How do you never pop your p's while talking into these things in any of videos without pop filters? I still have a ton of pops with 2 filters.

In reference to their sound quality and audio specifications, the Road Headphone is not as good as the Audio-Technica M 50x Headphones.

This was very helpful. Thank you. I think I'm going to buy this mic. I really love the sound of it. It sounds very natural and "unhyped." I'm looking to use it for singing. I have a very sibilant voice, so I don't need a mic with added presence.

Windscreens are not pop filters, and are not designed to stop plosives. They do two different things.

I have 3! I use them as Tom mics and a mono over head on drums They have a very natural sound , it almost sounds boring in a good way. I often find myself preferring this mic over a lot of others

I know this is an old video, but hopefully I can get some valuable advice. Being a total newbie, I am afraid I will mess up gain when setting it up on the mic, so I was considering getting the Ride N1 5th generation and use it as USB, with the 32-bit floatt option, to have more room for error on that part, and getting an audio interface to use it as XLR later on. Now, for about the same price, I can get the AT-2020 XLR, with an audio interface, but I believe there is no going back if I mess up the gain, right? I'm torn, all advice is appreciated. (As a side note, I considered starting off with the AT2020USB-X, originally). Thank you so much in advance!

This Pure Tube is one of the better microphones when it comes to neutrality, incredible. Not sure if this will suit my voice, but this is a magnificent microphone. I am thinking on buying the 540, however when comparing it with the Pure Tube it does not sound very good.

Took me listening to this video on several different speaker systems before I really nailed down the biggest difference. The 540 has a more detailed and defined low end, where the 103 gets a bit mushy and muddy in comparison. In isolation, I would probably never notice or consider the 103 to have muddy low end, but specifically in my car speakers (a better than average system) I noticed there was a blurriness to the 103 in the lows that became crystal clear with the 540. Other than that, they were extremely similar, and that one difference took me a long time to really pinpoint. You need a system with good low frequency reproduction to tell the difference.

Ridiculously useful to me a new Reaper user. Am used to using Audacity and it has a macro that preps for peak and RMS. Is there such a macro in Reaper or is it just another chain? Ps yes I know about the newer Reaper online course. It's awesome, helped me set up my Reaper to VO-friendly preferences so quickly and shortened my learning curve hugely. Haven't gotten through all of it, will do soon!

Hey Mike! Thanks for the recommendation! I'm actually curious if this fan is still out there somewhere? I tried to find it on Amazon but it doesn't seem to be there. I have a Studiobricks and it gets miserable with the summer, especially with character work. If you can tell me where to get it, I'll look into it!

So you'd pick the Audio Technica AT4040 over a Rode NT1 or NT1A for recording vocals? And where would you place the Rode NT1 series amongst this list? Like, in what place exactly? Yes, I would choose the Audio-Technica AT4040 over the RØDE NT1 or NT1A for recording vocals due to its versatile performance, excellent build quality, and well-rounded sound characteristics. However, the RØDE NT1 and NT1A are also highly capable microphones and have their own strengths. ### Placing the RØDE NT1 Series on the List Given the microphones listed and considering factors like sound quality, versatility, build quality, and value, here’s a ranked list with the RØDE NT1 and NT1A positioned among them: 1. **Audio-Technica AT4040** 2. **RØDE NT1** 3. **AKG C214** 4. **Lewitt LCT 440 PURE** 5. **Aston Origin** 6. **sE Electronics sE2200** 7. **Warm Audio WA-47jr** 8. **Audio-Technica AT2035** 9. **RØDE NT1A** 10. **AKG P220** 11. **Audio-Technica AT2020** 12. **Blue Yeti Pro** ### Justification for the Ranking **1. Audio-Technica AT4040:** - Superior sound quality with a detailed and natural sound. - Versatility and high SPL handling make it ideal for a variety of recording situations. **2. RØDE NT1:** - Extremely low self-noise (one of the quietest microphones available). - Detailed and clear sound, making it excellent for vocals. - Slightly more neutral and natural sound compared to the NT1A. **3. AKG C214:** - High-quality build and sound inspired by the legendary C414. - Versatile with high SPL handling and switchable filters. **4. Lewitt LCT 440 PURE:** - Transparent and detailed sound. - Low self-noise and robust build quality. **5. Aston Origin:** - Natural and transparent sound. - Unique design and solid construction. **6. sE Electronics sE2200:** - Classic sound with modern reliability. - Versatile with built-in filters and pad. **7. Warm Audio WA-47jr:** - Inspired by the U47, providing a vintage tonal character. - Multiple polar patterns for flexibility. **8. Audio-Technica AT2035:** - Great value with good sound quality and features like high-pass filter and pad. - Suitable for a range of recording tasks. **9. RØDE NT1A:** - Bright and detailed sound with a pronounced high-frequency boost. - Very low self-noise, but the brightness may not suit all vocalists. **10. AKG P220:** - Solid performance for the price. - High SPL handling and switchable filters. **11. Audio-Technica AT2020:** - Affordable and good entry-level condenser. - Decent performance but lacks some of the features and sound quality of higher-ranked mics. **12. Blue Yeti Pro:** - USB and XLR outputs for flexibility. - Multi-pattern design, but sound quality is not as high as the others listed for studio vocals. ### Summary The RØDE NT1 is positioned higher than the NT1A because of its more neutral sound and extremely low self-noise, making it very suitable for vocals and critical recordings. The NT1A is slightly lower due to its brighter sound, which may not suit every vocalist. The Audio-Technica AT4040 remains at the top for its overall balance of features, sound quality, and versatility.

I bought one AT2020 on Ali express, and it sounded bad. Then I bought another one from a trustable seller in my country and this one sounded good. The "fake" one has a red wire that connects to the capsule, the good one has black wire. The bag that comes with the mic is also inferior in quality.

theres no way you called the 7506 and the m50x "on-ear" headphones. technically they are "over-ear" construction. maybe they are build to small for your head/ear that make them subjectively bad for you,

I bought that Austrian Audio in 2022 with great expectations but only got a disappointment. Almost never used in any situation, live or whatever else, the problem is that it's not particularly outstanding about anything and also lacks of a special personality. I haven't sold it yet only because probably in the future it will be regarded as a "pet shop curio" for its unique visual design and will become valuable (also because very few people bought it).

Hi @BoothJunkie thanks for this video, it's so helpful! I wanted to ask whether it's possible to record initially in 'takes' setup, rectifying mistakes using the 'click and go' method, then switch to 'tape' setup so go back an edit the same project?

As per specs, the AT2035's sensitivity (-33 dBV) is only 1 dB less than that of the Rode NT1 Signature Series (NT1 SS) at -32 dBV, yet every reviewer says that NT1 SS should only be used in a studio environment (i.e., with no sound sources other than the ones to be recorded, + sound deadening). I'm planning to buy a mic for my daily video calls and my office is obviously not a studio: there's some curtains that reduce some reflections & lots of stuff lying around that also helps. Is an NT1 SS out of the question? Other mics I'm considering are the AT2035, the Lewitt LCT 440 Pro (-31.2 dBV, even more sensitive than the NT1 SS) and the Sennheiser Mk4 (-32 dBV). Would putting an isolation foam ball (like the Kaotica, but cheaper) help kill/reduce extraneous sounds (like the ceiling fan, video light fan and/or AC)? Currently using a Sennheiser E614 condenser at -50 dBV with my Audient EVO 4 interface.
