Amazing review, love the break down of positives, negatives and the in between. It's great that you really took your time with the review; the resulting quality, with what you uncovered, is objectively evident. Kudos to the manufacturer for the quick turn around, and for the other improvements made in the revised edition. My only issue here is that it did give me that feeling when you watch all the amazing engineering and start to think of your Sprints as "entry level". ;)

I don’t think anyone’s going to be slower using sprints just because of the pedals.

I'd say your review videos have overtaken Barry now, still lots of detail but you don't hang around too long on each part. Not sure on these pedals, I hear what your saying regarding the response to the bent pin, but at that price you'd think someone would have tried to test to failure before releasing...

My understanding (as an owner, I asked) is that the pedals, in addition to the in-the-shop testing, have been in use by dozens of people for months. Intensive use. Nobody found what Will did, which requires pushing very hard on the clutch. It is unlikely that you are to encounter the problem in normal operation. Think of it this way, they were almost indestructible before, they are fully indestructible now :) If you do find the problem, and you are a current owner, I know you get it sorted out.

@@LuisBlando I understand your point, but that is not a way to test a product. Well, it's a start... But what you should be doing is trying to break it, use it in weird and wonderful ways, and just generally find the weak points. I'm from a software background and it's amazing how software works perfectly when you click all the buttons as designed, but as soon as you start using in anger and 'trying to break it', faults will show up. If anything for me, this just shows it's a wait and see product... Give it a year and all the glitches will be fixed... Because as great as Will is, he hasn't found all the issues in two weeks :)

I have to agree regarding Barry, although I think Will would probably think both have same value to the community, just a different delivery. I have followed Barry for a long time but since it came to light he now charges fees on top of receiving the kit for free to do his reviews I have to question whether or not I could take what he says as a true unbiased impartial viewpoint.
@boostedmedia

As Lee stated above, it's not possible for any reviewer to cover every possible thing that could go wrong with a product over time despite our best efforts, and while we do our best to conduct as much ongoing testing a possible by using equipment on our rig long term, there will always be things that get missed and thats why I always say that the best value in any review video comes from real world customers sharing their ongoing experiences in the comments section. When I first started making sim racing content two and a half years ago now, the first thing I did was have a look at what others were doing within the space and determine how I could add my own unique value to the community. Every time I make a review or instructional video I ask myself "How is this adding value for my viewers", and I routinely refer my audience to other content creators videos where I think they add additional value. You would have seen me say in many wheels reviews for example "Go watch Sim Racing Garage's review linked in the description if you want to see inside", and although I will repeat the process myself in most cases, I generally wont include it in the video unless I have something specific to add which I believe hasn't already been mentioned elsewhere. While I of course do greatly appreciate the sentiment behind Lee's original comment, I don't see any other content creator as competition. We are all on the same team and I don't believe our existence is detrimental to each other or dilutes the viewership at all. Most people watching my review videos also watch Barry's and vice versa, which is exactly the way it should be. Any reviewer's opinion is just that, an opinion, and viewers should always seek out multiple opinions before making a decision on a product. Finally, regarding Big D's point. I was surprised to learn Barry now charges production fees for producing his videos, to the extent that I personally verified this with multiple manufacturers as I initially didn't believe it to be the case. It's of course none of my business how Barry chooses to conduct his channel, however KZbin and the FTC have clear rules in place when it comes to the disclosure of paid or "sponsored" content.

Another geart video Mate, thanks! The USA dollars prices makes them slightly more expensive than the Heusinkveld pedals and frankly more closely to my price range. I was wondering about comparative lap times between these pedals and all the others that you have reviewed. It would be helpful if there was one place (video) that lap times were viewable together. Thinking back to my racing days, comfortable did not always means faster. Just my opinion! But thanks again, your videos are ALWAYS appreciated!

They do, but it isnt a big company making the pedals. Its two brothers, one does the machining and the other is the mind behind the pedals themselves. They do everything they can, and honestly the way they approach the buisness is refreshing.

Excellent review Will. I learned a few things and I happen to have these ones! Lawrence has been excellent, and has helped me with setup, and more. The washers are smart cause they provide fiber tuning granularity. Time will tell on how they hold up, but everything appears to be solid and high quality, as you point out. Two minor (very minor) nitpicks: 1. The install hole on the throttle on the left side is partially obstructed by the potentiometer. That restricts the range of installation for that screw specifically a little bit. I was able work around it (installed on a simlab baseplate/heel plate). 2, as I was initially testing the “all the way soft” range for the brake, I barely screwed in the knob and then went and abused the brake pedal, so washers flying everywhere. Put them all back, and this time I turned the knob at least a few turns :) As I said, minor stuff. Great pedals so far, and they’ve made trail braking and controlled throttling possible for me.

@@boostedmedia it was clearly me not turning the know at least a couple of turns! In normal usage nobody would ever not turn the knob, obviously, but I was trying to see how “light” I could get it... :-) So, user error I’d say...

