That's just disingenuous though. The only way that's true is relative to other kpop/musical groups. But BTS (as in the group, brand etc) still targets and benefits stan culture, which inherently revolves around 'fabrication'. Appreciating that an artist is more honest doesn't mean deluding yourself into thinking they aren't also inherently putting up an act.

Bts benefitting from people genuinely liking bts to where many are hard core fans is not and will never be disignenious. Bts are just thenselves and people like them. Lying to discredit them and acting like stanning is an example of them disingenious when it means the exact opposite. You saying this only holds true for kpop and not worldwide artists who are just as fabricated as any other kpop group even more so than then cause they have an even greater worldwide reach Bts has constantly told us that they dont want or care to put on an act many times over the years and they still do. @aligensa10 ай бұрын
Then why put it that way if that's not intended? I think it means exactly that, and even the comments reinforce that further (eg by saying what makes BTS unique, that other groups are lacking in some way etc). If you wonder why Army has such a bad image in other fandoms, that's exactly the reason: it's you who are making a competition out of everything, and then you accuse others of denigrating BTS. Just enjoy the success if that's important to you, but stop gloating about it and stop comparing. If you feel they are unique and better, that is obviously true because you like them better than others, but that's not true for everyone, and not just a handful of people either.

@@aligensa You are either not understanding or just being agruementative here. I'm hoping it's just you don't understand. Saying something or someone is unique is not an insult to anyone or any other group. I wonder if you really understand what he word really means maybe looking up what that word means will help you. Saying someone or thing or group is different and/or unique is not putting other's down.

As a 63 year old Korean American I knew about Kpop before I found BTS. I’ve watched shows like music bank and none of the groups that were featured impressed me at all. As a matter of fact I thought they were pretty bad in my opinion that I forced myself to watch all the way through to be fair. I really tried but couldn’t compare to the music I loved the most which was music from the past in the western music. Anything from 1990’s and down. I lost interest in music altogether by the year 2000. I found BTS in 2021 and they renewed my love for music but only for their music. No one can compare whether they are K-pop or western.

I had lost interest in music too for a long time until I found BTS. I live in the US and the western music industry is....well not so good but there are a few, not mainstream hidden gems here and there. I grew up on classic rock (before I knew just how sexist a lot of classic rock is) and traditional celtic music as my family is from that part of the world, listening to music in other languages did not phase me in the least. BTS is my refuge when it comes to music because where I live I can't turn around without Taylor Swift or Olivia Rodrigo being shoved in my face with their latest romances on every magazine cover, or news report--sorry didn't mean to vent there!😂💜

I think BTS is the best bc they really care about their music career above everything else. They have music journey well defined. Arrived at this point in their career I don't think they aim to create hits but in creating music that means something to them even if it's not a popular beat at the moment. I don't know how to explain myself well but I've always perceived them more attached to their music than to success at all costs.
@rhythmelia10 ай бұрын
Yes! Obviously it's lovely to get recognition from one's peers in the industry and reach particular milestones, but those are more a consequence of the quality of the music they're making. The guys have told us themselves, so many times, that what's important to them is that they make music that reaches people's hearts and minds, and have meaning for the people who like their music. And a natural result of making such good music is that fans want to tell others about their music, and grow recognition of it. I'm just glad that the guys are at the point in their careers that they don't have to specifically chase trends or do well enough in particular competitions to be able to keep their company doors open and have enough capital to keep making music - they're at the stage that they can do what they want, in exploring their artistic careers 💜

Yes, you can see this clearly in RM's Indigo. Did it become a huge record-breaking hit outside of ARMY, not really but RM wasn't aiming for that, he was expressing essentially his thoughts to close out the chapter of his 20's by exploring different genres that resonated with him. If these songs impact people outside of ARMY great, but he was not looking to make the next biggest, most profitable tiktok bop, (leave that to TS and OR no shade just irkes me), or hoping that all his songs would be #1 on Billboard hot 100. He wants to be the Wildflower in a field of other wildflowers. Also, each member brings something different to the table, be it skill, personality, style that make BTS a cohesive whole.

