Recently, Hoshi from Seventeen was a guest on Suga's show Suchwita. He spent the first quarter of the show telling Suga that "BTS Paved The Way". Yoongi kept downplaying it, saying that the other groups made it on their own talent and hard work - but Hoshi wasn't having it. In the end, Yoongi finally conceded that "BTS may have opened the door slightly". But Hoshi said. " You did more than just open the door. You have to know that".💜 Hoshi was so adamant about BTS paving the way. And he was so determined that Yoongi understand that. He wasn't going to let Yoongi downplay BTS' contributions to the world of KPop. Poor Yoongi was getting quite flustered - it was so sweet to see. And so typical of BTS to downplay ( or not even fully realize) the affect they've had on KPop, world wide. After all, they just - did what they did. The fact that, by doing so, they opened the door for KPop worldwide, is something that they could never have anticipated. And came about simply by BTS being BTS.💜 I really loved the episode ( episode 6, I think), and you may want to watch it. Also episode 7 had Jimin as the guest, and watching the interaction between the two, is just so sweet.💜 Also, when it comes to members of other groups listening to BTS - there are several videos of Bangchan reacting to BTS songs. Or other groups reacting to BTS songs. Or just listening to, and rocking out to, BTS songs.💜👍🏻

Bang Chan from Stray Kids also readily admits that BTS paved the way. Lots of kpop idols have no problem admitting this fact. It's mostly the companies and kpop stans who really deny it. Edit: i forgot that his clip was in this boracity video already hahahaha sorry

I don’t think they hate it. On the contrary, they support it, and fans of these bands believe that their favorites achieved it themselves without the help of bts.Many bands themselves know that bts paved their way, and fans don’t want to put up with it.

27:00 Trust me, army knows hahaha. We tried so hard to get radios to play BTS back in 2017 and 2018 but non-English songs are so hard to get to radioplay and charts. ANd I remember the radio djs making group chats to make fun of armys about our efforts lol

Just to clarify, since you went over that part with those 2 Korean journalists again, I believe this happened at the time when BTS got grammy-nominated for "Best Recording Package" in 2019 for their 2018 "Love Your Self: Tear" physical album design. So what the journalists observed is that a lot of S.Korean media were downplaying that achievement because it was only for Best Recording Package, instead of something perhaps more important like, Album of the Year, or Best New Artist, etc. In this case, the media considered Best Recording Package as a minor category. It is similar to in the Oscars where a big category would be like Best Actor or Best Film & a minor category would be something like Best Sound Design, or Hairstyle, or Costume etc. Yet no matter what grammy category, BTS had been the only artists from KPop ever to have gotten a grammy nomination at all. Now, there have been at least 2 Koreans who have ever won a grammy in the past, in 1993 & 2012, iirc. Today, BTS has since gotten more grammy nominations, including the infamous loss last year in the Pop Duo/Group. Afaik, BTS has now been snubbed 3 times at the grammys, but at least they are still the only group in KPop to have ever been nominated. Other KPop groups have been bandied about as possibly getting a nomination, such as Stray Kids & Blackpink, but they have never gotten listed. I'm not sure about the number of gram nominations now but I think BTS has a total of 6, if not 5. This includes the one from 2019 (aforementioned above), 2021, 2022 & three noms this year in 2023. What does that mean? It just means that BTS is 5-6 times higher in gram noms that anyone else in KPop. And the irony of all this is that BTS was initially really not supposed to be in KPop at all until Bang PD decided that they should. And I would say that was their first smart move, thanks to Bang. The other thing the 2 journalists were saying that you recognized is that other KPop groups would get more Korean media attention about any achievements they may have done, while BTS would get less media for something bigger. This reminded me of when Jason Derulo got Billboard #1 for Savage Love & immediately put on some kind of big party. For only one song, heh. It's like he's already happy that one song made him big. Compare that to BTS, where they keep cranking out songs that could get multiple #1's, if that makes sense. I have not heard of anything else since from Derulo, which probably makes it obvious that his Savage Love would not have made it to #1 had BTS never was attached to that project. Today, while they still get hate, I think BTS is getting a little bit better respect & coverage from Korean media. Baby steps. But let's just wait & see what happens in the coming years, especially when they regroup in 2025 ... we hope.

