Yeah. You should really think about AT LEAST welding some rod to the edge of the door jam for those latches to grab onto. The ends are curved so they kind of wrap around the u-bolt. You were pushing on it and it was giving a lot. Also, it’s not the wind getting under the window that you have to worry about it. When planes fly it’s not because of the wind that goes under the wing but because of the wind that goes over the wing. A simple science experiment is to take a sheet of paper and blow over it, and the paper will pull up words. You need to have that latch a lot more solid because it’s not the wind that’s going to get under the window but it’s going to be the negative pressure that is pulling out on the window as you go down the track.

At $1500 Bucks for the Carbon Fiber doors. I would bet damn good money, they are real Carbon Fiber Shells! For 13 years, I used to build aircraft Air ducts and other parts, used on aircraft like Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, and Cessna!

For the window clamps, maybe fold a small taco of metal around the latch spot on the factory A pillar to extra support & a ridge for it to hook into. Past that the repair/upgrade looks pretty good!

that window clamp needs a bead of weld right where it grabs, that WILL pull off at 150+. That's why they provided the metal hooks. Heck, even with a bead it might be an issue if the clamp does not suck the window in enough.
@joshcoffman14
@joshcoffman14 Жыл бұрын
On the window clamps I would weld a piece of round stock to the area where you are using the cars structure to let the latch grab at so the curve on the latch will wrap around the welded round stock and not slip off the smooth surface. Seems like when you pushed on the window it had to much movement, but the door looks good considering it's 180 mph departure. good luck

I do a lot with jet boats commercially. Be careful with the bucket. It’ll rip cables and if you are going to fast and slam it down you’ll nose dive, as you clearly saw. You guys can also get pneumatic actuated pistons to move the bucket, they’ll do crazy work and they’re programmable, meaning you can can a real two step and launch!

Side bets on the windows still being sucked out. The wind dont travel how you are thinking. That will build a low pressure and suck them right off. I would atleast weld something there for them to hook to. The window will bow enough for it to suck the lock passed the door frame.

Good Jon Wyatt. I work with carbon fiber and 3m composites everyday. If you prepped well enough, that door will never break on those repairs again. It will always break somewhere else. Also that panel bond is serious shit. Do not worry about the door coming apart, worry about the glass staying in and the hinge mounting location.

I's suggest running a couple of beads on the door frame edge, so the catch has something positive to catch on if it 'walks' from door and body flexing during the run. Just takes a couple of minutes, including paint touch-up, to make sure it's secure.

Just trim some aluminum foil speed tape and go around the front edge of the door if you're worried about it. That stuff is good for 500mph+ and you can get it in black so it would barely be noticeable. For the weekend just use some HVAC aluminum tape from Home Depot. When you end up getting another door go around the front edge with 3M clear bra tape 2" wide, it applies just like any other clear bra and is a permanent install.

It may feel more comfortable if you throw another linkage in line to the reverse lever on the jet boat. Lever back for reverse, front for go time is more natural. I don't know how far you want to go with it but you could also get a setup where there is friction and click locations to feel where you are on the throw.

You could add a flap (solid steel welded to a hinge) behind the brake lever that once you start going forward it falls down behind the lever stopping it from going too far backwards unless its lifted up, that way you still have some brake but not enough to sink the boat and you could slam the lever hard in emergencies but again not sink it.

You got this man, I look forward to you getting your truck the F**k out on the track man. and Pushing it to the max! there are major improvements left there! Some of the "white spots" can be fixed if you dremel down into it a little or use an Exacto knife to poke the outer surface and put more resin in it, you can thin it with a small amount of acetone. use a heat gun to help it flow into the voids! I built Aircraft Air Ducts and had a bit of experience in that (13 yrs.). I used to "Slosh" the parts with an external coat of resin to seal the outside of the air ducts before they were cooked in an oven and finished for use!.
