Part of the reason this clip is so impactful is that for years, David played the sort of hapless, can’t get a date, uptight bachelor. Lots of jokes of that nature on early WILTY episodes. What we didn’t know, is that he had already met Victoria, fallen completely in love with her, but she broke it off because she knew it was the wrong time in her life for a serious relationship (and she had met someone else). He unwillingly pined for her for THREE YEARS, trying to date and move on, but it didn’t work. Then they got back together, are now married, and have kids. They are both brilliant, lovely people and it’s extremely easy to root for their happiness. So even a little spat between them is rather jarring, thus the gasps and slack jawed reactions when he read the card.

The show has been going for around 15 years, David and Lee Mack are the team captains, and are on every week. The other two team members change every week. They are usually other comedians, but can be actors, like Charles Dance, sports people like cricketer Phil Tufnell (you should recognise that name Nick) or broadcasting legends like Sir David Attenborough. The US has tried copying the format, but the contestants try too hard to win, and the comedy suffers. Next clip should probably be, Lee Mack vs The Mitchells, from the same episode.

_Would I Lie To You_ is fairly simple... though I'll endeavour to make it as complicated as I can! 🤣 Each contestant has provided the producers with a number of actual anecdotes (hopefully fairly obscure and unbelievable ones). Once on the show the producers provide cards with brief summaries of anecdotes, they could be the anecdotes provided or totally made up ones. The contestant chosen to read out the anecdote doesn't know if it's one of their own, or a totally made up one...until they see it. No one else knows either. Points are awarded to the opposite team for correctly guessing that the anecdote was true or false...the upshot being that for the reader, they need to make any false anecdote _seem_ plausible and any true anecdote _seem_ implausible. Without making it obvious!

This is the most addictive show ever. All the contestants don't know any of the things that they're going to say but the producers have asked some of the contestants beforehand about life stories which they then use for the show. WILTY is the funniest show and once you really get to know the format and the two team captains and Rob Brydon you'll fall in love with them. Great Reaction! Lastly, this is not so much about who wins but more for the comedy ,no one really cares about points.

On the ‘now many books being read’ , I read mainly historical and autobiographical books, and can find that I have 4 or 5 books on the go, because if, in an autobiography the individual references an event, or individual, I may well dig out that person’s autobiography and read their perspective of the same event

I thought everyone knew about this Programme. If you start watching compilations the great thing about it is once the Host asks the other Team if the story they heard was True or Not, you pause the video and give your own opinion then restart the video to see if you were right.

I've played this game in a get together. Make up a bunch of outrageous lies and put them on cards. Then hand them out randomly. Tell each player they can either tell a true story about themselves, they don't think anyone will believe, or they tell the lie that is on the card that you made up. They can't make up their own lie - This keeps the game honest. Give everyone a chance to ask 1 question, and then everyone has to pick if they think it is true or not. Keep score or not, go round as many times as you want. Enjoy! Fun playing when you get tired of cards against humanity, and a little less scary than truth or dare.

Bob Mortimer is on another level when on as a guest - you need to pause just before the reveal and give your opinion regardless of how bizarre - there is also a section where a guest comes in and three stories are given as to how the celebrity guest knows the guest (who says nothing until the reveal) one is the truth and 2 are lies - that can also have fun results

The contestant are interviewed by researchers a couple of months before recording the show so that, even if they are given a card with a truth on it they are not necessarily prepared to talk about it. They don’t get any notice of they Lie cards, therefore, they have to make it up on the spot. They used to do a round that was a “fact” about a well known person but that seems to have fallen out of favour with them concentrating on the Truth/Lie card round and the This Is My round. It is unusual for a panel show as it is one of the rare shows where guests just turn up with no rehearsal or preparation, apart from the researcher interview well in advance of recording. I also heard Richard Osman, on a podcast, saying that he has produced WILTY and said that they sometimes had to insert a very slight delay before some of Lee Mack’s off the cuff comments because in real time they sounded too quick to be plausibly unscripted and they were indeed unscripted and genuinely spontaneous.

You NEED to to react to more would I lie to you or WILTY for short as it is a goldmine of hilarious British comedians, Bob mortimer is the funniest by far, but others like claudia winkleman, james Acaster, Greg Davies and Henning Wehn (pronounced Vain). Also clips of the captains Lee Mack as he is so quick witted, and David Mitchell's hysterical rants. There is so much content to react to. If you haven't also seen it, eight out of 10 cats (with Jimmy carr) and the spin off, eight out of cats does countdown. You see the best of British humour and there is soon much to react to if your audience loves British humour.

Lee's remark about a card company was because David Mitchell wrote a book which included his relationship with Victoria, it was very honest and unashamedly romantic. It also explains the panels comments about being invested in the Mitchells' relationship.

He describes falling in love with her at first sight and yearning for her for a few years and feeling miserable till he finaly won her heart in one of his monolgues that here on youtube somewhere. The format is there are 5 or 6 individual rounds like this and once per programme a Member Of The Public comes on and all 3 members in one team(they alternate weekly) say they know this person and the other team has to get which one of the opposition really DOES know the guest.. The 3 regulars are always David Mitchell and Lee Mack( a very popular English Comedian) and the Host: Rob Brydon( from about the 4th series) who is another comedian. A compilation of Bob Mortimer's appearances as a Guest Panellist would be ideal. The other 4 weekly players are celebrities each week.

And it's always fun for viewers or reviewers... To have a guess as to whether or not a story might be true... There are certain guests that are incredible at playing the game... The King is the wonderful Bob Mortimer... And the Queen is the lovely Claudia Winkleman... Some of the shows are absolute classics... There's a US version of WILTY, it's nowhere near as good as the English one though. I watched 1 episode with Richard Kind, it was ok but Americans just haven't got the same wit, it's very tame. And the set looks like the storage room in a warehouse. Maybe it was a budget thing because they didn't know if it would be successful, if it gets a season 2 the set might change.
