Awesome haul! I believe the bootlegs are Bela branded which are notorious about their inconsistent quality I've had some luck removing the paint from some of these with isopropyl alcohol if that's something you intend, very weird sets over all but a green huna would be a pretty cool piece

Aha! Thank you, I wouldn't have known where to start researching! I'll try with some white spirit once I get some, will upgrade to IPA if needs be.

The parts from the knockoff Vakama being in Mata red would be so useful! Also in regards to the different shoulder pieces, they look like they were based on the prototype Toa Metru’s shoulder armour.

Quite possibly, although I still wonder what the bootleggers used as the physical basis for the mold. Maybe they got their hands on a prototype part?

I find g1 bootlegs so interesting, those sockets are quite a clever way of getting over the limitations of the cheap plastic

Apologies if someone has suggested this already, but you could probably use nail polish or rubbing alcohol to remove the paint off the masts and have two more variations. Good to see you're not inside the red star :)

I'd be interested to see the bootleg red Vakama with the gray replaced with orange to bring him almost completely in line with Tahu's colors, even if it's a little off with the slightly different red. Not sure how well the Lego parts would work with the bootleg parts though especially with the ball joints. Cool knockoffs though, it's always interesting to see bootleg versions of Bionicle. When I was a kid I probably would have been annoyed if I found out I had been sold a bootleg but these days I think the novelty of it is almost more interesting to me lol.

Those bootleg colors tarnish the entire characters more than I’d expect. I guess there’s just a subtlety to the Toa Metru that’s pretty tough to recreate.

I saw a mask from these knockoffs on eBay not too long ago. It was Matau's Great Mahiki painted in Mata green, with the mask itself being silver. I almost bought it, but was too late. :/

That redesign of the joints is interesting, if it truly does work better for what it is I wonder if LEGO would have been adverse to affecting the silhouette of the technic joint piece in a similar way?

It's a smart move if you have brittle plastic, but Lego's original & CCBS sockets have much better long-term grip.

I also got 3 knockoffs a fiew years ago They were from "ROBOTS" wich was basicly the original packaging of the figures but the logos were switched and no lego logo was there Oh and the pieces were trash I got one of Nokahma Hordica, Nuju Hordica and Rodaka

I have the same bootleg Toa Vakama, except the inside of the Huna mask is white instead of green, but with the same poorly applied red paint.
