Dude, it's awesome to see a real workshop solving real problems instead of the surgical rooms with shiny tools. The algorithm got it right this time -- this is what I want.

Yup its 3/4" too so it works for the drawbar, the tramming bolts, the vice, and the toolpost on the lathe right next to it. I use the hell out of that thing.

There has been boring head accessories, extension bars etc... to do just what you did for as nearly as long as they have been using milling machines as a boring tool. A company called Chandler built and sold heads that had a long slide with a T-slot adjustable tool position on their heads. But most of their heads were really made for larger, heavier machines than a Bridgeport so don't really apply here. However what you are doing here is very cool and most interesting is you made it from the stuff you had in the shop. I do quite of bit of boring of welded bores and turning of pins as you have done here with my Bridgeport and I find that taking the time to grind off as many lumps and bumps from the weld before hand as you can makes for a smoother experience and easier on tooling. As far as ideas for the future, Find a 3" Criterion style boring head or a #2 Bridgeport head they have a bit more mass which will help. Experiment with some different tool grinds, or styles of boring bar. Think old school here, using boring bars that hold square or round tool bits. Cuts are light and do not require big tool bits. Those tool bits can be made from M-42 HSS or brazed and solid carbides if you have the ability grind them to a fine almost polished finish. Use cutting oil or other lubrication to help with surface finish. In conclusion, If a commercially available solution is not available, unaffordable or simply not economical for the task at hand. I have long maintained the idea that a person who is willing to build their own tools and/or do some experimenting with tool grinds when they have to solve a machining problem will be farther ahead and more successful than one who will not. Well done sir.

I appreciate your thorough and experienced comment! I'm keeping an eye out for a #2 BP boring head. Im going to research the chandler heads for some inspiration too. I appreciate the kind words and thanks for watching!

Way to think outside the box, as you said wouldn't recommend it but you gotta do what you gotta do in a pinch . Love it bro , keep the beer cans empty and the chips a flying, just be careful about flying the chips In the beer can😂😂

That was interesting. The boring adaptor works great, made on the cheap. There's nothing to improve it, really, you've nailed it. Only the indexable tipped tool like you mentioned.

Solid solution for the problem. I have done the same thing in the past. You can get a larger boring head so you don't need the adapter. Feeds and speeds adjustment with some cutting oil would solve your vibration issue.
