Just Googled it. Death row has sold 150 million records worldwide. TDE has done 10 million. Sure TDE has had a longer run but culturally Deathrow has had a bigger impact. You are more likely to see a 20 year old wearing Death row merch before you see them with TDE merch or a Kendrick Lamar t shirt

Not very comparable, Death Row never had to deal with the streaming & blog era. You can sell 10 records but it does not necessarily mean that only 10 people heard it. Off of 10 records you can have 100 plays, or thousands, or you could have played it 0 times. If we were to count 8-12 plays of a streaming album as a record sale than TDE would be crazy high, might not pass Death Row but it would be closer. I believe the streaming services all count there album sales at a crazy high play. For example; for 10 tracks on 1 album you would need to play all of those tracks a combined amount of 1500 times before Spotify counts that as an album sale. If you take GKMC’s total streams and actually count 1 play of a song off of that album as a sale, GKMC would have sold upwards of a billion album sales.

I mean ZERO disrespect to the many very talented TDE Artists, because they are indeed very talented! However, I think TDE gets so much credit primarily because of SZA and Kendrick. And More so Kendrick because they handled SZA horrifically. If Kendrick Lamar was not on TDE, many of the other rappers would not be as successful as they are, and they still aren’t as successful as they deserve to be. I can’t help but wonder if they focused on their money maker primarily, and neglected everyone else. SZA blew all the way up to Whitney Houston type levels once Kendrick was no longer on TDE. Im not saying the artists never had personal struggles that hindered things. But their output rates were unheard of. SZA was spazzing out on Twitter, and Reason was being attacked by TDE President, Moose live on stream!

Take the top 5 artist from TDE (Kendrick, Sza, School Boy Q, Ab Soul, Jay Rock) and compare them to the top 5 Death Row artist (Snoop, Dr. Dre, Tupac, Dogg Pound, Lady of Rage) for sales and cultural impact, it's not even close. 4 out of the 5 death row artist have platinum albums, not just singles....albums. 2Pac has a diamond selling album on Death Row and Snoop was at his prime popularity wise and sold 4 million on Doggy style alone.

I don’t like the way TDE appears to treat their artists. And blames the fans on twitter when sales aren’t what they wanted. Top Dawg and Punch say crazy stuff to fans at times, I don’t like HOW Top Handled GQ magazine after they put Kendrick on the Cover. I also don’t like how that Toronto Artist had to sue Top for his money back for a Kendrick feature he paid for, Kendrick recorded it, but Top wouldn’t release it or return the money because “he felt disrespected.” He had to print a letter to Kendrick in a Canada newspaper. And Sue him. Top didn’t show up in court, which is admitting defeat, and guy won.

There has definitely been controversy, not deadly violence with firearms. TDE has been very criticized for how they have treated SZA and Reason especially! And for now allowing artists to consistently drop music and stay relevant. Ab-Soul tried to unalive himself by jumping off of a building, a car broke his fall I believe. Most people believe the true reason Kendrick didn’t release music for 5 years was that he was in contract re-negotiations after winning his Pulitzer, and eventually wanted to leave the label.

Pac only got bigger than he was due to the publicity stunt he pulled on Biggie knowing damn well he didnt have anything to do with him being setup which in fact was dry snitching. His career was average lyke damn near every other rapper until his 4th album All Eyes On Me came out with the hype surrounding it. TDE's run is way better than Death Row's was, ppl tend to get caught up in the moment.
