It is pure joy listening to this musician play this music

Superb, technically astonishing performance, with a highly original and effective take on certain dynamic and rhythmic choices, particularly in the conclusion. The best, most thoughtful, and ultimately most exciting performance I've found on youtube or on CD. Bravo!!!

My favorite of the Prokofiev sonatas (followed closely by no. 4 and no. 2). Thank you for contributing now one of my favorite interpretations and executions of this.

Fantastic. Im working this piece, even though its sometimes a bit too difficult. Thank you for playing at that level of perfection, its clinical but transparent. We fell with you what is just a dream or a farce. There is an extreme violence in this music, despite your mesmerising level of pianistic skills. You gained a follower, which is nothing compared to what I get listening carefully to your performance. Once again, many thanks.

Though I prefer slower tempi, Mr. Giltburg plays this remarkably cleanly, and I like his touch.

It's a very good performance of an extraordinarily difficult piece. In the final allegro section of the first movement though, I wish he didn't rush the music though. It's far too fast and you can't hear every note like you can with Kissin, Gilels or Richter.
@MultiRedskins125 жыл бұрын
A sad and pathetic baseless comment. There is nothing wrong with the end of the first movement. If you want to listen to Kissin et al, then listen to them! This is HIS interpretation so show some decency and respect who he does rather than finding the one perceived fault in what he does. An extremely narrow minded comment .
@DariusMo4 жыл бұрын
@@MultiRedskins12 So? And this is HIS own rightful criticism (if subjective) that reflects his own preferences of an interpretation of this piece. He never said that there's anything wrong with the end of the first movement, he would have preferred it differently though.

RACHMANOFF IS A LATE ROMANTIC COMPOSER. REDUCING THE MUSIC TO STRICT METRONOMIC STANDARDIZATION, THE LACK OF THE SUSTAINING PEDAL, AND PLAYING THE PIANO AS IF ONE IS PLAYING A COMPUTER IS NOT IN KEEPING WITH THE ROMANTICISM WHICH IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE COMPOSITION. YOU HAVE GONE TO FAR WITH TECHNICAL BRAVURA. LET THE MUSIC BREATHE, AND NOT AS IF IN A GAS CHAMBER. MORE LIKE THE AIR ALONG THE SEA SHORE AND PINE TREES. EVEN YOUR BODILY MOVEMENTS LOOK LIKE A TORTURED EMPLOYMEENT OF SOME 12 TONAL 20TH CENTURY MONATONY. RELAX AND ENJOY THE SENSUALITY OF THE MUSIC, MISSING HERE IN THIS PERFORMANCE. IT´S ROMANTICISM.

I'd be curious to know 2 things. 1. How did you come cross this video? Haha and 2. What are your thoughts now? I remember when I first heard Prokofiev I was not a huge fan. I thought there were moments that were "cool" but it was never my favorite. This sonata is actually what opened my mind up fully to the sound world of Prokofiev. The third movement specifically. It is just such a mischievous piece. So hilarious and dark a d witty. You aren't listening for beautiful lyricism like in chopin but rather for the encompassing narrative and emotional rawness that comes with it. It takes a few listens though.