I was introduced to k-pop in 2012. I watched a lot of M/V's from SO many different groups -male and female. And although I thought they were talented, there were only a handful of songs from a few groups that I listened to more than once. A lot of that was a lack of translations. But the main reason was that I confused most of the groups because their sound or concept were so similar to each other. That’s still the case. BTS found me in 2016. I STILL watch a lot of the new music releases. (Korean or otherwise) It’s rare that I find a singer or group that really interests me. I don’t much care about which country that music is from… just that it’s good (by my own definition). BTS stands out on every level. I didn’t fall for them because I liked one song. I fell HARD because I love every song in their discography. Because they blow my mind every live performance…. and on top of everything, they are all wonderful human beings. BTS is exceptional in every way~

Suga has spoken. I remember a clip of Bangtan doing the team huddle before going on stage and RM reminding them, "remember we're nothing yet" I was shocked because I thought it was harsh but it was actually perfect for them. It encapsulates their humility but as well their hunger and belief they can be the best, they were nothing "yet". And now they are truly the best. Also, BTS is the best for ARMY because as Suga and JK discussed on Suchwita, ARMY wants BTS to be true to themselves as artists. General Kpop fans can argue forever about who's the best for visuals, rap, vocals, concepts, stage presence, but BTS is the best at being authentic artists, real ARMYs will stay as long as that's true. I've heard people stop being ARMY's because BTS sold out with all the English releases, they don't need to release English songs to be successful, they were big internationally before they were big in Korea. That's how hard it was for Bangtan.

Good analysis. The challenge I have found with getting into k-pop a year ago is I can find a few songs I like from many groups but can't get really into the group because I don't enjoy the bulk of their discography or all of it starts to sound the same. It is like finding something you love at a thrift store. It is possible but you have to pick through a lot of junk. BTS is completely different. I enjoy 95% of their discography and the expansive variety of songs, styles, and genres make it so I could technically only listen to BTS and never get bored. That is rare. Most artists stick to a lane and don't dare to invest in their own potential. That is the difference between good and great.

Exactly how it was for me too, i only liked a handful of songs thru hundreds i skimmed. same with variety shows. I gave a lot of them tries but I just dont see the spark and bond for me to keep watching ykwim? id like one off, but i dont enjoy a bulk of them whereas its opposite of that with BTS for me too. something boracity said and i agree, a lot of them are also not invested or interested in their own art and that lessens my interest. like im the same with western artists too, singer-songwriters are my go-to for a reason🤷🏻♀️

To be honest, BTS is the first k-pop group that I got into during my freshman years in high school back in 2016 and I can’t stop myself from watching their mv to listening to their music from all of their albums from each era of theirs (got into BTS through their wings era), but what make BTS stand out the most is the fact that their music has a huge influence and a universal storytelling appeal that make them so unique and outstanding by using different genres or creativity. Not only that, but their lyrics have deeper meanings about self-love, loss of loved ones, struggles in society and life, youths, and mental health/hardships that younger generations are facing now today. Is sad to know that not many people don’t understand or appreciate BTS’s hardwork and dedication that they put into their music, or the hardships and the hate that BTS has endured for 10 years. Not even the idol/music industry appreciates them. But us army will always support and appreciate their dedication and hardwork. I wish that BTS can see how their music brings happiness and joy to others and helps us get through the difficult times in our lives and inspires us to not lose our hopes and dreams, even taught the importance of self-love and using our voices to speak up for ourselves. BTS had helped me to get through the toughest days in my life and inspire me to become a better version of myself and loving myself for who I truly am 🩷💜💙 BTS are truly the legends and kings of music 💜✨

Until BTS I used to pay attention solely to choreography, different style/concepts, cool outfits/makeup, and flashy MVs, the more superficial aspects. I still listen to kpop but not as much as before. One day, in 2014, Boy in Luv popped-up for me (I used to check 1theK channel every week lol). And I must say, back in 2014, BTS stood out. Like, A LOT. I could see their passion and it was not the eyeliner's fault!! Well, the rest is history and for the first time I became part of a fandom. Im a 77 year old grandma who didn't know anything about k-pop, I hated modern American music, and never liked boy bands. Basically only listened to American oldies (1950s to 1960s), some Christian music and some older country. Back when people sang songs that had meaning. Then in 2020, I was going through a rough time and was sad and depressed. Thanks to KZbin, somehow I stumbled up on BTS. They had songs that touched me emotionally, songs that made me cry the tears I needed to cry, and songs that were happy and made me dance again. They were so open and honest. I couldn't believe a group could open up so much about their own struggles and bared their souls and were not ashamed to cry and admit they are human. They helped me get my life back. They each have their own unique personality, which really came through on their solo work. Other k-pop groups have a few songs I like but they don't have the wide range of music genres that BTS has. And they just don't have that special, unique quality that BTS does, that makes me feel like I know them. Their openness and honesty helped me face my own feelings and accept that it was ok to be my own true self and not worry about what others thought I should be. Really, there is no way to describe their uniqueness to anyone who hasn't experienced it.

I'm a simple person, if I like the sound I hear, then I like it. After that only I watch the choreo, read the lyrics but the first thing is the sound. Always the sound. No doubt other artists' song is catchy but it's not enough for me to listen to again and again and again. BTS is different. I heard epiphany, then I wanted to hear more...and then discover more songs that I like. Like you, I also listen to other group. I watched the most streamed kpop song compilation to discover new song but seldom found new interest. For me personally, BTS is the best👍☺. Tq for this video💜.

