Border Crossing - Alexandroupolis to Kulata - Pt 4 - Serres to Kulata

Nearing the end of today’s journey through Greece, we pass through pleasant agricultural scenery to Strymonas, where we exchange locomotives before heading into the hills and the border crossing into Bulgaria for an overnight stay near Kulata from where our train will continue behind a steam locomotive to Dupnitsa the following day.

Hi Robert, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I wasn't sure about the mountains, so I looked it up - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Mountains - The map indicates it is the Rhodope and Pirin Mountains that are seen from the train. This Is the last part of this trip, but there are others listed here - kzbin.info/aero/PLPdTWbkwx85pbPN5nvNb3hAhReKKa7Qaj - I'm working on Slovakian cab rides at the moment. Tim.

This was another wonderful trip. Whenever I sit on a railway platform waiting for the next train, there always seems to be a cat or dog that comes up for a bit of attention. Those dogs looked very healthy and happy, clearly they were not just strays.

+Surinder Grewal This part of the trip, did not have spectacular mountain scenery, but was still very pleasant as our train passed a patchwork of colorful fields growing all kinds of crops, with the mountains ever present on the distant horizon. As I watched all the lorries queuing on the motorway to cross the border, I couldn't help noticing how little freight traveled by train. The motorway cuts a very visible scar through the landscape, whereas the railway blends in. I hope the European Union encourages more freight to go by train.
