I have a 9-5 Office Job that's 100% remote.... It's honestly the best thing to have ever happened to me in my career. I do my work. Sometimes get done early. Some days I'll have 1 hour worth of work and the rest is just downtime that I still get paid for. In the spring, I'm taking a cross country amtrak ride just for the heck of it. I'll have my work laptop on the train. I'll be traveling to different states for fun. I'm able to just work from anywhere as long as I got wifi. It's nice when you don't wanna use up all your PTO. The mundane nature of the work itself takes the stress factor out. And If I need to, I can always pursue a creative outlet, I can always do that on the side.

Just because it's not physically in an office, doesn't make any difference in the context of this video. My work is the same type of work that is done in a physical office setting. Same mundane work. Same predictable schedule. The only difference is I also have the added bonus of working from anywhere in the world (provided I work on the HQs time zone).

They say they don’t want my cubicle life that gave them their stable comfortable childhood. These kids don’t know. We took them to Disneyland, England New York and Africa. I did that at a grocery store deli for 5 years. Open, close, close, close, open, day off, open, open, close, open. I ended up developing insomnia from that and was awake for 33 hours one day. I swear i aged like 5 extra years. But now i work in the mail department at an insurance company, it's boring, i can watch KZbin and music while working, its nice, i also get insurance too and its 8-4 Monday through Friday. I'd say start looking as soon as possible.

im 29, been doing that my entire working life so far. It's deadly. I hit the lowest low of my life last year and decided to quit, take some time off, and learn to code. Now im in classes for web development and hoping it will result in that 9-5 work from home position. Your only option is to save up (if you can) and take the time to try and shift in to that other work style. I'm not saying its easy or sometimes even possible. I just personally was falling apart and had to do whatever I can to change things. Good luck friend.

Extremely good video man!! I’m a mechanical drafter and working 9-5 is not only usually way easier than most think but it also gives you the opportunity to save extra $$ to use to invest and create other sources of income. The consistency of a work schedule is also so much better than having to check a constantly changing schedule that requires you to switch shifts with someone. One of the biggest lies that was pushed on me when I was younger was that 9-5 office jobs weren’t cool.

Here I am now, I have retirement savings, vacations, sick leave, pension, insurance, etc. I am not wealthy but have a comfortable life. Is my job boring, HELL YES!! I totally get where you’re coming from, but I think it’s important to know that the real answer is UNIONS! I don’t think working a 9-5 is the answer to all happiness, but it’s definitely closer to a happy life than retail and food service BECAUSE of unions. Unions are what guarantee things like being off work on weekends, living wage, paid sick leave, maternity leave, paid vacation, paid holiday, etc. My union went on strike last year and got me a pay raise while I was taking the summer off to finish school. Unions are amazing and they are what gets us a more balanced life that is less about work and more about living life the way you want to do. GO UNIONS!!!

Working 9-5 in tech is the best. I'm not a technical person; I’m an implementation consultant, which pays well. The best part is that you can work independently, and it's entirely remote. Sometimes I can complete my work in about one or two hours. I enjoy my downtime very much as I can get a lot done in my day. However, I’ve been thinking about over- employment because why not. I can find another child doing the same thing I’m doing now, and make bank.

I'm a geriatric aging millennial, and I remember feeling this. It's really all the same. I remember how badly I wanted to just make $35,000 a year in an office. When I finally got that first job $38,700 a year after retail jobs and college, with benefits, I was super happy. I thought I'd never own a house, but then the market crashed, and prices went back down again. I don't know if things go in waves or not, I recognize things suck so much right now, but I felit exactly this way a little over 15 years ago.

Trust me - Being stuck in the same building, sitting down all day, having to take lunch at the same time everyday and god forbid you’re a minute late, emails and phone calls that make your anxiety levels so high, having health insurance that SUCKS, being crucified for making a mistake but nothing when you do your job correctly. So trust me, being in an office isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Oh and the pay ain’t all that great just bc you work in an air conditioned building.

I came across your videos and I have a boring 9-5. I forgot how privileged I am. Yes, it is boring, but I feel safe. Keep your head up! I joined a meet-up group in March for coding. I met so many friends already and it was super awkward at first. But a lot of newbie coders like me who are non-traditional. Your other video made me so sad because I have been there. It honestly sucks but you gotta dig yourself out and change your environment. Get yourself out there no matter how awkward it is at first. I did a coding class during Covid, even though it was online, I made a few friends that I still message. You can do cc classes in something that interests you. Try to go in person so you get out there. I hope you enjoy your holidays!