I also found BTS in 2020 and totally fell in love with their Music. I didn't even watch mv's cuz I'm passive listener. I listened to songs that randomly show up. That was the best day when Waste it on Me showed up. So pleasant on the ears. That's it. I'm tuned to find more about BTS that everyone talks about. One song and I'm like, I've never heard such a unique voice like this belonging to Jimin. It's so Awesome. Eventually I got to know more BTS songs:( Absolute Bangers!) and others k-pop songs and groups. They were nice but I couldn't like all of their songs. Either the whole group is Cute concept or Badass concept. Rather than songs, the focus was more on Image. That is the thing I really don't care about. I got out of k-pop cuz I was done with mid comeback songs from big groups that sounded tasteless. Every fandom started mass hating and targeting BTS cuz their faves weren't winning or getting attention. They got super sensitive and humiliated whenever BTS was praised. I just never found anyone more Well Rounded than BTS. BTS literally the best at everything. I was more surprized when I listened to their debut song. I thought 8 yrs ago, BTS were babies 🤣 but Hip-hop. Literally the best Hip-hop song, I've listened. It had dance, Rap, Vocals, Acrobat, Bus, Eyeliner. Everything. I like the Concept where Yoongi raps, I want big house, big cars, big rings. I have so many big dreams and it it eventually grows to I have big house big cars big rings. I like the Growth throughout the years which is very evident as they write their own songs and build their own path to success. BTS is undoubtedly The Best Group and Soloist. It's a Fact. I just can't stop talking about them. They have Biggest and most Loyal fandom for a reason. I appreciate you making this video and getting the message out their. Borahae 💜. I'm waiting for 2025. The world will be on Fire 🔥.

I feel like so many armys have the same story of discovering BTS, thinking that the rest of kpop must be equally amazing, checking it out and realizing BTS is the exception and not the norm. I know that’s exactly what happened to me. I wasn’t on stan social media or involved with any kpop discourse, it was just me and KZbin and my completely uninfluenced reactions to other groups and songs. And…they just flat out weren’t as good! (And a not insubstantial amount was straight-up garbage but we don’t need to get too detailed there). Not to mention I’m in my 40s and have been a music fan and an amateur musician my whole life and have listened to a vast variety of artists and genres. I feel like I know a little something about music! So when I say that discovering BTS’s discography as a music fan was like discovering a gourmet feast or a vault of literal treasure, that is the background I’m coming from. I think it really says something that BTS is rare among kpop groups in terms of being just as dominant in audio streaming as they are on KZbin…ARMYS GENUINELY LIKE LISTENING TO THEIR MUSIC. And no kpop fan who wants to argue that BTS is overrated has ever explained to my satisfaction why the “overrated” group has somehow managed to become the biggest group in the world, with a bigger fandom than basically the entire rest of kpop combined, with new fans still joining us every day, most of whom are, like me, plain old GP music fans from outside the kpop bubble. Like…do they want to claim we’re all brainwashed or on drugs? Do they genuinely think this is some kind of mass delusion or ingenious marketing strategy? Or can we just accept the simple explanation: that a lot of people discover BTS and go “holy shit…they’re amazing” and then look at other artists and go “hmmmm…not quite as amazing.” This is not rocket science!

Bravo you sound like myself I've been in the music industry from the age 15years and I'm not spring chicken now and I've always loved a wide variety of Music genre's. So finding BTS by accident was like finding a gold mine in an unexpected place. I then went looking at kpop as a whole and was very disappointed ok old songs stuck out odd dance performance stuck out but that was it. Odd vocals sounds good, odd melodies and beats were ok some were nice but the overall it was mahhhhhh nothing much to see here really. Maybe if BTS hadn't existed and I found one of those that was ok or quite good I might have stayed around a bit longer in the kpop world but deep down I know I would have been bored very quickly and simply closed the door and walked away. Even know I dip my toes back into the waters of Kpop but when you've had the best you only want the best.

This is how I feel exactly. BTS are the standard. Because of them, I've deliberately exposed myself to tons of eastern and western music. I've found lots of new things that I love and enjoy -- and more things I'm never going to like or be interested in. But BTS remains in a class by itself. It doesn't diminish anybody else to say that. I thought bts was just another poppy boy band, and then I fell down the rabbit hole and here I am. I’ve never been so devoted to anyone before, it’s crazy. I don’t expect everyone to love them, but I expect everyone to respect them. Unfortunately that’s not the case and all the fanwars in comment sections drive me crazy. I’m a mature adult and I don’t want to get involved in these stupid arguments but oh do I wish someone would put those silly people in their place. Thank you for making this video. It was very brave of you because I’m sure you’re going to get a lot of negative comments from it. I wish I can get my friends into bts as well, but they refuse to give them a chance. They would only play girl groups on tv during gatherings and they would discuss their looks and body while I’m suffering from the singing and lack of performance value. But the moment I put on bts, they go do their own thing. Sometimes I sneak a few of their songs when I’m just playing Spotify on my speakers and I notice they bob and vibe to their music. But that’s all I can get. Scared to even tell them it’s bts coz they’ll instantly reject it. The Struggles of being Army

