Glad someone finally did this. I was more interested in the lower IAT claims. The power gained is nice. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze.

Hey there, a really great comparison test. We’re going to build a Pontiac with the torque my legit question is why such low horsepower with 13 pounds of boost and a big block Chevy? I’m just curious as to your thoughts on that. Peace out
@BoostForBreakfast14 күн бұрын
@@GMVracing Thanks for watching. The engine was assembled over a decade ago - basically just a refreshed 402 with a mild cam; the TorqStorm is a recent addition. If the engine combo was being built for this set-up, it would be a lot different. This is more along the lines of what realistic numbers might be for someone with an older, mild sbc/bbc set-up that is looking to add boost

I'm shocked that at 14 PSI, that thing isn't making 500-600hp at the wheels... what a odd engine build for boost. (Isn't 15 psi essentially doubling the engine output)
@BoostForBreakfast17 күн бұрын
@@nasty3145 have to take into account the small cam, low compression, untouched heads, and that its going thru an unlocked automatic - along with elevation. 14psig up here is around 11-12psi at sea level. Also, it is close to doubling the hp of this engine. Many people are humbled to see what their n/a engines ACTUALLY make at elevation. We've had many "should make 500-600hp" n/a engine setups make significantly less - check out our test of GM's "1000hp" zz632 We'll be doing another set of tests with a little better cam and a water/meth kit. Ideally we'd want around 11:1-11.5:1 comp on a setup like with a much different cam and head set-up. But this is more realistic of adding on a kit to an older setup at our elevation. Keep an eye out for more testing! We really like the TorqStorm s/c's

to get that that thing would have to have the RPM cam/ RPM heads and build more more power with lower compression and more boost with a smaller bpulley. but it isnt bad for a baby big block with small iron heads and a cam thats smaller than id put in a 302 ford street car

Awesome video! Very helpful information. I'm in Colorado so I know all about the DA Monster 😂. Those are respectable numbers, to the wheels, at elevation with that build. I have a Torqstorm on my 77' D100 360. I was wondering how much if any restriction my intake tube and filter were causing. Now I know! One question I have is what size exhaust piping and what type of mufflers? I'm running 2.5" pipe off the headers into chambered mufflers into 2.25 tail pipes. I the know mufflers and tail piping are creating a restriction and back pressure. I'll be going to 3" pipe and bullets in the future to maximize air flow. @BoostForBreakfast

15 psi is a ballpark....and yes..ballpark says that if you add 15psi boost you double the NA HP.. You also have to take in this is dyno at the wheels and not an engine dyno. The ballpark is for engine dyno.

Dose the engine utilize 2 turbocharges ?
@BoostForBreakfast18 сағат бұрын
@@williamranson6075 unfortunately, this engine has no turbochargers. It has a Torqstorm centrifugal supercharger
@finnroen233417 күн бұрын
14.3 psi boost is 1.97 MAP. 462 hp / 1.97 MAP = 234.5 hp from the theoretical NA engine. Is that not really low from a 402 CID engine? 75 mm compressorinducer is WAY to small? 426 hp at 12.6 psi boost =>231.1 hp.
@KingJT8016 күн бұрын
that kit is capable of 700 at the wheels. seen that on an LS swap wit 538 at the wheels in a LS swap fairmont with the right gears and converter. there's videos of that on someone else's channel this dyno is about right for a smallest of the MARK IV big blocks with small stock iron heads
@BoostForBreakfast16 күн бұрын
@@KingJT80 yes, it definately depends on the set-up, cam, compression, etc. We see well over 500whp on LS applications when pullied to compensate for elevation.

Somethings wrong that engine should make more with that much boost.

I believe we're on par with what it should make.... its 50+yr old iron with a small cam - not an LS3 or a Coyote.

@ I didn’t know elevation when I made this comment. Old iron doesn’t matter they can make just as much or more then an ls.

For the cost of the supercharger could of built that same engine N/A to make way more power easily

@@Thumper68 sub $4k s/c - hard to beat. We see many people think their small blocks or big blocks will make xxx hp 'because internet', but then the dyno really humbles them. Its unfortunate, but a reality many people struggle to grasp. Its not uncommon for us to see people with "500-600hp" big blocks make in the mid-high 300's/low 400's. Its definately helps having a dyno to see what actually does what, especially at our elevation/kpa (84-87kpa, vs 98-102kpa at sea level). Check out our test of gm's '1000hp' zz632 thru a manual trans on 112 oct... welcome to real world numbers!

@ I didn’t realize y’all were a mile high but I’d still be disappointed with those numbers with 14 psi. Id personally rather spend the money to have a better n/a engine first then get that 14 psi later making it much more effective. What’s the parasitic loss?
@BoostForBreakfast16 күн бұрын
@@Thumper68 we'll be testing this vehicle again with a different cam, pulley, and w/m set-up soon. Ideally, we'd want this engine around 11.0:1 static comp with a much different cam profile... then add the s/c. Parasitic loss would just be a guess at this point as many variables play into that
