Wow you're so lucky to find that 👍 I've always wanted one of the original Dyson hand dryers, the big gray & yellow one with the twin air-blades & also one of the later refined V style ones they did. I need a bigger house! At Weatherspoons near me there's two cheap non- Dyson dryers side by side, I always use both at once, one for each hand teehee! 'Air-blade' dryers are remarkably effective for the brief time they run to do the job. Probably about as efficient as one can get to quickly dry your hands with a kilowatt! Hmmm I might go looking on fleabay hehe. I still want a purple Contrarotator washing machine too, but one that hasn't being electronically gelded by Dyson & doesn't have disintegrated spiders! I'd set it up in a bathroom for use as intended. Although the email from my supplier informing me prices rise to 70p a unit when/if the "Energy Price Guarantee" would put me off. At that rate the solar Feed In Tariff will be less than the import price! Who'd've thought?!

As is the case, unless you are quite technical it's cheaper in labour hours to buy off the shelf proximity sensors for established microcontrollers. But like you, I value my time as 0 or negative for the satsifaction of reusing bits that are laying around.

I am not surprised this hand dryer is in the skip, they're poorly made, and designed to be replaced if a tiny fault occurs. The "SMARTdri" and "Xlerator" are far more reliable

This doesn’t surprise me that this dryer ended up in the skip because they have an extremely poor reliability and they are made of the cheapest possible plastic. These dryers always replace better things as well, which is why I hate them.
