Finally a fact-based introspection of this unfortunate incident! Thanks to the journalist for asking better questions. She really 'listened' to her guest without trying to extrapolate with hypotheses that would result in increased viewership at the cost of bringing up the facts. What I liked the most from the guest was-- first step, "ask the support staff what happened exactly", before next steps. IMHO, unless they have better trained support staff available, they should consider training the support staff better right now (not 2 months before next event). Weight management is NOT Art anymore, it is a well established Science. The problem was in the ASSUMPTION of the support staff that the Athlete would gain only 1.5 Kg after Day 1 with nutrition they had planned for that day. Clearly they were not prepared for the worst case scenario of 2.7 Kg gain. BTW, There is a silver lining to this unfortunate incident! After all the herculean efforts the Athlete put in to lose weight without any nutrition, even if she had made it to the Final, she would have most likely lost. In that scenario, almost all would have been happy to celebrate her Silver medal and these issues of 'support staff training' would have never come up for public scrutiny.

The girl in the photo is Shivani Pawar. You might not have seen her before because she wasn’t sitting at Jantar Mantar, nor was she covered by the media. This 26-year-old is a Head Constable in the BSF. Shivani is also a farmer's daughter, hailing from a small village called Umred in MP. Shivani is also a wrestler. Three years ago, at the Under-23 World Wrestling Championships, she won a silver medal in the 50 kg weight category. In the same event, Anju won a bronze. Shivani was the first Indian wrestler to win a medal in this competition. She has also won a gold medal in the World Police Sports Championships and a bronze in the Asian Wrestling Championships. Shivani is a promising wrestler with a bright future. But why didn’t she make it to the Paris Olympics? In March, a trial competition was held in Patiala. In this competition, Vinesh Phogat lost to Anju in her usual 53 kg category. This is the same Anju mentioned earlier. After losing in her regular 53 kg category, Vinesh insisted on competing in the 50 kg trial as well. Under pressure, the officials gave her permission. (Perhaps they feared accusations of rape or sexual harassment, or maybe they were threatened with the Jantar Mantar protests.) Vinesh won the 50 kg category. It would have been easier for a 53 kg wrestler to win in the 50 kg category. In the final round, Vinesh won 10-6, meaning the opponent was definitely not weak. That opponent was Shivani. If Vinesh hadn’t competed in the 50 kg trial, Shivani would have won the qualifying round and been selected for the Olympics. But after losing in the 53 kg category, Vinesh intruded into the 50 kg category. In fact, Vinesh wanted to be sent to the Olympics without participating in the trials. The association did not accept this unreasonable demand. Vinesh was determined to go to the Olympics, and she had the backing of the opposition. So, she entered the 50 kg category. Vinesh’s intrusion into 50 kg cost Shivani her chance. Even though Vinesh secured a spot in the Olympics through injustice, it was difficult for a 53 kg wrestler to maintain the 50 kg weight category for two consecutive days. Eventually, the truth came out on the weighing scale. Vinesh was disqualified in the 50 kg category because it wasn’t her original weight category. In Paris, there was no Jantar Mantar, nor were there Hindi journalists. Naturally, Vinesh had to accept her disqualification. In this entire episode, Shivani was wronged. Shivani is also Indian. If she had gone to the Olympics and won a medal, that medal would have been credited to India. Those who shout slogans like "Bharat ki Beti" (India’s daughter) will never speak up for Shivani because they won’t get a paycheck for it, nor will they get a chance to criticize Modi. There is no sorrow over Vinesh’s disqualification because she entered through deceit. The sorrow is for the lost medal for India, and the nation’s honor being compromised. The deeper sorrow is for the injustice done to a young athlete in the dirty politics of elite athletes. And those lamenting Vinesh’s disqualification are not sad because India lost a medal; they are upset because they lost an opportunity to target Modi. Isn’t Shivani a female athlete? Or is she not Indian? Doesn’t she have the right to fair opportunities? Vinesh did not enter the fray with a clean slate and deservedly so got disqualified. However, in the bargain she has not only undone herself but also unfairly deprived a deserving wrestler from contesting. A thorough probe is a must. With such dirty politicking, India certainly cannot expect to have worthy medal winners.

My point is why you play border line game. If you want to compete in 50 kg, weight should be around 48 kg max all the time in practice and games, because suppose will kick up max 2 or 2.5 kg then chance to reduce it. The original sin was politicisation of wrestling by Hooda junior , and his desire to be the president of WFI at all costs. And some of the Haryana wrestlers becoming part of this conspiracy . Vinesh ,Sakshi, Bajrang . That they could stoop so low as to level sexual harrasment charges reminds us of Sushil Kumar and some other lesser known Haryana ex-boxers and wrestlers who took to criminal activities later on . The selection process should be as per international norms . Brig Bhushan tried his level best to bring in a level playing field in the selection process, but the Haryana lobby with full support of opposition politicians and a gleeful media which thrives on tragedy , put paid to his efforts . The so called trials at Patiala by the unauthorised adhoc committee , with grudging acceptance and surrender by a brow beaten federation has deprived the country of 3-4 Olympic medals . Vinesh had been fighting in 53 Kg category , that too after much weight reduction . Maintaining 50 Kg was always going to be a challenge . We had an outstanding wrestler in Shivani Panwar of MP in 50 Kg category . She should have gone to Paris . Even if Vinesh had weighed less than 50 Kg in the morning,she should have been weighed again if she was allowed to fight in this lower category . Vinesh did lot of hungama , in the period of delay by about 4 hours she would have gained 2-3 Kgs , even with such weight advantage , she was on the losing side till refree intervened to give her an advantage . Shivani Panwar has been done in by a vocal Haryana lobby , she is the one actually deserving 4 Crores compensation . Not this cheater Vinesh .

Last comments about 6 fourth place finishes is warranted but needs a context. Every track and field has 8 or more people competing in the final race or final event. Besides the winners the other contestants placed 4th place to 8th usually come from the medal winning countries namely China, US, UK, GBR, Germany, Netherlands, East Europeans, Canada, Australia, and few other countries. Interesting to see if the medal producing countries also jave most top 8 finishers

2016 vinesh was disqualified bcoz she was overweight now same thing .she is supposed to be in 53 category but she fought in 5O kg category risk was there second time this is happening first 2016 and now
