1. Yes, he was sued by a huge proportion of the people who appear in the movie 2. The participants were told this was a filming of a documentary about a russian (yes) immigrant, to explain the presence of a film crew, and signed releases agreeing not to sue no matter what happened. Most still sued. 3. Only 4 people are acting. Sacha, Ken Davitian who played Azamat, Pamela Anderson and the woman who plays the prostitute/wife Luelle 4. The reason most people seem to take a long time to crack is that from 450 hours of footage they picked only the very best "stooges" 5. The "hometown in Kazakhstan" is the supposedly poorest most remote village they could find in rural Romania. Those people were locals who were also told it was a documentary and occasionally given small directions ("hit the floor" or "pretend to kiss Borat") 6. Kazakhstan eventually realized banning the movie was counterproductive and embraced the joke. Their tourism slogan is now "Kazakhstan. Very nice." Really. 7. The people appearing in the film (other than the 4 actors) were not told. They all found out when the movie became HUGE and everyone was quoting it

so glad people are finally reacting to this, and especially that it's you two. i have never before or since had a movie theater experience to rival this. people were laughing louder than i'd ever heard, screaming, just pandemonium. wound up seeing it three times with different people, and the third time i thought my mom was gonna pass out from laughing so hard. i think for a minute it might have seemed a little dated to the mid 2000s - plus it was * so * popular that i think people got a bit burnt out on everyone quoting and referencing it constantly - but it very clearly holds up as an all-time comedy.

@@Don-ii4vm I'm sorry, but the scene you're referring to did not lead to the divorce of Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock. Anderson and Rock were married in July 2006 and divorced in November 2006. The movie "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," which includes a scene in which the character Borat kidnaps Anderson, was released in November 2006. Therefore, it is not possible for the movie to have caused the divorce, which had already taken place.

27:10 Out of all the face our brave reactors pulled during the film, this one by Simone has to be my favourite! The best example yet of a silent “Jesus, George!” Also, dammit Simone, actors are people too! 😁 As others have said, I’ve never heard people laughing as much as I heard them in the cinema while watching this movie. It was an incredible, unforgettable experience, and when the nekkid fighting started… wow wah wee waa! And yeah, legal fees must’ve been the biggest part of the movie’s budget. I think most of the suings came from people being embarrassed about the views they espoused on camera (especially the frat boys, if I remember correctly. Sure, they were clearly inebriated, but as they say, in vino veritas). While it was still in cinemas there were quite a few stories in the news about people bringing suit against the film, and that only made more people go and watch it!

as a romanian ,we didnt care . The movie was filmed in a gipsy village and the local population was told that they are filming a documentary ,but when the movie came out they saw themselves being called rapists ,prostitutes ,abortionist ,etc so some of them were angry ....but the new borat movie was filmed in the same place i think and they seemed fine ,so ...peace ?

Some humorless idiots might have been offended, sure, but as a Romanian, i didn't care, we're generally not touchy and overly sensitive like people in the west. I was "very excite" to see the movie and found it hilarious. The depiction of the gipsy village is accurate, though.

Also, the cover of Born to be Wild at the end credits is badass. Listened to that on repeat for a while. Thanks dudes.