Well said! I also fell in love with BTS in 2019. Out of curiosity, I've been watching all the other groups' music since, but they all (without getting into the details) pretty much seem to sound the same, looked the same and behaved the same. I also had a very hard time telling them from each other because they were all too similar in everything (being Korean myself it didn't make a difference). Nothing about them really stands out like BTS does. I think the best and the simplest way to explain it is that each of the members are strong and unique and they become even more when they come together as a group.

"It's easy to say that I only think BTS is the best because I don't know many kpop groups. [...] But I consider BTS as the best because *I know* all of these kpop groups, as well as western boybands." This is exactly it. I share this belief 100%. It's the foundation of my confidence in my ARMY identity. I've been listening to kpop since 2008; SHINee was the first group I got into, and I still really like them a lot. But when BTS came along, they captivated me in a way that no other artist (kpop, western, or otherwise) EVER has. They're my forever artists, and I will love them until I die. You my dear are a freaking genius. You managed to sum up what I have been trying to say for the longest. Like you I have listened to or tried to listen to other groups and they just don’t have it. No matter what group male or female close your eyes they all sound a like. Open your eyes they all try to outdo another group with dumb antics. BTS are true talent and miracle if you will. They are not afraid to think outside the box not with stupidity but with creativity. Yes they are THE BEST whether others want to admit it or not. I feel angry when they try to put other groups on the same level with BTS. I wish they would stop trying to compare or put other groups in the same category. BTS are the best because they truly truly love what they are doing and are not trying to measure up to or pass someone else. They are just being the best at being themselves. Everything they do is unique to them, they set the standards and others just can’t reach them. There is only 1 BTS💜💜🥰

Thanks for this video and expressing your thoughts. BTS are amazing. I have listened to various musicians for decades and there are many I like. BTS is the only group where I will buy their music every single time. I know every album is going to be great, thoughtful, provocative and charming. There will be no skips. Once I found out about BTS in 2019, I consumed their content and then thought I could just go to another group and do the same. No. I always come back to BTS. There are groups or solo artists that I enjoy a song or two but BTS always draws me back. They are amazing. After watching the behind the scenes, documentaries, reading books, and more, I know I stan artists who value giving me my money’s worth and then some. I remember going to a concert of another artist and they were drunk on stage. Another artist didn’t practice and forgot their lyrics. Some can’t be bothered to start the concert on time. BTS cares about ARMY and will always show themselves in the best light possible. I think June 2025 will be magical. With the growth they are undergoing with their solo projects and the military, they are going to rock ARMY’s minds when they comeback. It will be the hunger games to get tickets for their concerts. Every online concert they do, I will be there. I have never been disappointed. I never will be with BTS.

I really love how well you articulate and explain this. Because yes, the industry does have a major problem of trying it's best in copying success, rather than finding their way to succeed. Art can't be manifactured if you want authenticity. And authenticity is what connects the artists with their art, the art with the listener and creates honest art, honest success. If you ask me honest success is the best success Rly enjoy your vids, amazing information and critics

I completely agree, in my subjective opinion BTS is authentic, they take their artistic work very seriously. And their driving force is certainly not fame, but self-fulfillment and continuous improvement in their field and broadening their creative horizons.
@adriana8210 ай бұрын
coming from a metal/rock background I totally agree with you. When I first realized that a song I was obsessing over for month was one from BTS, I thought to myself that I'm been closed-minded for dismissing K-Pop. And I was, in some (many) ways. But in reality what I discovered is that in a sea of K-Pop bands, BTS is the only one that is consistently GOOD. There are many that have good, maybe great songs, but they are almost like "one hit wonders". There's also something that many don't understand: caring about your art and growing as an artist is always visible in the end-result. The message and care is always felt and it always comes across as genuine. Probably this is why I see many metal-heads becoming hard-core ARMYs, because in a strange way, BTS is one of the most metal non-metal band out there.

Love this essay as usual ! I think BTS has worked so hard for so long that they've achieved a level of mastery and of expertise in singing, dancing, writing, producing, performing etc. that no artist can catch up to them anymore, especially as they are still giving their 200% to create and enhance their art. We can already feel the gap between their performances and other artists and I would argue that this gap is just going to get bigger with time.

