The way Borg moved on the court has never been matched. His rolling gait and super-cool shoulder hunch are legend. Never been matched

Björn Borg was the reason I started playing tennis. Thanks for all the wonderful memories watching you play. And thanks for your autograph from 1979, when I was ten... still have it in a safe place, even though I am 47 years old now ;-)

Yesterday rivals, and now gentlemen that laugh and share great moments together. A pleasure to watch them together Wilander, McEnroe, Lendl, Borg, chatting and remembering those unforgettable battles in the court.

I was so happy Borg ended up winning 1980! I was/am such a great Borg fan. Boy, was I broken in 1981…. So good to see they are so close now.

He made tennis cool. He was a rock star. When he played Mcenroe, Connors it was like watching NFL today everyone watched. He was bigger than the game.

Trust me not everyone watches nfl. In fact outside of the usa nobody gives a damn about the nfl and would struggle to name a single player. Nfl means nothing outside of usa... but tennis was and still is a globally popular game

He looks better at 60 than most guys do at 40. He and McEnroe were polar opposites, but Mac realized just how good he was and that he couldn’t intimidate him on court.

BORG IS THE GREATEST EVER!!! I grew up in Hickville aka Startown NC, and no one watched or knew anything about Tennis really and I'd talk about Borg and they thought I was loopy.

Every time I had the chance to see Borg play either JC or Mac I did. What a great time to be a tennis player myself, it was great seeing these guys play and man could they play. Boris Becker, Ivan Lindl and the list goes on.

Tennis was better when Borg, Connors and McEnroe played because points had to be constructed. Nowadays, with the rackets, you can just hit winners from the baseline. The subtlety of the game has gone. Tennis is boring now.

Alan Chong I know its late you reply but now that you mention it its true. It had more physicality back then but you cant say its boring now. The winners they hit now are very entertaining

Hard to believe that Bjorn Borg will turn 66-years old this year! Where has the time gone?! He will always be, in my mind, the cool-looking champion with the headband, the taped right thumb and taped knuckles on his left hand ( to prevent blisters after his sad experience losing the 1978 U.S. Open final to Connors because of the deep thumb blister he developed in the semifinal match against Gerulaitis), the guy who dropped to his knees after winning the last 4 of his five consecutive Wimbledon titles, and the guy with the most beautifully artistic two-handed backhand ever seen (not to mention that gorgeously fluid first serve)!

Not sure this is accurate or not but it might have been the first year that the Wimbledon final (1980) was shown live in the United States. But, the special Fire and Ice has a short segment when the NBC announcer says, “there is the Emperor Bjorn walking to Centre Court. It was cool. These two men really elevated the play of tennis in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s. And, they were the most exciting to watch on television. Bjorn and I were born on the same day - And wear 6 June, 1956. Thanks Bjorn and John for an amazing run.

The first Wimbledon men's singles final ever broadcast live to the USA from Britain was the 1979 final between Roscoe Tanner and Bjorn Borg which Borg won in 5 sets.

What I loved about Bjorg is the way he would dive for a play. Shots that seemed impossible to return he would leap, fly, roll, and impossibly return them. It's almost like he could teleport across the baseline.

@ El Bruce. The best way I can describe Borg's incredible foot speed and movement on the court is that he would swoop to the ball. He seemed to be able to run from the ad court side to the deuce court side in the smallest number of steps possible! Arthur Ashe once said that Borg was the fastest player he ever played against.

Borg and mcenroe have that what if factor. 11 majors for borg by age 26. 7 majors for John at age 25. Connors doesn't have that mystery to him. He retired at 40 and has 8 Majors.

Didn’t William Renshaw also win 5 or more in a row?
@davidmarcanosalcedo6158

Borg wasn't the first player in history to win 5 Wimbledon titles in a row like the video mistakenly says. The british William Renshaw stablished the all-time record by winning 6 Wimbledon titles in a row (1881-1886). People have to be sure of what they say before affirming it. Bad job.
@105darker
@105darker 8 жыл бұрын
That Renshaw dude probably played 6 Wimbledon matches over those 6 years,so I don't think you can compare that to what Borg or Federer acomplished.
@davidmarcanosalcedo6158
@davidmarcanosalcedo6158 8 жыл бұрын
***** We aren't making a comparison here. We're verifying if the statement of the video is true or false. And it's false, because he wasn't the first in history to do so. There was someone before him who did, and that person even had a bigger run (6).
@105darker
@105darker 8 жыл бұрын
Still,he only won six matches to win six trophies.Borg won one more than that to win just one Wimbledon :D So Borg won five in a row in a tournament format that we know today.When Renshaw played Wimbledon was much different and easier to defend that's way you have "challenge round" written wherever you look for William Renshaw and that is why people probably don't give him credit.
@davidmarcanosalcedo6158
@davidmarcanosalcedo6158 8 жыл бұрын
***** No. He won 12 matches to win those six titles (in order to win the first title he had to go through the complete draw; only the defending champion was given a free pass to the Challenge Round, which means that he was skipped from the draw, and played only in that match, which was the final stage; in that way, they made the status of ''reigning champion'' special). Again, we aren't making a comparison. We are verifying if a statement in the video is true or false. Confirm facts.

Official tennis records restarted in the open in the early seventies with advent of the open era.prior to that it was very much an amateur gentle mans Game with no or very little prize money.which would have been far less competitive.i do understand your point though.
