I think you need to set the right expectations when purchasing these devices. They are not designed to use as a normal android tablet but solely for reading and simple note taking only. So if you care about the software and lag on the screen, you shouldn’t pick a device like this at the first place

I have viewed several other reviews of this device and there is the common complaint about the weight. But my Kindle Paperwhite with its cover on weighs more and is thicker and it is a smaller device. The Tab Mini C can more easily be removed from its case than the Kindle, so I don’t think the weight issue is a great negative at all.

The win for me is that I can run Kindle, nook, duolingo, and Notion. The device costs about the same as a kindle and a nook combined. I buy mostly art books and magazines or I would be more into the Palma

Thanks for this review. Suggestion: I’d love to see how responsive the device is, but you’ve edited out many of the delays. One of the issues I have with my current device is how slow it is the register my clicks.

Are you writing with a keyboard? and what did you end up going with? I wanted to get this for typing but wasn't sure if too small AND if it will run Office Word (or similar) without issue.

@@MKu64 For typing, I've been using a Samsung Tab S7 with a Keychron K6. It also has a Paperlike screen protector for writing with the stylus, which I've written entire short stories and novel chapters with in Google Docs. There's something about using a stylus that just feels more creative for me, so I've (still) been looking for something small enough to justify ditching the bluetooth mechanical keyboard.

I purchased my Mini C because of 1. its size (fits in my jacket pocket), 2. it is backlit and 3. the battery last much longer that my iPad mini Gen 6 (the battery is always empty, and Mini C weighs the same as iPad mini). correct me if I am wrong, based on my research There is no e-ink tablet that has these three characteristics!

What are our freedoms on annotating books with boox? Boox looks to be a better option for me than a kindle since im a big audiobook/library ebook app person, but i want to know if i can make notes with highlights, bookmark highlights, categorize bookmarks, etc

So you can’t do all of those things including writing on the pages of the books in EVERY reading app, except Kindle. That’s not a Boox issue, it’s a Kindle thing. Because it’s like that across the board regardless of what device you use kindle books. Only exception would be “pirated” books on your kindle app. I have a friend who has a few documents and the kindle app will let them annotate directly on the pages of those. But the kindle app will let you highlight, underline, bookmark and add tabs for your annotations/comments

I don’t know what I should get. I want an e reader that I can write on I also really only love the kindle app. I like the backlight because I do read at night and dark spaces. I would like a smoother experience. I am think about the books air 3 c or the kindle scribe I love the idea of the supernote but there is no backlight. Thoughts?

If you are almost exclusively Kindle then definitely start with the Scribe.

1. You’ll have to make your own decision about risk tolerance. 2. There are better people to comment on this than I, but as long as it continues to get security updates and you’re not a high profile figure or doing illegal activity, then I think it will be secure enough for most users.

Since you have them, which do you prefer and why: Supernote A5X, reMarkable 2, Kindle Scribe, Boox Note Air 2 Plus. Focus on note taking but love to hear bonus features that make you pick one over the others. I have the first three and thinking about Air 2 Plus

If you’re focus is note taking then you already have the best in the remarkable and Supernote. I would only steer you to the Boox if you feel you need additional Android apps.

DON'T BUY FROM BOOX After 2 months of having my Mini Tab C the screen breaks. After talking to customer service they claimed there was some external force that caused it and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. This was in their case in a bookbag with other sensitive electronic none of which had an issue like this. They said I can pay another $270 to fix it. I think I'll just take the loss of $400 before it ends up being a loss of $670.

Yeah, this is a big problem since their devices are more fragile compared to other manufacturers that use the same screens. Pretty much 90% of e-ink screens come from the same factory. However, only BOOX is overusing the "broken by external force" excuse and blaming the user every time when their built quality is obviously lacking, and they know it (planned obsolescence much?). Even a little force applied to their frames/screens can break the e-ink layer render it unusable, unlike a Kindle that can withstand more (rough handling and) "damage" before breaking. Boox devices can break due to suddenly temperature changes, they're so thin, lightweight and fragile in general that anything can damage them. Don't buy from them unless you know it's not going to be a big monetary loss to you in the short run.

I can only speak from my experience as a long time boox nova users (more than four years), that I never experienced with any of these problems. I never baby this thing and could throw it right away without any worry to my bag.

You have blasted the screen with the backlight, it's not a fair comparison battery and eye comfort wise, compared to other devices which are whiter by default.

The devices are on auto brightness so they are going to appear very bright when the filming lights are on. My point was you can compensate for the screen’s naturally blue tone.

​​@@mcd00gathere is no better option for color eink, from what I have seen they are all color 150ppi, black 300ppi. I don't have one I can't tell if 150ppi is noticeable compared to a sharp 300ppi black.

@@mcd00ga Monochrome e-ink devices are way better as seen in the video. The text's crispness is legibly superior at simple glance.