The thing that eventually made BTS my ult music act of all time, was their musicality. For a long time I had the notion that k-pop was mostly about the visuals and that music oddly came in second, and for me that just wasn't it. When comparing how the songs are written and produced, they really stand a cut above the rest. It needs to be reiterated; BTS are musicians first and foremost, and it shows. Now, as said before, there is no shame in loving a group for their visual aspect or for other factors less connected with the music itself. If something makes you happy and inspired, you don't need to defend yourself or explain it to anyone else. But what impresses me most about BTS is that they produce awesome music and are fun to watch in variety shows. They produce awesome music and look gorgeous on magazine covers and photo shoots for their brand ambassador deals. They produce awesome music and they dance like a well-oiled machine. Looking through the lens of growth, it all becomes even clearer. Jin might not ever be the best dancer on his own, but j-hope sure is, and that the fact that Jin works so hard that he doesn't stand out and keeps up with the group is nothing short of awe-inspiring. (I'm still not over the acrobatics he pulled off in Anpanman!) Suga might be one of the most introverted idols there ever was, but just look at him doing a captivating solo tour, and being the sweetest interviewer and host ever in Suchwita. Or why not take him and RM and how much they have worked on their vocals, both obviously being terrific rappers, but not the best singers. But they both have proven that one does not need to be born with an amazing singing voice like Jungkook's, you can definitely practice and get better. For me this is the key to their success. Music comes first and foremost, they do not become complacent, but rather polish their weak spots in order to become better artists overall, and they do not take this success for granted. Fame and ego should have crushed them, or at least made them less pleasant as people. Yet somehow all seven of them have kept a cool head on their shoulders and they all are humbly aware of the fact that only hard work keeps the momentum going. They have taken idolhood into new territory, these men actually seem worthy of adoration and respect, and for so much more than superficial aspects.

I am also having a similar experience, two years ago you could ask me about all the popular kpop groups and their latest comebacks and I could go on in depth conversations with you. But since then I just can’t with these groups anymore. It’s a mix of saturation of mediocre music(imo) that keep coming out every 3 months or so, no real meaning/message or interesting well-rounded projects. So I’ve distanced myself from the "Kpop world" and only check out some artists occasionnaly. So yeah, I’ve been revesiting BTS’ old discographies and I really can’t wait for them to comeback because it’s been boring in these streets since they enlisted 😂 💜

I say this as a member of the original generation of kpop fans from the 90s, you've absolutely nailed it! I've seen all the groups come and go, BTS truly is the best. They're the most well-rounded. Yes there are other groups or members who also create their own work, but their songs are either still rather typical of kpop or just not approachable. Of the current active groups, BTS is pretty much the only group from kpop to take the long journey from bottom to top, much like the classic rock bands of the past.

I'm one of the millions who agree with your opinions about this. I also am not a fan of pop music in general, and tbh I do not love every BTS song (esp recent ones) but it does not affect my admiration and commitment to them as a group. I think it is hard to describe exactly why they are able to capture the loyalty of so many of us (all ages, genders, cultures) but for me it seems to be just who they are and what they are saying to us. We are lucky that they were willing and able to share so much with us through their content, it could not be easy to be on camera so much! But without all that, we would not know as much of who they are. Thank you for your videos!

This was a much needed video. Its been nearly 4 years since I got into bts and when I first got into them, I explored other groups too. I always say bts is a full package. You get everything you're looking for with them. Other groups, while I listen to quite a few and like a fair amount of their music, they have something lacking. Whether its good songs, music with a message, a unique connection with their fans or just a general lack of consistency, there's been no other group or artist both within and outside of k-pop that does what bts does for me. BTS makes me reflect on my own life and has helped me understand so many things that no other artist has even made me think about. BTS makes you fall in love with your life again, and i know I'm not the only one who feels this because so many armys find bts during their darkest days and bts has helped them find light in their lives again. No other group has been able to do that for many of us. That doesn't mean other artists are bad or not hard working or not talented. Good artists, good groups do exist, but bts is a once in a life time artist that has evoked an emotional response in their fans through their music and thats not something all artists can do.

I was personally in so much denial when I fist found my self looking for more BTS contents. I had never been interested in KPop (I'm South East Asian, all my friends at some points are fan of Gen 2 Idols, so I know KPop before I know BTS), and think that the whole industry is BS and based on 'pretty faces performing other people's music'. I don't consider myself the '15-year-old fan girl' since I was in Uni that time. How can I like and become fan of a mainstream boy group? Then I started thinking about why I'm listening to their music, and why I want to know more about their story. Their messages in their music is what got me, and I think of them as singers not idols. And then their dances, their music videos, their performance make them different from all other singers I'm listening to. Yes, the fact that they're multitalented artists make them different from all others, and let them become my favorite, and best group in my opinion.