22:19 twitter armys have been trying to get bts on radios for a LONGG time. I still remember requesting Like Crazy to be played on 'the most requested live' and a lot of other armys also requetsted like crazy aswell until the radios hashtag was trending! When you click on the hashtag, you can see a whole lot of people are requesting like crazy.. but the funny thing is that the radio never played like crazy! It's like they're ignoring us or something :')

Fans/ARMY are ignored because we are not paying the US Radio to play the track. The US radio ONLY play what an artist company label have paid the radio stations to play. It's illegal and referred to as 'Payola'.

@@calculator_lover1 Yes it's illegal and one promoter who was acting as the go between the Music companies and the 3 main Radio Stations Companies in the US got caught. That's how's it came to light it was in the major US Newspapers. I'm not even in the US or an American but I know more about the corrupt US Music Industry than most American's do.

Another reason they don't get played on the radio in America because the label isn't greasing their palms. Radio play is bought like a commodity, #1 singles are negotiated and paid for. I used to work at a country radio station, and our program director was at a show with some artists I love - I was hounding him to play them on the radio. His response? "Yeah, man they are so good! I really wish they had a label so we could play them." It is the same in the K-Pop industry - it's all about money and power, and it makes them NUTS that BTS was able to achieve such success while by-passing the "rules" and politics. And the "next BTS" is not a thing - that is like saying "the next Beatles" - both of these acts were lightning in a bottle that can't be replicated. Some people have called BTS the next Beatles, they were the "Korean Invasion" like the Beatles did for British music, and the guys would tell interviewers that they don't see themselves that way. And OYE - toxic fans make me crazy (esp. toxic Armies - we are supposed to be a force for GOOD like our boys) - I DON'T GET IT!!!! Do you have so little faith in your artist? And although I remember PSY - as you said - it was basically a novelty song one hit wonder. I had no clue where he was even from, so he didn't make me look to Korea for more music. I had never even heard the term "K-pop" or heard of any other Korean act until BTS hit the scene. Sadly I didn't hear of them until 2017 when they were on the AMAs - I heard all this hype about them coming. I was surprised I hadn't heard of them and wondered what the fuss was about. When I saw them perform "DNA", I said, "OOOOH!!!! THAT is what the fuss is about!! I'm IN!" I've been devoted Army ever since. AND - because they paved the dadgum way, because THEY - single-handedly - made me aware of K-Pop, there are now other artists that I enjoy. None on the level that I do BTS, but I have streamed their stuff and purchased their music, which would never have happened without BTS.

BTS and Bigbang have friendships, and they have recently promoted each other. At least Taeyang has from Big Bang. Suga had him on Suchwita, and RM, JIMIN, and SUGA are friends with him and have been to some events together. BTS also support other artists. Even those within their own company that are their juniors that are in competitition with them. The issue is just like Bora says. It's many of the groups and labels from the big three that are the issue, and their fanbases. We also have some toxic fans that bite back at them and shouldn't but that happens with many fandoms, and just comes with the territory.

The Grammys are not good with giving awards to foreigners in general . Because I’m sorry they lost against Doja cat ( who was not a group but a colab) . And I’m sure BTS numbers are much higher then doja cat

The members do have some friends outside the agency but like Jin said he doesn't have friends within the Kpop industry as artist are afraid to be connected to them. He even said his mobile phone has only 10 contacts in it due to this issue. It's to do with the Big 3 mainly they don't want their artist associated with BTS or any of it's members. Expect for when they can create some issue that will get their own artist trending on social media. cough cough the Jennie/ V so called hacked sound cloud photo's of them together. which were a mix of real photo's and edited photos.

The American Music Market "gatekeeps" Western Music/English songs. Think about it, if they played all different language songs that are popular here in the U.S., western/English speaking artists would have quite a bit of competition...and...The American Music Industry does NOT like the fact that BTS does not need the industry to be successful and therefore they will make no money off of them.

