The number 1, that was jonty Rhodes in 1992, the father of modern day fielding. And that run out is the most legendary runout of all time. That is where it all began, the Fielding revolution to reach where it is today.

Nick, you do get many run outs in First Class & Test matches. Sometimes there has been a ton of pressure from the bowling team and a batsman will either just run to get off strike, or try and force something to make the scoreboard tick over. It's not as common as in ODI or T20, but it still happens quite often. You have to remember that there is much more mental and physical fatigue in Test, so you do get some bad decision making.

Jonty Rhode's Runout inspired many players to fall in love with fielding and become specialist fielders. The headlines the next day in an Australian newspaper said: 'Is it a bird, Is it a plane. Its Jonty Rhodes!!!' 😂

Great to see you guys still loving on the cricket. Just a small technical thing on your commentary. Nick, in number 3 on the vid, the fielder was at short leg, not silly point. If he was on the opposite side of the pitch, he'd be at silly point. Or if it was a left handed batsman, he'd be at silly point. Keep up the great work!

For a good laugh I agree with those requesting Inzamam-Ul-Haq. The realisation that Steve Waugh's loss of partners to run-outs was worse than Inzamam gave fuel to Shane Warne's recent claim that his former captain played selfish cricket, until further analysis revealed that most of them weren't Waugh's fault. I don't think the same can be said for Inzy. Robelinda2 also does a great vid on Graeme Wood titled "Worst Teammate in Cricket History". The consistently brilliant fielding skills of Ricky Ponting by Robelinda2 goes for just over 50 minutes titled "The Best Fielder in Cricket History. Undisputable Genius."

#2 was in tests - South Africa vs Australia. Temba Bavuma was the fielder. They traditional calls are YES, NO, WAIT. Sometimes the batters will call all three at one time. There was a run out in the Pakistan - Australia series in the UAE. In the second test the Pakistanis were pounding Australia, the batter played the ball down to third man, and both batters assumed it was going for 4. So they went to the middle of the wicket and had a chat. The ball stopped short, was retrieved and thrown in to the 'keeper who completed the run out.

Sir Vivian Richards ran out 3 batters with direct hits in the first World Cup Final in 1975. He is easily the best run out fielder I have seen, he never seemed to miss and his pace over 10 yards was ridiculous so he'd swoop and throw and it was over before you knew what had happened.

Lol. I remember as a kid, we often played 'hit and run' for fun during lunch break at school. There were no teams, just every man for himself. Like baseball, the rule was if you hit it, you had to run. That way, everyone usually got to bat before the end of lunch time. (Also, if you didn't like the kid you were batting with, you could get him run out pretty easy.) Ah, the good ol' days...

Generally when you see a list of "Top Ten... 20...etc" of "All Time... Last Decade.. History" etc, it actually means top out of whatever the person could get their hands on. In reality, no video of most top/best plays/incidents/records actually exist. Like the immortal 175* by Kapil Dev vs Zimbawe in 1983 ODI world Cup. The match between two underdog laggards was supposed to be so inconsequential that no tv channel bothered to record it even for highlight reel, let alone live telecast.

Besides Yes---No---Wait---, non striking batsman calls for balls hit behind the wicket, striking bat calls for balls hit in front of wicket. Nick is right. They call however many runs as they cross each other. A hare runner takes into account his tortoise runner partner. Good runners change the hand they hold the bat in (shorter distance) and turn facing to where the ball is hit. They don't turn blind and run round their bat.

The guy Rhodes run out is Inzamam from Pakistan. He held the record for most run outs. I don't know if he still holds it or not but he'll always be the supreme leader of the run-out army. He was super lazy and just didn't want to run. One time Wasim Akram had reached his end and he didn't even start running. 😂 Wasim narrated this story on national TV.

There was not MS Dhoni run out against Bangladesh on last ball of the match which India won by just 1 run due to 3 wickets on last 3 balls of the match and the third one was just so breath-taking when MS Dhoni kept the ball in his hands and overrun the batsman with the pads was much amazing than jonty Rhodes bcz he had son much belief on his running that neither he throwed the ball nor dived.

Sorry, but how on earth can there be a “best run out” video, and not have an example from either Ponting, Border or Richards ? Viv Richards got 3 run outs in a WC final in 1975 (see link), Allan Border was known for having the deadliest arm in the 80’s from mid wicket and while Jonty Rhodes is often cited as the ‘best fielder’ of all time by fans, many many experts say Ponting was a better fielder because he hit the stumps and got many more run outs than Jonty ever did. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIDOg6SOZbF8Y6M