And as soon as I clicked on CC and the message "Korean autogenerated" showed up... I closed the mv. October 2018! That's when I decided if music companies didn't care to give me CC of their artists, I wouldn't care for those artists as they didn't have a message to deliver. All smokes and mirrors. For me I kind of think of it like this: Most groups were taught how to fly a plane, then given a fancy plane with jet engines, a GPS and they get told their destination and they just zoom there no problem. BTS was trained on bicycles and taught how to drive a car then given a map, a busted up 2nd hand car and enough petrol only to make it to the first petrol station down the road. They weren't told where to go and had to learn to make money for gas, but they drove around meeting tons of fans along the way and slowly upgraded their car until found the jackpot and bought a jetplane then learned to fly it. Now they're not not best plane pilots, but they certainly are the best choice to go anywhere with because they're not just pilots.

I love your videos because they are not only informative but you express yourself extremely well. I am a 46 year old “baby” Army. BTS found me back in the summer of 2020. The first song I listened to was Dynamite and I thought it was catchy, I decided to look up more songs from this group and found Idol. I was hooked with this song; the lyrics, dance moves and all the colors from the MV took me for a spin. I was so shocked at how new and interesting this music was; after listening to Idol the next song on my BTS path was Spring Day and well, end of story. BTS was my introduction to Kpop and although I have listened to other groups and like them, nothing compares with my love and admiration for BTS, they are just the BEST. I admire their dedication, passion, talents, efforts and everything else that encompasses their uniqueness. I will forever be grateful to them as they gave me back my love for music which had been lost for more than 10 years.

The first song I listened to was black swan and was like “ who is this?” I like to see the character of the artist before I dive into their music and when I saw just how human and down to earth they were I then listened to their music. Their vocal growth, the uniqueness of each member and how it makes them unified with their different personalities. I grew up seeing groups disband because of individual interests which is disappointing and the fact that BTS were animate about staying together in spite of their individual activities made me admire them more. I also remember worrying about their growth knowing how much they loved music and when RM mentioned it at festa I was happy, happy because the artist they admire do that. They take time to make great music. That to me shows they care about their brand, their product with their fandom in mind but most importantly they want to continue to learn and grow to be the best they can be. Genuine BTS lovers who listen to and love BTS, I’ve found, have a deep love for music. I’ve noticed that those that love the members appreciate what they bring to the table. I appreciate all that you do. I learn a lot from your videos and I’m happy to find more of the same mindset on my views of BTS.

For someone who became a fan of them in 2019, you are well-versed in their history and work. I'm impressed. I've heard of kpop since 1st gen but was never interested. Truthfully, I always thought kpop had an outdated sound - similar to the Modern Talking and CC Catch music of my youth (German pop). It wasn't until 2020 when I finally gave BTS a chance and, boy, did I want to kick myself for dismissing them. After listening to BTS, I assumed kpop had evolved to be more modern and mainstream so I checked out a few other groups but no other clicked. Outside of their creativity, catchy tunes, good looks, and amazing dance skills, it's their message and lyrics that have solidified me as a forever fan. Plus, they're all just amazing and humble human beings. Prior to BTS, Coldplay was the only other group/band that I loved -- positive, uplifting, and full of love and compassion (like our boys). Brought tears to my eyes that Coldplay became their hyungs. I also think BTS is the best and have never loved or supported any musician as much as I do with them. Great video!

I experienced the same journey. I never was a boy band fan or a pop fan. I was into rock and blues until I saw Fake Love. I was hooked. Because I was a K-drama fan I wanted to check out K-pop. I looked into both boy groups and girl groups. Although I liked certain songs, most bored me except BTS. They were different. Their lyrics were profound, their message was positive, their rap line was genius, their album concepts weren’t superficial, their MVs were amazing. Then 4th Gen came along so I thought I should listen. To me, everything is over the top: the aggressive singing, acrobatic dance moves, the constant switch-ups in the music. It’s like they’re trying too hard. No go (for me!) so I realized that I’m not a K-pop fan at all. I’m a BTS fan. And I’m happy.

