This actually kind of makes me like the idea of Astarion and Karlach coupled. The lyrics of the song tie into their characters probably more than any of the others and they both just want to be able to live their life. Astarion wants to live without the threat and chains of his master and Karlach just wants to live and feel the loving touch of another.

When this started playing in camp before reaching Wyrm's crossing I had to stop everything I was doing. The fact that we constantly hear the instrumental version of this song in the background when at camp and that at this very moment, when the city could be seen in the distance, the version with lyrics started playing made it incredibly magical. I went towards the ledge and enjoyed the view until the song ended. @@Kanikanihia "It also bothers me how people keep calling him just gay, when he’s pan and I feel that’s quite important for him as well." I disagree. There is nothing in Astarion’s past or his behaviour that demonstrates that he have a interest for women. Even if I understand the approach that all the romances of the game are pan, I find that it goes a little against the depth of the characters. They are all hollow, bland about who their partner are. However, I do not think it is a defect. There will always people for and people against. But for Astarion, we are not going to lie, he is clearly gay coded. I am not referring to his behavior but these relationships with NPCs. Astarion twice mentions old relationships that are both men; Sebastian and the "darling boy" who he let run away. He shows a clear disgust for Araj Oblodra; who is a woman. For me, this whole scene with Araj is a metaphor with an Astarion who can be forced to give himself for someone who does not attract him, the blood/taste did not catch him at all. There is also a scene where Astarion responds with saracasm that he is "a princess married to a tarrasque named Jonathan". All these little details make sense. That’s why people say Astarion is gay. Let’s say all of this it's a coincidence, then why in the teasers of the game we see Astarion with a male dwarf as partner while all the other companions (Gale, Wyll, Karlach, Halsin and Shadowheart) are showing with an opposite sex partner? So Astarion is canonically pan, but he clearly has a preference for men.

I love how this song has ticking clocks inside it, it's as if you're hearing the countdown the different characters have. because in a way, they're all on time limits. as well as the tadpole, Karlach has her engine, Gale the orb, Shadowheart is trying to get to her destination as soon as she can, Astarion's days outrunning Cazador are very much numbered, Lae'zel is trying to get home before she transforms, and Wyll is trying to get out of his pact before it inevitably kills him. there's other limits they have but I don't want to spoil too much lol, and even Halsin and Minthara have themes of time being uncertain. everyone thinks of Astarion with this song but it also works very well for Durge, which considering they were originally the only protagonist and Tav was added later, makes me wonder if this is supposed to be a POV of the Durge and their lover

Playing this song on repeat...so beautiful and now nostalgic as well. As far as I remember this song is about the players character no? I know you can apply it to many characters (from what I saw people are mainly saying it's about Astarion), but everytime I hear it, I remember my character and I try to imagine what a person like that might be feeling when they are alone in their tent at night, thinking about all that's happened and all that is still going to happen. A person that's gone through all these hardships, obsticales, met friends and lovers on the way, helped people, experienced joy, sadness, anger, excitement and love, what are they thinking? Even if they are a part of me projected onto a videogame character, I still see them as a separate entity, a dear friend whom I escorted on this journey. ...It's a weird feeling, am I alone in feeling like this?? XD

A friend of mine pointed something out when he first heard this song: It's formatted as rhyming couplets, popular in, among other things, drinking songs because it's easy for each person to do two lines of their own. Now every time I hear it I imagine the party sitting around the fire, each of them opening up and singing their own line. Maybe on subsequent nights they recite each-other's verses that resonated with them or that new events let them really understand.

This just fits Astarion and Durge so beautifully, especially given how it can be differently interpreted depending if you do evil/reformed Durge and Spawn/Ascended Astarion. Either its about overcoming and rising or giving into the darkness.

My world of warcraft guild leader introduced me to this song and now it's gotten me into BG3, possibly into trying to play an instrument again (if I could find tabs or sheet music that sounded accurate), and the line "There's more to do if we can only live" is probably going to be my mantra through winter depression.

I cried when this started playing in the credits when I finally beat the game. The music in this game is just as spectacular as everything else. Also, does anyone else get reminded of O Death from Until Dawn with the line "a soft caress as cold as death"? I thought of it the first time I heard it.

I heard this music and vocals play in camp! I was so surprised with this level of detail that Larian inserted this at camp. I was so enthralled and finally found it in youtube. I don't know if anyone else heard this song at camp? I don't think everyone will. Don't know how I triggered it. But Im so excited more than ever to play the full release of the game. I've played as a Paladin during the demo, and now feel more excited than ever now that I have gained so much more experience and understanding of the mechanics, skills, spells and features of the game. I even went and listened in youtube about the Forgotten Realms landmarks, lores, and characters for greater immersion! I'm so ready to kick ass when the game comes out!

I triggered it at the end of Act 2 when the party makes the camp overlooking Baldur's Gate down below. While I was putsing about chatting to my companions the instrumental was playing but by the time I found a cliff edge that gave great views of the city at night doiwn below the lyrics suddenly swelled. Had to of been of purpose. So much dopamine in that small moment as the games when they released when I was younger meant so (too?) much to me.

This song makes me cry. Every. Single. Time. It shouldn’t. Those characters are not real. I think it’s because this song reaches deep into the base desire to be free and live. When these characters have been denied this most base right by mistake or unfortunate circumstances + to top it all up they have mind flayer tadpoles in their skull, it just feels unfair. Yet they don’t give up to despair, they push on with the hand fate is dealt. That I think resinates with people in their soul. I think this is why this song makes me cry. Thank you Borislav & team.
