That imitation of Bob Wills at 10 seconds .....made me feel great ...... like everything in the world is just as it should be! ... love to here Bob Wills 'jiving' with the Texas Playboys and nobody comes even close to this guy sounding just like Bob Wills.

Thanks for posting Greg. Great tune and very well done. I've got some fabric that matches your shirt waiting for my wife, a professional quilter, to do something with in her spare time (ha ha).

So my question, why is nowbody current be alive able, to play this song here so nice with a fullarrange at least like this here in the tube? Damn. Did i must first learn Padelsteel or what. The modern padelsteelers with play so uniqe Classics die out or whats wrong? Gruss

The tuning is B minor 7th, often incorrectly called D6th. I do not know how this tune could be played well, with out a bunch of minor 7th's. Herb Remington (Bob Will's steel player) used an F# minor 7th tuning, often incorrectly called "A6th". From bottom to top: F# A C# E F# A C# E as one of the necks on his Fender multi neck steel guitar. He later did this on his Fender D-10 pedal steel guitar using this tuning on one of the necks. He also used this tuning on "Remington Ride" which he wrote. Interestingly, RR can be played easier using A minor 7th (C6th) tuning, But Herb literally HATED that tuning because it was too "Country". Sadly, many "Western Swing" steel players felt the same and many still do. It was not until the "Nashville Sound" emerged in the 60's; that MOST dropped the F# minor (A6th) tuning and went totally to A minor 7th (C6th). in fact, unless you order it differently, ALL PSG manufacturers tune one of the necks to A minor 7th when it is built. It is a standard as it can be. And Buddy Emmons' favorite by the way! For whatever it's worth.

Herb Remington (not only Bob Wills' steel player, but my teacher) wrote this tune in Sol Hoʻopiʻi's C#m7 tuning, a major second below the Bm7/E6 tuning used by Greg Booth in this video. The tuning is correctly called both Bm7 and E6. F# A C# E F# A C# E is correctly called both A6 and F#m7, but is much more commonly called A6 in the steel guitar world. I've been playing it since Herb first showed it to me in 1975.

Listen to the Bob Wills original recordings. Wills sings and vocalizes all over it.

It’s a Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys hit song from 1950. I’d venture this might top mine for whiteness…lol! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIbVmZqYZpiZqpY

Im just now seeing this. Not sure if your comment was directed to me or the other commenter, but no offense was intended. That sort of remark is usually a comment about the squareness and stiffness of southern white music and not meant to imply some kind of exclusivity. On the contrary, the wonderful thing about music in general is how it brings people together from diverse backgrounds who share the love and appreciation of the genre. Peace my friend.