… and I thought my loyalty to BTS was due to my lack of knowledge about other groups. Like your experience, I tried watching and listening to other groups just to see if I was missing other great artists… and that was my way of giving others a fair chance… but then watching and hearing the first lines or moves and from other groups and I immediately see how ‘day-and-night’ the difference is… No other group can capture my attention for longer than seconds… It’s just my opinion but what I have seen from other groups seem to sound the same… so you are right, truly, BTS, in my opinion and observation, continues to go outside of the common, out of the trend… They keep exploring outside of their boundaries and so they keep discovering newer approaches… They truly are inspiring… I discovered them only after a couple of years watching Kdrama when I tried to listen to some OST that two members sang then noticed too many comments about a member and BTS… but it was not enough to get my attention… a year ago, I saw a post of my niece on social media showing her mother (my 65-year-old sister) looking happy watching a Korean band. I was in disbelief as my sister has never watched any concert in her life nor appreciated any other group except the Beatles when she was young… and was the star soloist at our church, and so to see her looking so happy watching a Korean boy band intrigued me that I started researching as I wondered: ‘who is this boy band that my 65-year-old sister would go out of her way to watch with her daughter who was in her 20’s? As I started reading article upon article about BTS… I had gotten lost into them as I have been watching only BTS videos and listening to their songs on Spotify every… single… day since then… They are truly the only group I ever listened to and watched with so much excitement even if I am simply watching the same videos and listening to to their songs over and over… BTW, with their over 300 songs in their discography, I could be listening to their songs and would never have time time to listen to other groups outside of them…. Thanks again, Boractiy for expressing what many ARMYs feel…

The same happened to me, I knew about BTS but I never paid attention to their music until last year. I started to listen to every song, individual albums, interviews, documentaries, and Run BTS. And I tried to listen to some other bands but it wasn't the same for me. It's complicated to explain but BTS finds you when you need it the most and maybe that's another reason. And of course, they are the best band, not just in the K-pop industry.

Bora, different than you, I used to listen to all kinds of music: classical, blues, jazz, soul, R&B, ballads, Latin, rock, funk, you name it. And also I listened even until now music in so many different languages, my favorite before BTS: French and Italian music, Greek too... Chinese also... And I still love all these types of music, rhythms and styles and languages. But BTS is special for me... Because they had been the only ones that have made me look into their lives and worlds and open up to have a personal relationship with them. They have been the only ones to make me care what they do, what they think and what they say, apart from their music. I see the humans, and they are amazing human beings. They have made me believe in humanity again. So yes, for that reason I also can say: they are the best. They make me do things I wouldn't do for anybody else. I am even training to run a marathon and I will do it for Jin and for RM 🎉 I love them so much and I can only wish them well. To be alive and happy and healthy. BTS is my whole inspiration in this whole planet. They are the best. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Since the hiatus started I have listened to a lot of different K-pop artists and found some new favourites but it's always "this" member or "this" song, or "that" choreo. No other group approaches BTS for the incredible range and solid quality of material and performances across their entire body of work. No one else compares with the BTS vocal line and rap line and their artistic creativity. They are endlessly inspiring and I agree with your comments 100%.

I loved Kpop way before BTS was on the scene and my first ever fandom was Shawol, that of Shinee. But, once BTS came on the scene I realized pretty quickly that they were not just singing empty songs about pretty girls and sexy boys. Their message spoke to me. They spoke of working hard in the already broken down system when the odds are stacked against you, but they still persevered and in term it helped me to go through a very hard period of my life. I love BTS! They truly are the best.

I had never seen that interview with Suga. Thanks for sharing it. I agree, BTS is the best. I don't really listen to anyone but them, but if or when I try to, the music just doesn't appeal to me. It feels shallow and hollow. 💜

So true... I love you Boracity... 💜🤟 I never got into the rabbit hole of any group or any celebrity like I did with BTS, without realising... And the funny part is it happened in my late 20s... Since 2010 I have been an avid fan of KDramas but K-pop never made me excited... Until I found BTS. I found them late because of my ignorance of course but I am so glad I did... They are the best no doubt... Not because I am an ARMY, but because they were capable of turning me into an ARMY when I never really felt passionate about any artist before them... 💜 Borahae...

I agree with the author of the film. BTS is a unique and best music band due to the versatile talent of individual members, from writing original song content, composing music, arranging dance choreography, great vocals, and the ability to play various instruments of individual members, such as piano, saxophone, and guitar. They are producers and directors of music videos. They host programs such as Suchwita hosted by Suga, which hosts outstanding artists. They are ambassadors of global fashion and sports brands, etc. They represent South Korea at global UN and UNICEF summits. They have excellent contact with their multi-million fans from all over the world." ARMY" I haven't found another band like this in my life so far.💜

I agree with everything here. I also think have have some good support people working with them - good producers (Pdogg, ElCapitxn and others) and choreographers, etc. No one is better at writing lyrics than RM, and the depth that he, Suga and J-Hope weave into their music while making it fun and accessible is unparalleled. I understand V and JK wanting to work with other people, but I think there were a couple of solo songs put out by JK that would have been greatly improved if RM had gotten ahold of the lyrics and put his spin on them (no shade - I really like Golden with the exception of a couple songs in their original form). Really looking forward to what they do as a group in 2025. I'm sure they will show their evolution as humans and artists.

@@maryr1905 Exactly, RM's lyrics are amazing and evoke a lot of emotions. After a two-year break and after returning from the army and what they experienced there, their work will be even more significant for humanity on the way to world peace.