Nice review ! These pedals really looks beautiful. I was looking my options to get hydraulic pedals, and you just added one to the list 😅 Heusinkveld Ultimate, Simtag Tilton, Sim Coaches P1, ... What pedal pair would you advise for a formula oriented sim rig ? (no clutch needed)
@zainhaider8362
@zainhaider8362 3 жыл бұрын
It would be worth having a more scientific session for all gear which is reviewed on the channel where you check the raw performance. For example, a fixed sim (one with the most fan base), a fixed car and a fixed track and conditions and fixed number of laps. Then you can do best lap times, consistency over the 10 laps etc. You can put this on a TopGear-type leader board. In reality whilst this pedal set is very expensive I don't think it will improve lap time which let's face it anyone who buys this pedal set is interested in. When the owner said he would replace parts for existing owners I assume he means they will replace the entire brake pedal. Paying that much money I won't want to start opening up the pedals.
@boostedmedia
@boostedmedia 3 жыл бұрын
As I said in the video I think at this price point it’s for the most part down to subjective differences. I’ve put a lot of thought in to a leaderboard type setup snd think it’s a good idea. The problem right now is I’m often changing other hardware too so it wouldn’t always be an even playing field. Once we move into a larger studio where I can have a permanent test rig set up I do want to do this though.

@Zain Haider The problem with doing a 'leaderboard' is people will take it as gospel but in order to really get the most out of gear you need to use said gear _exclusively_ and spend *A LOT* longer then 10 laps with it.

DOT5 brake fluid also had a much higher boiling temp as well so you don’t get brake fade, not like you’ve got any actual massive brake temps to deal with in this case though 😝

Great video! Those are one sexy set of Pedals, Man you are making it harder for me to decide what to purchase, Load Cell or Hydraulic Pedals. All the Hydraulic pedals you are reviewing lately are making me push towards Hydraulics. How close is the feeling of Hydraulic brake pedal to a real car, I'm a heel and toe driver when it comes to V8 supercars and the MX5 in I-racing and prefer a stiffer brake to allow for more consistent braking and the other thing is I don't have a cockpit, I currently have my modified G25s bolted on some wood (snow ski design) and butted up against the wall

@Boosted Media I am so confused which pedals to go to now with all the options on the market. I went from Fanatec CSP V2 to Heusinkveld Sprints and love my Sprints, but I still think I miss something in terms of consistency of brake-feel? I also don't like the clutch too much. I know sim-clutches will never feel right but somehow I even think Fanatecs Clutch is better, feels more like in a real car than the Sprints. The Brake and Acc are far better surely, but I still think Ultimates would be better... but then for the same price there are much more choices including Meca, OBP, SimWorx etc... So if you were to recommend of the whole current market the best load-cell and the best hydraulics pedals, which ones would it be, if money doesn't matter, and which in both categories would it be if the limit would be... lets say for "HE Ultimate Money" Would even like a video, doesn't have to be as in depth as Barrys or your more recent videos about the hardware, just proper consumer advice on both hydraulic and loadcell fronts and in different price categories. Keep up the good work, I started out thinking Barry war the only good reviewer but you really upped your game with your passionate reviews about great simgear and your honest responses to hardware with problems, so people really get to know which gear is proper quality and which isn't!

I'm wondering between these and the ultimates, I looking for better feel in the brake to modulate and improve on trailbraking. I know you've used both and was wondering your thoughts in the differance in feel and consistancy when using these two pedals
@boostedmedia
@boostedmedia 3 жыл бұрын
I personally prefer hydraulics over the ultimates for trail braking as I feel the pressure point is a little more defined and this easier to modulate around. But there will be plenty of people who disagree, including my VRS coach. Lol. Honestly once you get up into this level of high end my opinion is it boils down to subjective personal preferences.

19:53 honestly, i dont see the advantage of using actual brake fluid here. be it dot5 or dot3. we're not generating heat from braking so i would assume using mineral oil is safer overall, especially in case of a leakage.

Forgive my ignorance here. When companies send you products to "review" sell on the strength of your viewer's. What do you then do with the gear?
@boostedmedia
@boostedmedia 3 жыл бұрын
It depends. Usually I hold on to it for extended testing and so I can cover any updates, but sometimes it gets sent back snd sometimes once I’m done with it I donate it. For example Emily Jones has my HE Ultimates now and I recently donated an entire rig to someone who was forced to sell theirs after a divorce recently.

Another comment purely based on price point... For this market segment, interesting they chose not to engineer a solution for a regressive feel to the clutch mechanism. I like to feel the "bite point" or simulation of a clutch pressure plate.
@boostedmedia
@boostedmedia 3 жыл бұрын
Yep some people are going to want that at the price point for sure. This was mentioned in the review. Personally I don't feel it adds anything to the driving experience but that's just my subjective opinion. My HE Ultimates had it and I didn't miss it at all when I moved to Hydros.
