Hello everyone, it's Saiko here.
Thank you for finding me!
I've lived in Japan for 23 years, and while I'm grateful for many things, I've always felt a sense of emptiness lingering somewhere within.
Yes,I acknowledge the perspective questioning what one might be saying while living in a peaceful developed country.
For the first time, I decided to capture my daily life on camera and take a step back to observe it from an outsider's perspective.
What I found was a mixture of unbearable boredom and emptiness, yet also moments of beauty.
Moreover, I discovered plenty of things I wanted to say to my helpless self.
My English is clumsy, and despite being a beginner in video editing, thank you for watching!
Comments from around the world are greatly appreciated!

That feeling of emptiness is something I've lived with for a long time. I used to think it would go away. I used to think I could fill it up, with relationships or with food. Sometimes I could escape it for a while with books or games or videos. But I've realised exactly what you said -- I can't fill it up by receiving, or taking, or consuming. I have to give, and care, and have an open heart for people around me. That's very hard. Like you said, it's difficult to live without the fear of being hurt, especially if you've experienced that a lot in the past. But I think it's the only way to make the emptiness really go away. この動画をありがとう。You think deeply and quietly, and I look forward to keeping up on your thoughts through your channel. All of us out here in the wide world wish good things for you!👍

Like you said, the grass is always greener on the other side. I wish the streets of Vietnam weren't so busy and noisy all the time, and it's always uncomfortably hot. I love how quiet and orderly everything is in Japan, and all the different seasons you guys get. I plan to retire there eventually someday... Thanks for showing us your point of view. Hi Saiko. I'll share my tomato meat sauce recipe (for spaghetti). You need: peeled, whole tomatoes (1 can), 250g ground beef, garlic (as much as you want, I like a lot!), 1 small onion, white mushrooms, sliced (optional), oregano, 100% orange juice (yes really). Dice the garlic and onions. Saute them in a pot with a little cooking oil. When they're clear, add the ground beef - stir it and break it up - and cook together until the meat is browned a little (don't let it burn!),Add the tomatoes, then simmer. When it's starting to bubble, add the mushrooms and stir in. Add the oregano. If it's too thick you can add a little water. Cover and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. Just before you're going to eat, add a splash of orange juice. It tastes even better on the next day!

I love how honest your video is! I watched a lot of videos made by japanese people (because I learn japanese since a year) and some videos are so polished up! Everything is perfectly tidied up, clean and everything is nicely arranged and everyone is happy. Sometimes I felt a bit bad after those videos because my flat is not so tidy and my life is not that perfect. To see a normal person, living her normal life, is refreshing. I wish you all the best and greetings from Germany from someone who feels a bit empty too (but no boredome - got too many interests and hobbys :D).

Your vlogs stand out from all the other videos about Japan, cause your showing about the reality in Japan and how you are currently struggle to fit into the japanese society. When you know that in Japan is not common to speak openly about your feeling, your vlogs reaching a deepness that other content creators from Japan cannot reach 👍👍 BTW I started to watch your latest videos but when I compare your english from this video with the latest ones, its impressive how your english skills improved in such a short time. I have to say, it's so refreshing to see a vlog like yours, and your language skills are brilliant! I'm Australian but I used to live in Japan, so it's sort of my other home. I know what's great about it, and I know what's not so great about it, and I can understand why it can be so hard to maintain a sense of purpose and to be forever optimistic. I think it's great that you're reaching such a wide audience with videos about a life that isn't fake, so I look forward to seeing more in the future. Also this is of course easier to say than to do, but try to ignore the expectations of others- many of them are doing 'the right thing' in accordance with what society dictates, but they may be unhappy and unfulfilled too!

Thank you for the very kind and meaningful comment from Australia! It got me thinking. Oh You used to live in Japan.I think Australia and Japan have several contrasting points (multiculturalism, diversity, etc.), so you must have experienced both the good and the bad. Yeah, you're right. My biggest problem is not being able to set goals and stick to them without wavering. I want to work on resolving it gradually without being influenced by others. So far so good! Keep up the good work. I like the idea that you’re having an honest conversation with yourself and sharing it on KZbin shows your confidence and real struggle of how Japanese people are caught between being Japanese and absorbing ideas from outside Japan about lifestyle and meaning in modern society. There’s so many things the younger generations see but cannot speak about. It’s pretty brave of you to be so open. It’s very unique to see you make such an effort and is greatly appreciated. I’ll subscribe and encourage you to continue this exploration. But please! Do not put ketchup in your pasta! It’s like not taking off your shoes at a guests house! 😂 Be strong. And keep going. You might discover something new in yourself. Good luck!