I completely agree with you! And I even stopped watching a lot of social media because it makes me sad to know that they are not relaxing or working on their music or other things that they love,,, they are working hard at their duty! I'm more focused on music and making playlists with them and other artists that they made me look for or remember!

FACTS! BTS is the best! I tried other Kpop groups, some have good songs that I enjoy, but none hooked me. None give me all I want like BTS do, and I was so surprise when I discovered BTS at almost 40, surprised to receive more than I never expected from any groups I liked until then. They are the best, period. Thank you Bora!

I have been through so many eras, but BTS is the only group who can break me. They brought me back to kpop because I stopped listening to kpop during 2nd gen. Most of the time, I don't even know the names of the celebrities I watch. I don't know how they made me fall for them, but I will be supporting them forever.

i agree. i knew of bts, but i had no idea what kpop really was, that there was more to kpop and bts than their music. i never knew much about music, i never looked into artists or anything, i just heard their most popular music and thought "wow, this is good" and that was about it. in the end of 2020, i met a friend online through editing and she introduced me to kpop. her ult is TXT so i was introduced to them first. love them a lot! their music helped me a lot with my mental health at the time. i explored so many different kpop groups through this, my friend recommending me other groups she loved etc. no doubt, i loved every groups music, loved the artists in the groups etc. it wasn't long until i started seeing bts clips show on my reels, and i loved them! i remember thinking to myself "ah, so this is what bts is like outside of their music?" i remember liking a lot of their popular songs like dna, idol, fake love, house of cards, and much more that i would listen to frequently on osu or just simply going back to youtube to listen to them every few months because they were so catchy. in mid 2021, i eventually found myself exploring bts' discography, and man, was i in LOVE with it. they were so diverse, and i love all types of music so they really drew me in. i don't know how... but really, i couldn't stop myself from listening to bts, from exploring their contents outside of their music like run bts, bangtan bomb, etc etc. i had never been so invested in a group and wanting to know more about them, even after enjoying other groups music in the industry. i have honestly started listening to bts only now, i don't REALLY care for kpop as a whole anymore, even though i do enjoy kpop as a whole. bts really ARE the best, of course this is just my opinion, but they really are the best. there is a reason why they are one of the biggest boy bands in the entire world... and it's not because they aren't the best!

Thank you so much for making a great video. There is no group with a strong identity like BTS these days. If you look at the stages that covered the songs of senior singers when BTS was a rookie, you can see that they expressed their own colors well while also expressing the feeling of the original song really well. And what about the end of the year festival stage. Which K-pop singer has shown something new and phenomenal of their own like BTS. I just wait for 2025. BTW the comparison between Beyoncé and Adele was amazing.

I love your videos. I had a similar journey coming from rock and alternative music. I like to listen to other Kpop groups, but objectively, BTS are the best. It’s just a fact. You know it’s true by the way other idols talk about them.

Thank you for putting my feelings and experiences into words. I used to listen to music constantly when in my 20s, 30s and into my 40s , then gave it up for decades! My daughters introduced me to BTS and those 7 young men gave me back my love of music. I have tried to expand my listening to other groups and artists but only BTS have held my interest. 💜

Nothing but truth and facts! I irks me that Kpoppies assume we never listened to other Kpop groups music. I don't know where they get that assumption? I, personally, have listened to the other groups for research purposes because I was raised on music. I was raised to only have an opinion about music only if I have the knowledge of the persons or groups. I never comment about something I don't know about. That's a huge problem when it comes to BTS. People like to spew opinions about them, but know nothing about our boys. I don't know how many people I have debated with, inside and outside of social media, whenever they insulted BTS, only to know NOTHING about them. Nothing irks me more than people who don't know what they're talking about but have the audacity to have an opinion about BTS. Anywho, before I start ranting further, thank you so much for your videos. You are always on point with your analysis and I hope those who watch your videos gain a better understanding about BTS in the music industry.

I've seen some people say if BTS decides they don't want to make music anymore, they're done with K-pop, and I'm like that too. BTS had opened the "K-pop door" for me, allowing me to see another side of how music is consumed. It also showed me how consuming it is to be a "stan," and how fast music is not only produced but consumed as well. Like fast fashion, in some ways. After listening to BTS, I ventured to other groups because I am a music lover. The genre doesn't matter to me, if the music and message are good, I'll show up. I think that's where I realized K-pop values quantity more than quality. I still casually listen to lesser-known groups, and there'll be one or two songs from the well-known groups that stick with me, but for me, that's about it. BTS, for me, feels more wholesome, and in an industry that produces "idols" rapidly, BTS has become the best. I think the way they brand themselves has a hand in this too. They experiment not with the same beat, but with different genres, and it's not just aesthetics for them. It's their love for music, creating music, and connecting with other music lovers. That alone makes them the best.
