From these accounts looks like our country was on the path to greatness...regular top players in a elite sport coming to play in Kolkata. Also, Bengal on the same path. Somewhere in the last 50 years our efforts became less focused. Look at us overall and nothing to say about Bengal.

Ramanathan krishnan is still the greatest singles player from india. Beating rod laver and Roy Emerson in their heydays are pretty impressive. He still holds the best record in Wimbledon for an Indian singles player. It is really unfortunate that he is not in the tennis hall of frame. I guess he belongs to the wrong religion…

Most painful thing is we don't have a single tennis player like him. Most of the tennis players they focus on doubles.

Indians are not physically strong enough to go against western countries! Getting hurt is the biggest problem

No. Many of us still cherish those years from 1965 to 1985. But the era ended with Ramesh

Tennis is all but ignored in india. Cricket is the only thing that gets financed. Very good players with potential don’t have the access to funding for international coaches, trainers and support staff and so these players will eventually give up or become coaches.

Vijay Amruth Raj also semifinalist in Wimbledon tennis tournament 🤔

@@mohanmakli5791 Vijay Amritraj's best performance in Wimbeldon Men's Singles was reaching the Quarter finals in 1973 and 1981. He however reached the semifinals in doubles.

Yes, you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned competition! There are 195 nations on our planet, only 10 to 12 countries play Cricket and we are wasting our time, money and energy behind this sports thinking as if there is some serious achievement in doing well in Cricket!!
