I’ve always wondered why Addison, a very intelligent pretty woman, would stay with a man who obviously is in love with someone else. She should have some dignity for herself. She said it herself the Derek loves Meredith.

Because we are stupid, for some reason we are stupid enough to believe they care, because we care so damn much that we are desperate for them to care like we do, we are desperate to want to believe and we just don't know how to stop, we know when they don't feel the same.... we are just really lost and dont know how to stop ourselves... and believe me... it's so awful and heartbreaking

In private practice, it was shown that Addison never saw a stable marriage either...... Her father, the Captain always kept sleeping around......and so I think she just wanted a stable marriage......

Not to say that excuses it, but it certainly explains why she slept with Mark, a guy who cared for her. She basically wanted to feel that and also maybe know if her husband would react if she went that far
