I do like it a lot, it just wasn’t what I wanted. I’m really curious to find out how close to a decade I will make it with the 16 Pro Max. I want a heavy duty camera phone I can just pull out when I’m walking my dog. I want it to not overheat and last a long while. It needs to have a long reach with the camera so I can take pictures of the faraway squirrels that won’t let us near them. I’ve tested out the camera control button enough and I’m content with it, I want to get rid of all software buttons for the camera and make better use of that space. Speakers are a notable improvement. What are they going to come out with anytime soon that will even want to upgrade for? It’d have to be even more RAM (I’ve really needed this upgrade to the 8GB, 12+ would be fantastic but not necessary for my phone, but definitely needed on my tablet) and pencil support. Which I already do have an iPad for. I’m looking toward having it for the better part of a decade
@RuralSquirrelJuror3 ай бұрын
@@HeyNickJ Thought I replied, but guess not. At the end of the three years of financing (or sooner, if I were to pay it off), my bill drops to $25/month. I don’t want to upgrade after this. The only things I could want but not NEEEEEED are 12 or more GB of RAM, and Apple Pencil support. But I have an iPad, so it’s not necessary. This phone has a lot of things I want that are not on my 12 Pro: long battery life (which is not guaranteed to go up from here, if we look at the drop from the 11 to the 12), doesn’t seem to overheat, brighter visibility, benchmarks on par with my M1 Macbook air (so down the road, its gonna get cracked and I’m sure someone will figure out how to smoothly run gamecube games on there), a physical camera button so I don’t have to fumble around with the software buttons when I’m walking my dog, action button for voice memos to record melodies, and a stronger telephoto camera to photograph animals that don’t want to be anywhere near my overenthusiastic dog

@@StetsonDoggettthanks Stetson. Taking a trip down memory lane, I think what may have triggered this could have been after I unlocked the phone and added a few ESIMs and I tried switching around the ESIMs it inadvertently kicked the Boost eSIM onto a different IMEI (since the iPhone has two IMEIs for dual eSIM). Pure speculation of course. I asked support to escalate it to supervisor but they insisted nothing could be done. I then wanted to give up and at least get a refund for this month and cancel but they couldn't do that either. Looks like cc chargeback is my only option.

That is no longer in the picture. Boost mobile became a mayor network using their own towers. While still using Tmobile and AT&T when ever those towers are not available it's called roaming
@StetsonDoggett3 ай бұрын
When you sign up for Boost Mobile, you get one of two options. 1) You get activated on the native Boost Mobile network. Your phone will default to using the Boost Mobile network for coverage. In areas with no coverage, you will roam on either AT&T or T-Mobile. This is the same as with the network switching on Boost Infinite. 2) You get activated on either the AT&T or T-Mobile network directly. In this case, your phone will only use either AT&T or T-Mobile for coverage, the same as if you signed up for an AT&T or T-Mobile MVNO.

It still works. We were in Alaska when the change happened and instead of being on Dish towers like it was at home, we were on ATT towers. Around home, if I get out of Dish tower coverage, the phone usually gets a TMO tower. It seems it's still working.

Some people like to use international eSIMs/local SIMs but occasionally need native roaming for, e.g., receiving 2FA codes from banks, and don't want to pay a significant fee for a roaming package just for this purpose. Honestly, I'm finding this promotion very hard to justify making use of. Most Android phones are available for significantly lower prices than what Boost offers (e.g., the Samsung Galaxy A25 for $300 through them vs. $225 on Amazon with double the storage), and Boost's plan isn't that great (no hotspot), so to me it's more worth it to buy a phone elsewhere and buy an annual plan from US Mobile.
@buffuniballer3 ай бұрын
Just a thought, I think you can add hotspot for $10/month. So, you pay $300 for the phone and $10/month for the hotspot add on for a total of $420 (nice) not counting taxes and fees which vary based on location. If you pay $225 for the phone and get a $25/month plan that includes the hotspot you need, your total is about $100 more at $525. The more the plan costs that includes the hotspot and data you need, the more you would pay. You can add the hotspot to Boost if that's the only thing you are missing. But, if other options work better, then by all means. Of course, I'm assuming the phones are the same in each example. If you can get a more powerful or more storage for less, that may work better for you. I hope you find a solution that fits your use case.
@gparyani3 ай бұрын

@buffuniballer3 ай бұрын
@@gparyani Yes, I was clear that my example was if both were the same price, if someone can get more storage for less money, and they need that storage, that option may work better for them. I did it simply because I was probably going to buy an iPhone 16 Pro. I purchased my last two phones from Apple direct, so I'm already paying $1100 to $1200 (For my wife's 15 Pro Max last year) For me, my next year of service is essentially free. Well, sales tax. I have someone ready to buy my 15 Pro for $800. I paid $1100 for my 16 Pro 256GB. So, when I sell my phone, basically, my next year of service is for the cost of the sales tax on the phone, plus, about $1.70/month in taxes and fees based on how much my wife's taxes and fees are. So for me, it's a nearly free upgrade. I purchased the phone outright, and it's already unlocked. About 15 minutes to port my Mint number and about 4 hours to get the phone unlocked. Anyway, it's a deal that works for some, but of course, not for all. It worked for me because I was going to upgrade anyway meaning $300 of service and selling my phone to a friend for $800 made for an attractive deal. I didn't need hotspot because my work line includes that. I also have a Visible+ line and that also includes hotspot. I collect phones and phone plans :)
