One of the Biggest Legacies that the Late Daniel Owino Misiani left for the real world was The Call for Social Justice. When I say “Real World”, I mean the logical human world. I mean one (definately Not a "perfect human being")with morally conscious, emotionally humble, humane and above all responsible for both success and failures.
There is a parallel world today living side by side. Even though it is undeniable, I refuse to recognize it as an alternative. Sometime after evolution into modern man, a certain brutal character was born. This character goes by the name The C.E.O or Siyo meaning NOT in Swahili. “Siyo binadamu”!, not a human being!
This character walks into a premise with 200 employees for example. All the 200 are hard-working and tax paying law abiding citizens who just want to sell their services for a peanut of a wage in order to make both ends meet.
Mr. C.E.O comes in and tells the capital owners, “Look, currently your net revenue is US$100 Million/year. You’ve got 200 employees. I can double this revenue with just 25 employees. And don’t worry their salaries will remain the same only that they will have to “work(toil) harder”! Besides, their workers’ rights like paid leave, work-day bus fare allowances and paid sick-offs are “Communist benefits” from Cuba and Venezuela and must be scrapped off”. In my previous job, I used to earn about US$12,000/month. Since I’ll double your profits, I demand a US$45,000/month wage. Now It’s upon you to decide between the current revenue and my proposal.
Without a second thought, the Capital Owners heed the nefarious call to destroy humble families and widen more their superfluous profit hordes.
The C.E.O/Siyo then gets the exorbitant wages and a metal sculpture called “The most competent manager Trophy”! Plus a round metal coin known as a medal.
The destitute families, now without any source of income begs on the streets, turn to crime, drug abuse and even suicide.
This inhuman and brutal treatment of the peasant servants is disguised as “Capitalism” (I believe it is Perverse and Narcissistic and Nothing Capitalistic) while any form of socio-economic justice is discredited as “Communism”.
When I was young, the race to the top was a rush to win THE NOBEL PRIZE in any of the human advancement contributing fields. Currently, VANITY is the Order. The race to the top is to put a name in the FORBES Magazine. The useless Paper of the arrogant ego-inflated and empathy less characters, The C.E.O, ama Siyo?
Well, with that said, I retreat back to D.O Misiani. Owino belongs to the Select Group of Social Justice Crusaders like John Lennon, Bob Marley, Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King Jr, and Kwame Nkumah among others.
Interestingly, the wolves of the 20th Century Street demonized and denigrated these Crusaders and gave the title to some hopeless, fake and bogus Uncle Toms.
The late D.O Misiani was ordered jailed by all the 3 Kenyan former Presidents that lived during his time;
Jomo Kenyatta ordered Owino arrested and jailed when he recorded the song “Kalamindi in 1977,
Daniel Moi ordered Owino arrested and jailed when he recorded “Wangni to iringo” in 1981,
Mwai Kibaki ordered Owino arrested and jailed when he recorded “Bim en bim” in 2004.
If Owino was alive today, perhaps his fight for Social Justice would still lead him to jail by the current regime.
Socio-Economic Justice is the most valuable ornament that we should all adorn ourselves with.
It is pointless and even a waste to dress in those outfits, spend energy, resources and hours /days in those shrines, play those instruments and hail the names of your faith representatives whether you’re Muslim, Christian, Jew, Buddhist, Hinduist, Kardecist or any other form of belief if you dine on the same table with those who propagate and sustain Socio-Economic Injustice.
To the oppressed, you have a single obligation, Stand up for your rights!
