Boris Karloff, one name that reigned supreme! In 1931 Boris Karloff portrayed the Monster in the James Whale directed Universal Horror Movie "Frankenstein," making cinema history and becoming a Movie star and film sensation overnight. Of course, Boris is no longer with us, but his daughter Sara Karloff is carrying the torch, running Karloff Enterprises, and making herself available for this Randomland Conversation

I met Boris Karloff in the early 60s (I was a kid) he was the nicest man to me and my friends. We could hardly speak because to us HE was Frankenstein LOL.

She is a real lady. Wonderful. I loved her dad and she nailed it. Kids know Frankenstein is the victim and he is very sad. Enjoyed hearing her talk about her dad.

Boris Karloff is one of my favorite from the early days of movies! I just had to comment that one of my all time favorite movies of all time is Arsenic & old Lace! Boris Karloff played the role of the psychopathic brother in the play on Broadway! The play was extremely popular and was playing at the same time that the film was in production, so his role was given to Raymond Massey who was terrific, but I would have loved to be able to see Boris Karloff’s interpretation!!! Thank all of you, especially Ms. Karloff, you for this wonderful interview!!

My Dad used to tell a story from WWII when he was in Africa and the USO Tour came for shows to the weary servicemen. I believe Boris Karloff did USO tours, but you can ask Sara if she remembers this. My Dad said Boris talked about being "The Monster" and being only 5' 11", the shoes he had to wear were extra tall to make him look scary. I believe they also made him stand on a box for certain shots as was told to me. That was an effort by my Dad to make Boris seem more actor than monster when I was younger. What an incredible interview. Thanks so much.

I see Boris’s statue right behind Sara. My goodness! Sara is the female carbon copy of her beloved father, Boris, because the facial bone structure, eyes, nose and mouth are exactly the same to me. It’s like Boris is watching out for his baby girl. RIP Boris, one of the original kings of the Universal Monsters 😪🙏🏼

Thanks to Boris’s incredible performance as his iconic role, Frankenstein, it’s no wonder why Universal Studios Hollywood’s HHN’s director, John Murdy’s sentimental fave Universal Monster, because he cried out of sadness watching Frankenstein, as a kid. Holy cannoli! Boris won a Grammy! No kidding! 😮

Great interview. You’re a natural. I like how you didn’t interrupt and allowed her to speak. Fascinating stories. It shows you did your homework. I am a huge classic horror fan so I really enjoyed this interview. Sweet lady. I really hope she benefits financially from the her fathers success and not some one who has no relation to her father. It was funny how she didn’t answer your question about how was it as a kid trouble because of his voice. Im sure there’s more to that story, but she kept it classy

How wonderful for you to be able to interview the daughter of Boris Karloff. I enjoyed it immensely as I was a big fan of Mr. Karloff and have several of his movies on DVD. She seems to be a lovely person and I could listen to her talk about her father all day lol Incidentally, one of the very first horror movies I saw was Universal's original Frankenstein and fell in love with it, even at such an early age. I think I was 11 or 13 at the time.

Watching this interview inspired me. I’ve been struggling with getting into filmmaking myself. I gave up at one point. When you mentioned that Karloff was 44 when he got his big break, it got me to realize that it’s not too late for me as well and I’m 30.

As many scary moments in horror history that scene in Frankenstein where he backs in the room & slowly turns around is still the best these is . Sarah has been a real trooper doing all these things & for a long time & it shows in her demeanor she really loved her dad . Sad thing is this interview could go on for at least another hour & i would love to hear what Boris felt about doing the role of the evil Fu Man Chu which he played with great fun & cruelty, also his role in The Body Snatchers was top level from start to the horrifying end. He was the the best & as good as Lon Chaney was he was as close to his equal as it got. Gotta see if i can get a bag of that DARK COFFEE , i could almost smell & taste it !!!

I’m interested in the fact that he was married so many times, and most only lasted 2-3 years. People talk about female actresses’ multiple marriages, i .e., Elizabeth Taylor, but no one mentions male actors’ multiple marriages. Claude Rains was married six times, too. I know it’s a personal topic, but I’m curious..