4:20 is how baby girls look like waking up from a nap haha cute.... it is natural for humans to want/ need connection (regardless of staying away from experiences that were unpleasant).. the great thing with your videos is that it's connecting with others, even though it can not replace the authenticity of in-real life experience. Watching makes us feel & empathise with what you present & we can all relate to a certain degree with the struggles and challenges of life.. it is a shared experience =). If I would have lived my life in Japan in a pretty similar fashion I have here in the Netherlands, I think I would be in a terrible spot right now. The societal pressure would be too much for me to bear I think. I needed a really long time to find a spot I was comfortable with in life and feel truly blessed that I am in a position where this was an option. In my estimation, in Japan I feel like you get little time to decide or to doubt, because everybody needs to contribute as soon as possible. So I really do empathize with people who can pick themselves up and carry on, how hard it might be.

First of all, your video is what KZbin used to be all about, and you made me wish it still was. So thank you for that. Second of all, I think these feelings are really common with people in their twenties (I'm guessing your age, sorry if I'm way off). I think some of it will pass naturally, although it's not normal to cry every single morning, and I would talk to your doctor about that. I know mental healthcare isn't the best in Japan but you might be surprised by how much it helps just to talk to someone who takes that type of thing seriously and recognizes it as an issue. Lastly, I would encourage you to keep sharing as much as you're comfortable with, because others in your position will see this and feel less alone. What you're doing is more important than you might think.

My recent visit to Japan filled me with an uncommon sense of peace. However, I was only visiting, which is nothing like truly living there. As I once wrote in a short story, _The grass seems greener on the other side of the fence, but once you get there, you still have to tend the weeds_ Life is still life, no matter which side you are on. So, thank you for sharing your experiences. They are honest and heartfelt. They have a deep truth, something that is so rare these days. Greatest success to you and please continue sharing your experiences. You are an inspiration.

You know Saiko-chan, you remind me of Akari-chan (her youtube channel is aNcari Room) who was lost like you and she wandered alone to Vietnam, picked up the language and eventually even got a supporting role in a Vietnam film. Since you like Southeast Asia and your English is fairly good, you could really consider teaching Japanese & English in Vietnam.. I think you might find what you want there... if I remember correctly, Akari-chan is from Osaka too.

I will be your 87th comment on this video! I've been to Japan three times, visiting from England. It's easy to view Japan as an idealised society. But one can see that the people there face tremendous pressure and long work days. It's refreshing to see someone giving us an honest portrayal of life aside from what is usually seen. Unremarkable is sometimes beautiful. I have a small English speaking tip for you. We would not say "It is so nice weather." We would say "It is SUCH nice weather." or "The weather is so nice." But your English is great. That's just to help it flow a little easier. :)

Instead of films to combat feelings of loneliness I watch video channels like yours made by the public, who I think do a better job than TV. I agree good food also works, and bargains are great. In my Faith Jesus is my constant companion, and I can always pray, but it is natural for gregarious people to crave human contact. The Japanese have taken on board many foreign foods, like coffee, chocolate and I find exploring foreign foods combats loneliness. I am exploring Ramens at the moment.

I suppose your videos had no choice but to end up in my algorithm. I'm glad they did because I understand this feeling. I'm 39, and my life long dream has been to go to Japan. I have been learning the language. But much like what you describe, I have always been a person who prefers to operate alone for now. It would be nice to have someone to go with. But that is not my biggest issue. The past few years has been loss after loss for me. The lost of my Aniki. the loss of my mother's health. The loss of my job and apartment. I was doing well financially before the economy of America was destroyed by our current president. It's difficult to even find a job again. But my hope is that one day I can visit your beautiful country. I'm tired of feeling empty as well. But I am also beginning to feel that it is my norm. PS: If your mornings are still a little tough, try them with some music on in the background.

I live in California and average rent prices are like $1500 for a unit like that. A lot of people including me still live with their parents as an adult to save more money. I really hope you form connections with people. I don't know if you're similar to me, but I think life is less empty if you have people in your life to share it with. I wish I lived there so I could be your friend as you're obviously a nice person deserving of love and warmth. Also thank you so much for putting your cooking and recipe. I really want to cook different stuff, but have very little motivation to do so. That fried chicken and sushi look so good!! And you make such healthy meals! I eat so much fast food :( I wish I lived somewhere that's a mix of American freedom and Japanese respectfulness. I also really dislike where I live. Also you say to stop blaming others for your own problems, but you also have to understand that your environment plays the biggest role in how we operate. I started seeing a therapist 2 months ago, and he doesn't like how much I blame myself. I don't like how you're blaming yourself either. You need empathetic people in your life. Also I do enjoy your broken English. I can barely speak anything other than English, so don't feel down on yourself. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for watching. And for your kind comment. Seriously, California rent is crazier than I imagined. It made me realize how grateful I should be for my own environment. Yes, I think you're right. I need connections with people. Just by you commenting like this, I feel quite fulfilled. So, thank you so much. I want to change little by little towards a better direction.
