Thank you for what is the most thorough presentation of the Sony ECM-W3 that I could find. Great how you went into all the details - showing and explaining everything. Have you used the W3 for a longer period and if yes, how does it hold up? Do you know what its reasonable (realistic) battery run-time can be expected? Relja

The S1 sounds decent, way better than the previous Sony hotshoe mics. Depending on price, that may be a viable option. The lav mics sound functional, but not great. I’m 100 with you that the low-cut takes out WAY too much low end.

Unfortunately, the cameras you have don't utilize the full power of that microphone. The advantage of these Sony microphones is that you can record voice digitally using Sony's proprietary multimedia shoe, but neither the A6400 nor the ZV-1 support this - they both record analog only.

I'm glad I found this video. I'm finding with the twin mic version, when you have both mics active (i.e two people) it will not clip at 0 attenuation (Its like auto volume). However when only using one mic I need to set -10 attenuation (at least) to avoid clipping. At least I know I don't have a faulty unit now.

At 16:31 why continuous low hiss sound when using ECM S1 I am hearing in my Headphones. Brilliant mid-range good for voice.

Is this good for run and gun shoots? Does it automatically turn on the microphone when you turn on the Sony camera? Or do you have to wait and pair it all the time? I want to get this one but I’m afraid to miss Vlog shots if I need to wait for it to pair compared to a normal shotgun mic. Would love an answer since I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks mate.

I have the same exact question! The new DJI mic 2 has the feature we’re looking for, but it has the 3.5 that needs to be plugged in.

You have to turn them on separately buy they pair quickly. Used them for the first time today and the sound really good.

They have a 6 hour record time. I’m assuming that’s the same whether you’re recording or not.
