Bro is comparing different dissolve transitions frame by frame, which I admire. This attention to details and perfectionnisme are the qualities of a real professional. Although most people won’t even notice, you set the bar really high in this industry.

Please never change. “Pay it forward” is not a part of the industry ethos, unless people like you encourage that perspective shift. We don’t have the means to start that like you do, but we’re grateful to see you go above and beyond to actively encourage better industry practices. Seriously. Never change. Edit: had to think of different words for change, said it 4 times and it made me think too hard about how the word sounded

Taran, I am very appreciative of this video. I know you've spent months on it and it's really underperforming, but I want you to know that your work here is appreciated and respected, and I've learned many things about video editing that I hadn't initially thought of, such as editing to make the viewer's eye move as naturally as possible. I hope the low view count doesn't discourage you, and keep up the good work to help us amateur editors out there. Thank you.

your segment at 0:19:59 about cross dissolving multiple layers had me shouting at my screen "thank you!" ive noticed this exact problem years ago when making my own videos and once i had fixed it, i couldn't stop but notice when anybody else had the same problem and hit publish.... i wish i had a megaphone to tell everybody in the world to avoid this problem, but here you are to tell the masses. thank you lol

The ONLY thing missing on this side is you. If you ever joined us the dark side, or have thoughts on it, I could listen to those thoughts for about 4 hours and 20 minutes, too. :)

Thanks for not having music in your videos. It lets me keep them on in the background while editing, learning things along the way! I don’t even use Premiere, I use Resolve, but it’s still very informative from a theoretical POV.
@LWMphoto
@LWMphoto 19 күн бұрын
This video is such a fantastic resource for "when to use what transition"/"how to vary your transitions"! As a resolve user, though, it hurts to watch you having to suffer through so many workarounds and third party packs to bypass the built-in limitations. I haven't examined Resolve's transitions anywhere near as in depth as you have Premiere's, but from my experience with Resolve the built in transitions are MUCH more flexible, adjustable and useful (and effect based transitions function just like transitions and can be adjusted in detail in the program too... or just built from scratch) It really feels like resolve makes so many premiere plugins totally obsolete

I used to be heaps active in the KZbin Poop community from 2015-2018, and from 2016 and onwards, there was an explosion of people using cracks of BCC, Sapphire, Red Giant Universe and HitFIlm plugins on Vegas Pro, with all their effects and plugins, including myself. So seeing some of these transitions and effects from some of those plugin packs was really nostalgic haha

Hey Taran I 've used paint splatter on few of my edits for my clients that are tattoo artists! It works since it sometimes gets messy or its ad for tattoo ink. I've used some of my own footage and some of stock watery drippy splatters for 8-12 frames (30 fps) with track matte key. Also thank you for this great 4 hours that made my holidays less boring! 26:32 As an After Effects professional, I have the same gripe. A billion hugely important things to still fix, and the team spends time on extra stuff nobody asks for... Instead of making AE a bad and limited 3D application, fix and improve the animation bits, which is what made the software hugely popular.

1:39:00 You totally should have done that. I have a collection of links of YT videos that I currate for people who want to get into video stuff and it is way easier to link to lots of smaller videos than a long one. Also, it is so much better for discovery. People will search for transitions, you will have a bigger area of exposure. There is also a lower barrier of entry. People will watch 1-2 short videos and might go trough all of them, but seing a 4 hour video, not many will want to sit down and watch it through. So yes, please slice them up.

13:59 I would argue transition fatigue still applies to cuts, we've all seen those vlogs from people who do a small cut every 2 seconds during talking to remove even tiny gaps, and how incredibly irritating that can get after too long... (Though tbf I don't think this would be solved using a different transition, just less of them lol)

2:08:06 a lot of transition plugins double as vfx packs (usually vise versa, cuz transition is like an animated effect), so they probably just left all the controls untouched, cuz you will definitely need finer control when creating effects.

Also, in response to the Mr horse section, it taking forever to import them on longer timelines is genuinely an Adobe issue; as I'm sure you're aware the longer a timeline gets (and subsequently the more edit points a timeline has) the more and more premiere starts to crumble apart (ever tried to paste anything in a 3h timeline that has 4+ lav tracks the entire time....) - Newer versions of prem aren't /as/ bad but are generally still incredibly unstable. My best understanding of what's going on (and this is mostly just a guess based off some super rudimentary tinkering with cep) is just that the longer a timeline gets the longer premiere takes to do certain tasks in the background because it has to iterate through everything else in the timeline which results in tonnes of slowdown and the reason this makes Mr horse slow down is bc the way they work is by importing a premiere sequence in the background, then copying it, refocusing your original timeline, then pasting - all of which takes FOREVER when premiere has hit the point that it's falling apart. If you're using a v24 version of prem this issue is likely even worse as the further along 24 got the worse its timeline performance became with stuff like this. On 1h+ timelines (again with multiple lav tracks which makes a huge difference) I saw a massive improvement importing mister horse stuff between the final (at the time) version of 24 and the initial 25.0 release. premiere crumbling the more edit points are in a sequence is my biggest gripe with the software and I've tried incredibly hard over the last few years to get anyone up the chain to care about it because it's gotten HORRIBLE over the last 3-4 years but any attempts I've made eventually just lead to getting ghosted. Again, 25.0+ has been.. better.. but it's not perfect and has also had some other really obtuse workflow breaking bugs that adobe doesn't care enough to do a 25.0.x bug fix release for which baffles me to no end, how is not being able to import sequences for almost 2 months acceptable adobe?? or how are edit points being practically invisible on minimised track Heights in 25.1 not a big enough issue to drop a hotfix for??? drives me crazy.

Wow, i've finally come across a video from a Nebula creator that genuinely feels incomplete in the KZbin cut. I feel like there's multiple instances about an hour in and onwards where you reference something for the first time as if you've referenced it in an earlier/alternate version of the edit. There's intentional instances of this (Being in the FilmImpact beta) but then there's other offhand comments that seem like walking into a room and catching a conversation mid sentence (Mentioning dislikeing "Bunch-O-Layers" transitions for the first time in about 45 minutes as if you've talked about it in every section prior) This is a nitpick of the highest order, but given this is an editing tutorial, seeing/hearing what seems like editing/scripting mistakes feels jarring. It certainly feels more jarring than FOMO enticing.
@TaranVH
@TaranVH 20 күн бұрын
Interesting! The things you mention are actually just as "jarring" in the nebula cut. The issue was revisions I made as I actually did the screen capture and realized some stuff was wrong and needed to be re written. Was hard to keep track of what I had and hadn't established yet, as so many things are interconnected. I could have fixed those issues too, but perfect is the enemy of done!
