I have the three volumes of How to play Bebop by David Baker. Slowly working my way through volume one. But not recently, since I have been stuck on page 4 and 5 of Triad Pairs for Jazz by Gary Campbell (the overview of triad pairs within conventional seven-tone diatonic scales)

Would you clarify how that is a g phrygian "dominant?" In G phrygian, the notes would be G-Ab-Bb-C-D-Eb-F-G, but clearly you have B-natural instead and there is no Bb. The F and F# are accounted for because of the bebop scale structure, but how do you call it Phrygian if it is missing the Bb?
@Mikkokosmos3 жыл бұрын
The phrygian sound is defined by the b2 not the b3. G phrygian = G Ab Bb C D Eb F Raise the Bb to a B natural and you get a Phygian Dominant scale. Add the F# and you get a bop scalr 😎

@@Mikkokosmos and then you create 7th arpeggios (formulae) from that scale, including the natural 7. Gets really great when you are fluent with say b2 Dom 7 or IIImaj7.

Regarding phrasing, same goes for American fiddling. I guess the African Americans had fiddles in the really early days and no sax.

So... it's not a coincidence that it sounds like Donna Lee, right?..
@johnrothfield61263 жыл бұрын
Sure sounds like old time fiddling where the off notes are open strings

Triplets how are they different than Irish or baroque? Probably not.
