It is not clear to me what your technique is, but you should be stalling the converter and foot braking to get a harder launch. As a general rule shorter back tires also help a little

Less motor work, street tires, my rc 99 ran 1.6 60’ times and 8.7. The 3.55 gears are what you need, then drop a Procharger for the ultimate fun Dakota!

There's nothing wrong with the 5.9, you just have a basic build. The are people making big power with the 5.9. A small stall converter and 125 nitrous shot would REALLY make a difference in your case. The 5.9 can compete. Although with what you have it's unfair somewhat to compare your present 5.9 with what your friends have. Anyway good video.

Great question. I’ve tried it that way also and it doesn’t seem to like it on the stock converter and this intake manifold. It bogs down like crazy. It worked well doing that on the kegger but on this m1 it falls on its face

That stock 46re is what was hurting you. The stock gears in them are really tall unless you get one out of a 4x4 ram. And even then stock is not great. Definitely could have gotten that tuck deep in the 8s though. But That hellcat swap with the 8HP90 is gonna smash💪

these older 5.9’s are a wet dog in the bottom end rpm but come to life around 3800rpm on up. dial back the base timing a smidge to bump up the low end rpm take off. or maybe install a msd box with launch control set to 3k rpms and she’ll fly

That thing needs a gear and converter. You wouldn't believe how much different it would be. Nice truck. It's got low 8's in it. Doesn't need power necessarily. Just need to optimize.

Swapping your Dakota it’s going cost u a lot of money and work brother. U would have to change your suspension and upgrades a lot of parts.. But I know u can do it. I have a 410 stroke I’m working on the twins next. Should make over 8++.

I just always bring it cause sometimes the techs like to make up their own rules. I own that jacket cause one day they wouldn’t let me race without it and they charged me a premium of $80 for it so now I always throw it in no matter what 🤦♂️

It’s not the engine that’s at fault here it is the transmission. If you put a helcat behind it I think it would do disappointing numbers (for a hellcat)

your gearing seems too high, all r/t,s had 3.92 gears, mine dont wind, its just there an fast..my streeet 73 duster ran 8.50,s to 8.70,s maybe in heat at 4900,an 1.87 or to 1.90 60 foot,an premium,with gasket matchet big 2.02 heads iron..3.55 gear, driven everywhere, but dusters are light....