Their English one's stayed at number 1 however they had 6 Number 1's. Billboard change their rules every time BTS or their solo's get a Number 1. Like removing Jimin's sales number by 90% recently after he debuted at No 1

"Shinhwa" is still first generation. Which is why they are named with longlivety: they are still together: the longest act to do so. They founded - after two full contracts together - their own label. Recently they had a comeback (they had to erase a member from the promo - that idiot was involved with a drunk-driving accident). That wish isn't about success but staying together. A member from Ateez is a very big BTS fan actually: specfically Jimin. His fans know that and have gifted him Jimin merch on more than one occasion. I'd never use allkpop as a source - too toxic (and too many solos/idiots). No, I'm not an Atiny but I thought that particular context was not a good thing. Otherwise I love her essays - she just doesn't care about those details as she is not really interested in those artists. Fair. No one has to be more instrested in what is not their artist. 💜

It's the labels themselves that start it they direct the fan base as to what to do, say, put on social media to bring BTS down any way they can. They did it a lot even before they debuted and it was worse once they debuted as they saw them as rivals for their own company's groups. The Kpop Industry is foul and very competitive industry.

Yeah! Songs BTS songs like 1. Black Swan, 2. Blood, Sweat and Tears, 3. Butterfly, 4. Spring Day, 5. Not Today, 6. Louder Than Bombs, 7. Truth Untold, 8. Home, 9. Not Today, 10. Save Me, 11. Ddaenge these amazing 11 songs by BTS never made been number #1 on Billboards top 100 charts, I don't even think these 11 songs been top 10 on BBs 100 top charts neither because it's all in Korean language, but instead these 11 amazing BTS songs to be alease top 10 Billboards charts at Hot 100 in past charts instead Billboards only puts mostly BTS only english songs like Dynamite and Butter, and sure Life Goes On song was at Hot #1 100 BB top chart but it last long for couple days a week, because, It was in Korean language and it was year 2020 during pandemic at time.

You will not hear BTS songs on the main 3 corporate radio stations in the USA due to the fact BTS and their company refuse to be involved in illegal practices. The songs you hear on USA radio are paid for by their labels it's illegal however they all do it. Therefore radio play should not be counted towards Billboard but it is rather than emphaise on sales be they physical or digital sales. USA has the most corrupt music industry in the world. We thought Korea was bad when they have 'when they freeze the number of album sales and then apologise by saying it was a techquical issue'. Also American labels pay for 'Created lists' and if you don't click off one quick enough eg you got forced to stream part of a song that's on a 'created list' paid from by a record label it's counted as a view. When clearly it's not and organic view it's a paid for view.

No he didn't he was showing how bad it was, he was high lighting how the media downplay BTS achievements compared to biging up other Kpop artist who belong to the Big 3. The whole conversation was extremely revealing.

It's English AND can the American music Industry make money out of artists from other countries if they can't they'll keep them out. It's all about what the American music industry can scrim off the top either by having a non American artist have a contract with an American Music Company/label or by a non American Artists own company paying US Radio to play their songs. US Music Industry is corrupt at it's core it's the 'Rotten Apple' of World Music.

There are a lot of snakes in the grass issues. Eg people who pretend to be BTS fans but are not and will cause havoc by doing and saying things in the 'name' of ARMY but if you do a back search you'll find they are from 'other' fanbase's and are not fans of BTS at all. One of the biggest clues are the one's who say 'I was a fan of their early work or I was a fan but don't like their fans/ARMY'. So if they can't discredit BTS they'll pretend to be ARMY then discredit ARMY either by their actions or openly attacking ARMY.

You are right Girls Gen and other second gen kpop grps were very niche, they were not impactful as bts has been. Psy was only a novelty one hit wonder like Despacito and the macarena was. Bts is in a higher level than that

47:00 Kpop fanwars. I compare them to how passionate some sports fans get too with their respective teams. Back in 2nd gen, kpop stans would get into street brawls. Labels instigated fanwars because it made more money via that passion. My advice? Stay FAAARRRRRR away from fanwars, rumors, scandals, solo fans, antis, mantis, shippers, and etc etc. It's all drama and pointless. Just focus on facts and proof.
