I cannot for the life of me understand the decision to put the charge port on the side of the Note Air 3 C. That's probably my biggest gripe since I want to be able to close the folio when charging. I happen to love the hint of orange, so you lost me on that one :) another great video. If Boox would spend less time producing new models, I think they would catch a lot of the things you highlighted.

This is a great channel and you deserve far more viewers. I have one piece of constructive criticism though - wait until you’re hands on before going too hard on a particular device or manufacturer. Just because another KZbinr says something doesn’t make it right.
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 ай бұрын
You're absolutely correct! 💯 About one person's opinion doesn't make it right. But the raised backing isn't an opinion, it's an actual fact. Now, that may not bother you, and may not even bother me, now that I've seen it. But it's still a fact of the device I wish was handled by making a place for it, like they did on the now Go Color 7. I get what you're saying but I didn't need the device to make that assessment, I could see it in the marketing materials. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.

🙋‍♂️Hi Roderick! Out of the top reviewers on these devices so far, Voya is the only one to notice the faux leather issue on the Boox Go 10.3, and I commented on his video "Watch for those paper cuts." He would be the one to notice such a thing as he scrutinizes everything, and don't get me wrong, that is a good thing. I can see this being a bigger issue if this starts to be unglued and peel off, and that could be Onyx "Achilles Heal". We will have to wait and see as more people buy into this first batch of the "Beta Testers" design. I will wait for the hype to die down and do my usual self informative research before I plunge into anything new. As far as the Orange stripe, charge port and speakers on the Note Air 3C. I did not find it to be a problem, plus black and orange is my favorite color combo. Ok so it's not black, it's a dark gray and that is close enough for me. Love the content and your point of view as always.💗👍 Kudos from NYC.🗽

I LOVE the orange on the device. And they have to have antenna lines, so I think it's cool that they embraced that and put it into the design. The problem I have with the NAC3 is the QC. I went through 10 devices that all had a nasty shadow along the right hand side.
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 ай бұрын
Yea people seem to really like the Orange. I like orange but just not on my devices. As for QC, do you have the noise coming from the screen when you press it, like I did?
@VidMashUp
@VidMashUp 3 ай бұрын
@@rantsabouttechnology I checked after I saw you do that, and since I still have 4 of them in my custody, I tried all 4 and they do have something like that in various places on the left hand side. Like the rest is solid, but that area on the left is hollow and you can definitely feel it when you squeeze.
@VidMashUp
@VidMashUp 3 ай бұрын
@@rantsabouttechnology also, something that doesn't show up on reviews because of studio lighting is how uneven the front lighting is. When I put these side by side, they're all calibrated differently from heavily tinted toward the green side or the red side and like I mentioned before, the very noticeable shadow on the right hand side which is about an inch thick. It really takes away from the illusion of writing on paper when you have that discrepancy. I greatly prefer it if there is enough ambient light to make that become a non-issue. But when I'm using it in a dark place it's painfully evident.
@rantsabouttechnology

Yea I've noticed that too, thought it was a UI element at first. Very distracting!
@rantsabouttechnology

I guess that hollow spot couldn't be avoided, but man I just think they could have just put something there to make it more solid. But idk, maybe it has to be. Still sux though.

This is not how math works. It should be a horizontal asymptote.
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 ай бұрын
Asymptotes can be represented vertically. A vertical asymptotes occur where the denominator of a rational function approaches zero. Zero can represent the difference between two numbers. If one number never reaches another, their difference will always be a non-zero number. In my example I'm referring to one objects inability to reach another... ever. That is asymptotic by nature. I'm willing to debate this as long as you can prove me wrong. I'm absolutely okay with being wrong, and learning the correct way of looking at it. I prefer it actually. Thanks for the comment, I love a good math debate :)
@heckald
@heckald 3 ай бұрын
@@rantsabouttechnology on the axis of time on the x axis and greatness on the y and you have a vertical asymptote then you reach infinite greatness. Your time axis also doesn't make sense as it approaches zero. Whereas if you have a horizontal asymptote and your definition of greatness is that line, only then are you saying it never breaks that boundary of greatness. And the time axis works better because as time increases it never crosses the line of greatness, it plateaus never crossing the line for being great.
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 ай бұрын
Ahhhh, as soon as you said crosses the y axis I knew where I f'ed up 😂 Good on you mate and thank you for the correction. Though I think my understanding of it is on point, my graphical representation was the issue. My next asymptotic example is gonna be on point lol.

