My favourite era of tennis. 1970s-1999. Loved the tennis fashion with the collared shirts and short shorts. Serve and volley tennis. Connors, Borg, McEnroe, Lendl, Becker, Edberg and so many others.

Lendl made it to 19 GS finals. His record in those matches was 8-11. I was a diehard Lendl fan growing up, and I always felt that his nerves got the best of him on many occasions in those finals matches. I wanted him to actually show more emotion, and even yell at times, just to loosen up a bit and let out some frustration. At the time, I did admire his restraint, but wished he was better at shaking off the nerves. It was great to see him reach the QF as the 9th seed in this tournament. I think this was his last QF appearance or higher in a Grand Slam.

Disgustingly, the night of the 1992 U.S. Open 4th Round, USA Network kept jumping back-and-forth between the Edberg-Lendl Quarterfinal match ( which finished the next day) on the Stadium Court and the 4th Round Chang-Washington match on the Grandstand Court, showing mostly the Chang-Washington match which most tennis fans weren't the slightest bit interested in watching! Most tennis fans wanted to see the entire match uninterrupted between two of the greatest players to ever play the game - Lendl and Edberg! USA Network showed their pro-American bias, mind bogglingly and erroneously believing that tennis fans were more interested in watching two non-all-time great American players play than two all-time legends of the game! Brilliant decision USA Network!

I believe you meant that USA Network kept jumping back-and-forth between the Edberg-Lendl Quarterfinal match and the Chang-Ferreira Quarterfinal match 2 days later. Also here they were jumping back-and-forth between the Lendl-Becker 4th round and the Chang-Washington 4th round match. Once I purchased an old VHS tape of the Edberg-Lendl 1992 match, but almost most of the record was the Chang-Ferreira match, which was a bit annoying.

no, he was unlikeable because of his negative disposition, devoid of having/showing enjoyment of the game.. Becker is out of jail now.. and his experience makes him have an interesting story to tell that shows how he developed as a human being. Makes him more human and relatable. Nothing like that with Lendl.. gray, dull.. boring; he would have been a great policeman.. or law enforcer in a totalitarian regime; never straying away from the "righteous path".. but never having gained the kind of experience with which he could show empathy, love or sympathy either.. let alone generate it. He did have the nicest shirts and as a tennis player I enjoyed watching him because of motoric aspects.. it was esthetically pleasing the way he played the game.

Sure his serve lost some pace over the years but in 1996 he would serve aces routinely at 130 mph (I think the speed guns had still not been updated but they were from 2000 onwards) and with pin point accuracy. Before the technical advances of raquets, edberg had a nearly even h2h record in the mid to late 80s there were not the missle launchers that began in early to mid 90s. Once the super spin strings and the now modern technical raquets took hold Edberg began to get blown off the cojo. The strings and raquets killed off the long tradition of serving and volley

The men back then shook like the women players today. So formal, no side hugs. The guys today... unless they hate each other... always seem like they acknowledge each others' efforts while the women are cold as ice unless they are friends.

Does Lendl use Adidas gtx pro with Mizuno paint job?
@enematwatson1357
@enematwatson1357 2 жыл бұрын
In essence, yes. Although the history of who actually manufactured Lendl's racquet is a topic for specialists, he played almost his whole career with the same Kneissl frame in Adidas and then Mizuno paint jobs.

He's saying that Lendl is "disturbing" his serving rhythm by deliberately taking too much time. He mentioned how Lendl was taking "10-20 seconds talking to the ball boy" and Becker thought Lendl was doing it deliberately to put Becker off.
