I strongly disagree on shoes versus boots subject. I have hiked the long 320 km Annapurna Circuit 4 times in ancient eighties joggers and later with low trail runners. EBC/Khumbu trek (4 months total) I have done 3 times with joggers/trail runners. Also Makalu Circuit - Nar-Pho and Kanchenjunga to Makalu section of high GHT. On the latest treks i have used mid high Salomon Forces XA 3 trail runners which have a slightly stiffer soles than the civilian versions (which function just fine also). Reasons: light and nimble, never any blisters. I firmly believe that being nimble and responsive with lighter shoes actually lessens the possibility of ankle problems, not cause them. Boots a clumsy, especially heavy ones. I have actually climbed to Lho La pass 6000m behind EBC with the same Adidas Oregon joggers from year 1983. So there...

Certainly a somewhat inflexible and dated perspective. Season should be mentioned.