I don't think you're being nitpicky. I will say that I have been watching Voya a long time and rhe last time I saw him this excited was when he unboxed the Supernote A6X2. I am excited about his full review and yours. The biggest issue for Boox is their software from everything I have seen. It is not user-friendly at all.

I would disagree owning 2 boox devices and soon to be the go once it shows up, the 2 best have to be supernote and boox one does things better then the other but boox is not hard to use compared to others
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 ай бұрын
@@rush48192 Not "Hard" to use, with time almost anyone came get the hang of it... with time. But we were just talking about being user friendly. And that, it is not. Just meaning the tools arent as intuitive as they could be. Case and point. No quick access menu, or tools at the point of your selection (when using the selection tool). Doesn't seem like much, but both are solely there for the user to make things easier. For some this even puts tools in their face, that they didn't know they had, right when they might need them. Thats intuitive design. Things wouldn't be hard without them, hence no other product has them and we get along just fine. But not having them does mean Boox devices, are in fact, not very user-friendly.

@@rantsabouttechnology Mind you, as a middle-aged mom-person having grown up with Windows 95 (and who never really liked iOS, no matter how much I used at for work), so: the opposite of what you would think of in terms of "tech bro", I do not find the Boox UI particularly complicated. In fact, I would definitely rather have a clunky and ugly UI that lets me tweak stuff to my liking than one that patronizes me with the promise of "beautiful, sleek & simple" while not letting me do what I need or want (looking at you, Apple, and, in a way, also Remarkable).

@julieparadise9694 lol @ "looking at reMarkable and Apple." Buuuut you know waaaaaaay more about these devices than even I know, and will prolly ever know, lol. So, I would make the case that you are the exception, that proves the rule. I don't think very many devices would have you stumped!

Since we’re talking about the frustratingly uneven performance of vendors in this market, It frustrates me that we are seeing so many “if only’s” (if only reMarkable had released the 3 already, the Scribe didn’t have a huge gap between the screen edge and the body, Supernote had ANY stock of 10.3” devices, Mobi had reliable firmware, etc.), the fact remains that this is an exciting time to be involved with e-ink. Explosive progress like this is rare. The only equivalent examples that come to mind right now are the rapid progress from early VCR’s to later video players, the early days of personal computers, and subsequent developments after Apple released the first iPhone.
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 ай бұрын
I think you might be over stating the boom in eInk devices quite a bit. This is nothing like the iPhone release, or the VCR (for goodness sakes!).... Early days of the personal computer???? Whoaaa, slow down man. No one cares about eInk in the mainstream. It's gaining traction, but it's not a revolutionary change happening here. It's just a few companies, releasing new products with old tech that's been out for years. Nothing new in this space other than design and implementation. Those other technologies were totally new and unheard of. I mean, eInk can't even do proper colors yet.

@@rantsabouttechnology perhaps I was unclear. I was referring to the pace of change, not the importance of these devices. I've only been watching them a couple of years, and in that time we've gone from remarkable 2 and Note Air 2 to the Tab series, Kaleido 1300, the rise and fall of Gallery, etc. That's where I see parallels- the first IBM PC I saw cost $6K, had a monochrome screen and no storage- programs were loaded off cassette tape. A couple of years later, enthusiasts were buying clones with colour displays, floppy and hard drives for around $1,000.

I can't agree more with your impressions. I had the opportunity to test the device. In a word: it feels cheap. It is a couple of efforts from good. But the efforts lack. That is Boox. Side to side with a Supernote, it feels like a proto. There's no sense at all. Less devices, more efforts in making a great one, in my humble opinion.

Very interesting points, thanks for taking a meta-approach, that goes beyond just build quality and UI details and delves into design philosophy etc. Really refreshing to hear. I guess the Boox strategy is not to sell their current/newest products but to always sell the next/upcoming product (if that makes any sense). That's why they can't release a perfect product. It always has to be imperfect enough in order for the next device to be seemingly perfect (and so on and so on), if you get what I mean. That also shows in their broad product portfolio and frequent release cycles (almost every year) compared to Supernote or even remarkable (no new product since 4 years at all).
