Had mine for 19 years, done about 5000 cycles, great machine and easy to fix (parts are surprisingly easy to got hold of still), changed the gearbox and shocks. But when it finally dies I'll probably give it a send off like this 👍
@bootsowen4 жыл бұрын
Hi, does the contrarotate still work in yours?
@arnoldrimmer91614 жыл бұрын
@@bootsowen I had to change the planetary gearbox about 2 years ago that I bought off of ebay for about £50 but that was fairly straight forward. But yes contrarotator still works! Think the main bearing is on the way out though as there is a little play on the inner drum 👍
@bootsowen4 жыл бұрын
Worth fixing, if you place no value on your time. I have just this weekend done the bearings on a regular washing machine, but I have had a look at the bearings of the dyson, before I smashed it. There is a extra bearing or two in there, but bearings are relatively cheap, it is the hassle of breaking it all down. But like you say, easy to fix.
@arnoldrimmer91614 жыл бұрын
@@bootsowen yes the Dyson bearings are a strange size, probably on purpose of course, and one of the hardest parts to find.
@bootsowen4 жыл бұрын
If you know the size all bearings are pretty much standard and cheap on ebay. I made a video that is on my channel of the disassembly, but i didn't check the bearing sizes, so I'm not much help to you there. The water seal is another thing you would need.

Got to be said, the basic assembly of a washing machine is actually (usually) pretty durable The suspension, motor, motor mounts, bearings, sprocket etc.... It is things like the logic boards, water seals, control panels and door interlocks (as examples) that seem to fail more readily But it also comes down to (most often), a lack of basic maintenance and understanding of what a washing machine is and the environment such an appliance creates A friend of mine had (at the time) a 7 year old Indesit Innex (now it would be 8 years old), it is a 6KG model and he was about ready to throw it out, because it STUNK and wasn't cleaning his clothes properly I looked at it, told him he needed to clean it and he looked at me puzzled, so I set to cleaning it.... I came 3 days in a row and I cleaned that machine with hot wash cycles, bleach, soda crystals (on separate washes) and cleaning the pump and drawer assembly out He still has the machine now and it is running like new.... easy when you know how

it has an extremely heavy drum with another contrarotating drum inside it driven through a gearbox. I guess the only way that they were able to get the torque to turn it all was with two motors. Both motors work together, on one belt, so they always work together.

Still a cheap plastic tub? One woukd expect stainless steel from Dyson?
@bootsowen4 жыл бұрын
Having cleaned and restored a few of Dysons modern vacuums I am pretty certain that they won't do anything in steel that can be done cheaper with plastic. So many of their vacuums aren't designed to be repaired. This washer was a bit different, at about 20 years old it is not so bad, the tub being plastic is irrelevant. where the issue was was in the spiders. Have a look at the other videos I made about this machine. It is quite complex, but also quite simple. The spiders were badly corroded. This usually happens from too much detergent and not enough hot washes to flush the machine through. I have seen it on quite a few modern bosch machines too. Personally I can't see the point in contrarotation, but it was new at the time. As to money, there is a washing machine out there for every pocket, my eyes usually water at miele, not the new price, that is expensive, but the real scam with them is the cost of spares, I had a price of £250 for a heater element for a tumble dryer. another brand might have been about £30. They are so niche that you can't buy cheap chinese spares, so even though they are a top quality machine they still aren't worth fixing. I think that dyson washer was made in the UK. Thanks for the comments. Perhaps you have calmed down now!

@darrencady42614 жыл бұрын
@@bootsowen That Dyson was one tough customer. I would have thought that the spiders would have given out straight away on both machines when you think of the forces at work, you know, centrifugal/centripetal. It just goes to show you these things are much stronger than we give credit. Even the non Dyson faired well considering the abuse it took. And the spiders never gave out. Yet in time they would have failed because of either galvanic or chemical corrosion. I never will understand why washing machine spiders' are made from cast aluminium bolted to a steel drum or why manufacturers are not using ceramic bearings instead of steel. But I'm just a nobody!
