This is an experiential documentary about one woman's struggle with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). It features experts such as Marsha Linehan, who created DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and John Gunderson (who actually wrote the BPD diagnostic criteria), but is *by no means* a talking head documentary. It tries to get across what living with BPD might feel like for one person, rather than explain it from an external viewpoint.
This film is the reason the channel @BorderlinerNotes exists. After the film was done, we used the interview footage shot for the film to create an archive of informational videos on BPD and personality disorders in general, and now the channel has grown to include more experts and types of videos, including full-length therapy sessions.
----------- PRESS
"A feel-good movie true to its feel-bad subject." -BOSTON GLOBE
"[An] alternately piercing, maddening and riotously funny portrait..." -VILLAGE VOICE
"[Regina's] sharp, acid-tongued humor makes her a charismatic, if troubling presence..." -HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
"...an important, humanising portrait of a woman living with challenges that are rarely part of public discussion. The film is effective in drawing attention to what can be a seriously disabling problem. It's also entertaining, incisive and highly watchable." -EYE FOR FILM
----------- About the Film
The first time she tried to kill herself she was five years old. Now she is 45 and hell-bent on trying to live - most of the time.
She reacts on impulse, attacks, distracts, meditates, offers social commentary, trips over herself, laughs, judges, burns bridges, makes social gaffes, apologizes, loses her cool, philosophizes and remains dogged in her search for recovery.

I don't personally get the comments saying the trailer is offensive. It's a tough fucking disorder and the trailer clearly shows how hard it is on Regina, especially given folks reactions to her. I've always really appreciated that this channel never glamorized BPD like some others do. This was a great reminder I've been meaning to check out the doc for a while now!

@MAGA sheepherder Exactly! I was triggered when I first watched this a while ago because I know ive acted that way before and hurt people. We get defensive when we see stuff like this because it hurts, we still haven't healed so we don't take accountability for our own actions and blame others. Now that I'm healing I can see clearer and recognise that I've acted very badly to the people I love. Yes I have bpd but I need to be an adult and say to myself lisa you made these problems now you have to fix them. It really sucks having borderline. But it's not the illness fault, it's helped but It's my fault, but I know now that I have to work with my illness, figure out my triggers and go to therpy and take my bloody meds! to be a better person and have a better life. God it's a journey

Okay I've written a few comments to people but just wanted to put it out there. The people who made this film and starred in it are two of the great psychologists for bpd. Marsha M Lineham, creator!!!! Of DBT therpy and Peter Fonagy one of the creators that helped develop MBT therpy. They both have worked for years on BPD therpys. They both specialise in personality disorders. If it wasn't for these two people in the world we wouldn't know what we do today about bpd therpy. MASSIVE shout out. Everyone with bpd will have different experiences to the other. This doco doesn't cover everyone with bpd. This doco doesn't represent everyone with bpd. This doco shows what it's like for some people with bpd, to get people without bpd to get a better understanding of loved ones that might be dealing with similar triggers and behaviours. (This doco helped my mother alot as Its very similar to myself and shows she's not alone in this journey) If this doco or trailer offends you, why? At first it bothered me but only because I saw myself in her. It's bothered me that we were just seen as angry people. But that's negative thinking. Who was seeing me as angry? Do I know how other people reacted to this trailer who don't have bpd? It was easy for me to say oh people just see me as angry but its just not true. That's what my head wanted me to think. I've never had one person tell me I'm an angry person. I know people will get upset with what I've said but seriously. Analyse your thoughts! I'm not coming for you but alot of people angry are people with bpd and I get it! But they made this doco to try and help people. They didn't do it in a malicious way. And yes it might seem that way. All they want is money from us and pump us with pills. But no they don't. Marsha M lineham has so many resources for us online without having to pay anything. I'm just trying to tell you that these are the good guys. They really are trying to help. Please research these psychologists, look into dbt therapy because for soooo long nothing helped but I'm seeing the light finally. I'm 28 and was diagnosed 5 years ago but it's my life. I have to take accountability. No one's going to fix me but myself. Meds and therpy help yes but the only person that's going to help you is YOU and your healthy mind. I thank God for channels like this. Please research please watch because for some of us this doco is spit on and helps!!! We are all in this together. If you didn't find this doco helpful don't bash it. Don't get angry. Just constructive criticism. Change your negative thinking!!!!!! You CAN do it. Fight. Fight for your life like your hanging on an edge and you have to pull yourself up!!!

