What a great way to raise border collies. I can tell that they really take to heart, the life of the dogs. So many are raised and just kenneled. They are such great dogs, mine is now 12 and was the best cow dog we ever had. I love them.

I do Border Collie Rescue in the Midwest and I love the breed, I've fostered and found good homes for 25 dogs so far, most were companion dogs but many that showed the aptitude and drive went to sheepherding or other work oriented owners. This video catches their spirit perfectly!

I've been raising/training borders since 1993. It's been awhile because we've moved twice, but now we're in Alaska. Your vid made me SO MUCH ready to start again. Great dogs!! If I had all that property, I would have 100 border collies! (But try to find a bed big enough for them will be trouble!)

I had a Border Collie for 11 years, I got her (Sally) when I was eleven and she died last year. She had either parasites or a brain tumor because she had terrible fits at age 10 and a half and would froth from the mouth it was very sad. When she was sick I used to sleep on the back deck with her all night and comfort her when she was fitting. I can't wait to get another BC when I finish Uni. They are very loving animals.

Nice clip of the pups and I have 2 yr old black/white as well as a blue merle 10 month old. Love the breed and my black and white loves to watch this video as well as most shows on Animal Planet. This lad watched the Westminster Kennel show here in the states for almost 3 hours straight, Our vet said he is one focused boy and I have to say very intelligent.

We have had a couple border collies but one in particular named shep was amazing. Even in the final years of his life (lived to 15) whenever we had a bull that wouldn't go in the corral or through a gate we could always count on shep. Also my papaw was trampled at the age of 85 (acts like he is 30) and one of our border collies saved his life.

The filming is wonderful! This film also is a great demonstration of the high energy and maintenance required of this breed. Border collies must have work and active play to be happy. If you don't like this kind of energy in your life, don't get a border collie! Forget quiet, contemplative, pastoral scenes...that just doesn't happen UNLESS you have lots of sheep, lots of time devoted to training, and years of livestock and dog handling experience. Thanks!

I've a border collie named Jake, and when my nieces were younger, they'd play in the yard, and Jake would make sure they stayed in the yard. Herding is in their blood. He would herd other dogs away from roads and stuff too. He's brilliant and a character.

I remember working on a farm during a summer break and riding the quad through the field - fast. The speedo showed 50mph, YES 50 MILES PER HOUR when I saw one of the collies named "ruude" running along side the quad. 50MPH - INCREDIBLE SPEED

There are actually three dogs involved and it was trick photography. First dog (Pearl) ran at the sheep. The second (Kassie) was great at jumping and landing on her hind feet. The third dog (Mossie) actually enjoyed being pulled along the grass while lying on her back, so they reversed the footage and angled it as though she was going in to tackle what was actually a stuffed sheep! Mossie loved it so much that in between takes, she lay on her back on the exact spot required for the next take!

My bordie collie had to be put to sleep...March it will b a yr. My Sadie...she was so smart...she would pull my daughter away from the fence in the back yard..by her diaper..and then sit in front of her so she wouldnt go to close..And she used to go w/ me when I trained horses. She would follow me everywhere,w/ those all knowing eyes..And she would always be next to my legs. God i miss her. She was my first baby..I'll never get another but a Border Collie..just cant find them anywhere.

Fantastic! Loved this! Dont get a BC unless you can spare LOTS of time to be out with them! Being confined is mental torture to them, and you really wouldnt like the consequences!

Some can be really dumb, the one dumb one I had was really, really abused, and was a rescue case. She had her own things she taught us, like how not to trust a dog to save your life from a cow! She made a good companion, though. Our current dog is not dumb. He is so smart that he gets out or work. We joke that he likes grain farming better than cattle, since he doesn't have to do anything with the grain. :)

Mel's doing famously! (In fact, she's recently reared more pups). She's easily my best sheepdog and I'd be lost without her. If you watch the DVD, the credits give the names of all the dogs and tell you what they're doing now. Dennis (Mel's pup in the DVD) went to a ranch in Northern NY State. His owner tells me he's dug a hole which is visible from the moon!

Every clip here is from the DVD movie. The preview is just over 6 mins, the movie on the DVD is around 73 mins (plus slideshow). The two dogs "biting each other's mouths" are just playing. They're not fighting and it's part of a longer, very funny sequence that was too long to include. The dog APPARENTLY knocking over a sheep is "trick photography" - for the Sega Advert. As for a story - well, it's more of a documentary but it certainly tells a story about happy Border Collies!

I'd suggest the dogs are relaxing most of the way through (after the initial work scenes). I lost count of the scenes with dogs lying down - and I don't see one dog that's not enjoying itself, do you? I'm glad you DO (in fact) like the music - but am I paranoid for thinking "nervous, nervous, nervous" meant you didn't like it? If anyone wonders why I don't normally reply to comments, this is a great example!

That's Pearl! She has one blue (wall) eye. Nothing wrong with it, Pearl's fully eye-tested and has perfect eyesight. Some of Pearl's pups have a blue eye too. I've just uploaded a much better trailer of our DVD - as soon as it's working, I'll add it here as a response (if I can). Either way, it'll be amongst my other videos. You'll get a much better view of Pearl on that one. Better still if you buy the DVD - there's a whole chapter on each of our main dogs - and an awful lot more!

Border Collies are great, but these dogs don't have enough attention, if they're so bored that they are dragging the water dish and fighting through panels . The puppies at 3:20 to 3:21 is sooo cute! Our dogs have always been better with cattle. They are too harsh for sheep, but can save lives when you're working with cattle. Border Collies are the best ! :)
