Amazing how much rust damage there was. With care that should last 80 or more years without fail. The big Cincinnati mill did a nice job on it.

I used to work in an engine shop. The sound of cast iron being machined brings me back. I still remember the sounds of shadows and cracks in cylinders. Thanks for the vid :0 great job

The right tool for the job!! About 25 years ago I bored a nearly identical Deere 620 block by bolting it to the cross slide of my 18" TOS lathe. Took a lot of shimming and tramming, but it worked well and the tractor still runs great.

The sound reminds me of the sounds inside the tunnel, of a M.R.I. machine. It could also be used to help fall asleep. Great video to start the day. Swish-Swish-Swish-Swish

Very nice job Brian. Probably better than new. I noticed that first cylinder was not cleaning all the way around on the roughing pass. Was the cylinder not straight? What RPM do these engines turn working? Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 👍🇺🇸👍
@jimurrata6785
@jimurrata6785 12 сағат бұрын
You could see where it WAS cleaning up below the ring wear. I'm no Deere expert but I imagine even with a long rod the piston is pushing on one side of the bore more than the other.

@@edsmachine93 I think 1200 is top rpm. I noticed that too but after the first pass I measured the thickness of the liner sticking out and it was pretty close to the same thickness all around. I figured who ever bored it the .045 was off a bit. The other cylinder didn’t seem to be off.

@bcbloc02 Thats exactly what I thought too Brian. I have dealt with crooked bores before also. Perpendicularity issues. Well the bores are straight now. Nice hone job also. Nice work Brian. 👍🇺🇸👍

Would have to mill around the outside with an endmill like it was done from the factory. At least that is how I would do it.

You found pistons to fit the bore job, or did you bore to fit the pistons?
@bcbloc02
@bcbloc02 8 сағат бұрын
@@frednewman2162 pistons were not ordered until I knew what bore it was going to take to clean it up. Then the standard available sized pistons were ordered and I size honed the bores to fit them.

What a shame, all of that work and it will still be missing (on) cylinders 3&4. Tee Hee. Have fun on one of those poppers, cut and re-index the cam, and put a different distributor on it and make it and even firing engine. I know it can be done and has been done.
@bcbloc02
@bcbloc02 3 сағат бұрын
I can’t imagine it being done as the engine would be extremely out of balance since you would have to have both the throws together for even fire . I am sure that unpleasant operating characteristics plus all the extra wear induced is why Deere went with the bang bang chooch chooch arrangement.

@@bcbloc02 The A that I know was done might have had some weights bolted onto the flywheel but I do remember and know the man (passed) and the man (passed) who when told by the mechanic/machinist/genius that the tractor could be made even firing. He said "Go ahead" and it was done. Old Vergil farmed with that tractor till the newer tractors came out. He bought a 5020 when they came out. I got a laugh when he said that the tractor had 3 directions. Forward, backward, and down (as in stuck).

The HBM is proving to be an important psrt of your shop. It's too bad they don't make a hobby version of them. I think I might get one if they did (BTW, "THEY" is that big international organization that runs everything). I was wondering, when are the John Deere Police are going to come and shut you down😫😫?