There's no medications for BPD. No meds are FDA approved the reason why Psy doctors prescribed them is to reduce the symptoms of anger, anxiety and mood swings etc, but none of them will get to the core of the problems for people like Regina, or countless other BPD people and most not all Psy doctors believe medications are the only solution to the problem because us BPD people will never change, nor get better, that's another reason

I'll definitely go check this out. Your channel was immensely helpful for me when I got my BPD diagnosis. It hurts me to see people upset at the trailer because I see myself so much in Regina. We have to be able to face the bad parts of ourselves when navigating life with BPD. It's been about 5 years since my diagnosis but about 8 years of me suspecting I had it and researching what my disorder entails. I used to STRONGLY meet all 9 criteria for BPD but now after A LOT of work and self reflection I meet about 4 or 5 of them and experience much milder symptoms. I want people to not be afraid of people like me and Regina who sometimes or a lot of the times are too much to handle. We can't just see disorders like this through a glorified lens or we'll never reach the milestones we need to reach.

Not all people who have borderline act like this. This issue is as wide spectrum as other disorders. And because there is a spectrum of symptoms, no one is identical. I think that stereotyping the disease does it a great disservice. Some people who have suffered from trauma, have this disorder. I have what is called gentle bipolar. I fight like hell to react normally to situations on a daily basis. I work hard to analyze any situation that occurs before during and after it happens to learn how to best respond in the future. Perhaps someone should interview me and make another film. I am just saying that it is a great disservice to sensationalize the extreme because it creates a stigma about the disease.

It's so offensive. One should not spread wrong info in any way about something they either have no idea about or just look at it in one direction. The entire trailer is about rage in BPD which barely happens and it's mostly self directed, not towards others. Instead of trying to make a bad look of mental illnesses and making others "borderline phobic", try to do something positive and make an actual documentary

Okay not coming for you but how was it offensive? Firstly, this was made and directed by someone with borderline personality disorder. Psychologist (forget their names) that created dbt therapy so definatley they have an idea about bpd! Secondly you say the trailer is based on rage that 'barley happens'. I have bpd and I can tell you that I've definatly acted that way. I thrown my ukulele at someone on the street, I've abused workers that didn't have my order ready in time. The explosive anger is very real for me. Just because you might not have this explosive anger, doesn't mean you can invalidate my actual experiences and those of many of us. Bpd is on a spectrum so everyone is going to have different experiences but what is shown in the doco is just an example of what someone might go through with bpd. This isn't a bad look at all. We need to show everything the good and the bad with mental health so we get a better understanding. I've never heard of borderline phobic? In all honesty I don't think that even exists if anything your talking about stigma and yes it's real but saying we're making people borderline phoic is crazy! Maybe those people who are borderline phobic need to be better educated and not rely on one doco to get all their information on bpd

I feel like this trailer could be taken as how toxic a borderline is. And immediately steer some borderlines away as borderline doesn’t always pop up like this and this I feel would make someone with borderline feel they are narcissistic. Yes I know narcissism has a high rate to be comorbid with BPD. But at the same time this shows that route of BPD. When quiet bpd is a thing. And rather than target other people such as it shows the woman in this video we heavily attack ourselves. If you updated the trailer to show the other ways bpd can rear its head and not make it seem like we are hateful people that just fuck everyone’s life up it’s have retained better comments solely on the trailer alone