I think it all depends on the 9-5 job you have really because I had an office job before which became really stressful sitting at my desk all day. If this is the case, I would just work from home. I feel more comfortable working from home except now there is no one around I can chat to about anything so that’s a different problem.

It's not that nobody wants to work, or that nobody wants to experience stress, they just don't want to feel unfulfilled over putting the time and energy into productive output. I'm personally the biggest advocate for working smart, I believe it's the only substitute for hard work, but what we don't realize is that we can apply this strategy from outside the box

I work at the hospital now, but I have worked at retail and restaurant and I rather work where I’m working now than those two. Yeah, management could be better, but I do have great benefits and I have money to pay my bills or for whatever else I need. I work (some) weekends and holidays, but it’s split so everyone can have a holiday off. I rather be average than a celebrity any day because those folks get no privacy and can’t do what they want with their money.

You are making valid points, but you forget people have many other jobs that are not in retail or restaurants and could pay well. Certain factory workers, truck drivers, people with actual skills such us plumbers, cops and many others.

I am at risk of homelessness as a 26 y/o college student and I pray every day for a 9-5 job. I WISH I had to deal with a boring office job rather than working multiple jobs or gigs to make ends meet and struggle making $400 work for two weeks. I have no PTO and no health insurance. Just had an accident and now I’m $2300 in medical debt on top of student debt. It’s terrible. I cannot remember the last time I had weekends or holidays off. I have no money to hang with friends or go on vacation. I’ve been doing it for 10 years now.. Use my story as your motivation. I’d rather be in an office and have the option to do remote work then be in the trades. It sucks am a subcontractor so no pension, no paid leave and I could get let go of at any moment plus travelling around to different sites can be a pain especially if it London. Am going back to study something else as I have zero passion for my current job only did it as it was what I was told to do. Am thinking of going into Computing. If you can get a job with local or bigger government you’re sorted. Great pension and paid leave plus am stuck just being a tradesman I feel like everyone else I know is moving up the career ladder getting promoted and let say if I stayed in my current job all I could do it train to get gas qualified yeah more money but god it’s boring. And that would kinda be my cap on levelling up.

Hola! Regarding office jobs things are not the same in all the countries so it depends on many things when it comes to benefits. I have done many jobs in life from sales assistant to office employee and now cashier and more in a retail store. I resonate with the jobs in this area. I work shifts, paid per hour and it's 6 days a week 1 day to rest. Sometimes I can work more hours to cover someone day off. When I worked in the office it was better with stable hours but the environment was super toxic. The best is as you say to learn new skills in order to become freelancer and have time for your own. I hear what you're saying and dig your videos, but I think this mainly applies to government jobs and high paying tech jobs. A lot of 9-5s are basically 8-6 or expected unpaid overtime and a ton of companies arent even offering benefits these days. Even if they are, the salary is so low at 40-55k, you can't even afford to contribute to your 401k or IRA if you wanted. Add long commutes and toxic company culture and you're mentally drained by the time you get home the same as retail or labor, except your boss is also contacting you at all hours even when you're not there. That being said, if you're making 75k a year or more, with a good work environment and company culture, albeit boring, I largely agree with you that you're lucky.

I don't know about other countries, but the typical 9-5 here in the US is a prison. First off, the traffic is gridlocked, going to work and getting out. Second, all the normies go to the same places after five. That's why you see Walmart, Restaurants, and Supermarkets filled with people. Third, because most doctors and dental offices are closed on weekends and don't work evening hours, you pretty much need to use personal time to get a checkup or to have a cleaning done (unless their office is within walking distance from your work where you could go on your lunch break.) The same goes if you're having work done on your car or maintenance on your home (oil burner, generator, etc.). Since COVID my local dealership's service department has been closed on weekends, no oil change, or tire rotation. So I either need to drop it off and burden someone else to pick me up and drop me off, or I need to burn a day to get my vehicle serviced. It's stupid. I can't speak for remote work, as I've never had a remote job. I have seen remote job postings that required applicants to live in the same state as where the company does business.
