Title: Dynamically Obtaining Localized Quantum Fields From a Free Field Theory
Abstract: In this presentation I will discuss ongoing work on the evolution of a quantum field subject to a time-dependent, confining potential well. By making the potential gradually stronger with time, we expect to see an initially spatially delocalized field slowly become localized within a region that is determined by the minima of the potential. This can be interpreted as a concrete demonstration of how one can obtain a localized quantum field theory starting from quantum fields in free space. We then use these results to study how the time-dependent potential influences the mixedness of local modes defined from the quantum field, which is of relevance to the use of field-theory-based local probes in important protocols in Relativistic Quantum Information such as entanglement harvesting.
