I hadn't heard this upload. I love Berezovsky's interpretations of the miniatures of Medtner. This is solid. The form of this work is more traditional than the 1st, but it moves along swiftly and satisfyingly.

This is stellar playing from a wonderful composer. All 3 of this concertos deserve to stand next to Rachmaninov. Technically challenging, beautifully melodic and a terribly inventive. Again, where are the orchestral champions of Medtner in the concert hall. BRING ME BACK to the concert hall with music like this.....

Interesting little factoid...This concerto was dedicated to Rachmaninoff while Rachmaninoff dedicated his 4th Piano Concerto to Medtner. Do with that information what you will...

Este concierto es muy hermoso, lástima que es difícil de localizarlo en versión CD. Una gran versión de Berezovsky observo que este pianista está especializado en difundir música rusa. (Scriabin, Rachmaninov, y ahora Medtner este último un gran desconocido para mucha gente).

We can start with the tragedy of the discovering of late Scriabin in the western world. This took over 60 years,.In other instances we have even more painful problems. At the end of this Medtner is a even later romanticist born in the same year as Bartók. Therefore we may have here some problems with the musicologists. Okay Schönberg was a revolutionary born in the same year as Rachmaninoff. Many strange things happened with music throughout the 20th century. I personally feel the suppressed school of Russian visionaries influenced from Scriabin had the true answer.

There was no true answer, but many were worthy and great answers, and a few, like Medtner or late Scriabin(who at least has notoriety) deserve to be heard more and loved deeply. Schoenberg himself deserves more love too.

Medtner was one of Rachmaninov's few friends, so after you've heard all of Rachmaninov, it's probably time to listen to Medtner -- that's why I'm here!)

Sure, if you can find any melodic material worthy of revival. Berezovsky, Hamelin, and Tozer have all tried, and the revivals, like the tunes, don't stick.

@@bobschaaf2549 Says you. I've been whistling his tunes ever since I first heard him 25 years ago. He's got harmony to burn, counterpoint, keyboard texture, and earworm melodies and motifs ... melody is way overrated anyway.

Ну, в общем, 1-ю часть "загнал". После прекрасного вступления резко рванул вперёд и уже не нашёл в себе сил выровнять темп. При публичном выступлении такое бывает от сильного волнения. Но зачем тогда выставлять запись в ютубе? Абсолютную выверенность темпов при общей высокой энергетике исполнения даёт Абрам Шацкес, между прочим, ученик Метнера.

Ну, в общем, это только ваше личное мнение. Сам автор исполняет этот концерт тоже в довольно быстром темпе. На мой взгляд исполнение абсолютно корректное, соответствует авторской задумке. К тому же, Березовский не сам выставил видео на ютубе.

Au début, le rythme est trop lent. Cela gagnerait à ce qu'il y ait plus de nerf. on dirait que le soliste a peur de se planter. Il prend peu de risques. Décevant.

+Amit Mish'an Hardly, as anyone who has witnessed the Keith Jarrett idolatry of the nineties will testify. I like it that Berezovsky brings something unique to every performance - but I can appreciate that it isn't everyone's cup of tea. But then, soloists should take risks, we have more than enough competent virtuosos, but too few courageous ones.

+Bom Cabedal I agree. That's why Horowitz was such a great legend, and justfuly so. But I don't feel that Berezovsky is "taking risks" as much as he's just... screwing up :-)

Hm, don't know about that, but I haven't studied his recordings extensively enough to make a qualified judgment. I have to say that my favourite performer is probably Arthur de Greef, who always hit just the right balance between individualism and respect for the score.

The greatest respect for Hamelin, I was fortunate enough to see him play on two occasions. You might look up De Greef, there are a few recordings on KZbin from the 1920s. He was a personal friend of Grieg's and a pupil of Liszt (but who wasn't?), with a very modern attitude for the time.
