Fun fact, the reason the Galapagos islands are called that WAS because of the giant land tortoises that live there - the spanish basically used the islands as food stores, taking the easily captured tortoises as food with them to the boats. Galapagos indeed means tortoise, that's why the islands were named that, but now we call the species of tortoise that live there as galapagos turtles - literally tortoise turtles. :D
