Yes, they absolutely blew me away with the postures and facial expressions of everybody. I usually play for the game, not so much the story. This time I am 100% immersed and I think that's why. It really sucked me in. Skyrim was my favorite before this, but Skyrim is so rigid in that aspect now that I have a comparison. I actually care and feel emotion in this game. Have to pause and think through decisions for a while sometimes even, because I care, not because I'm worried about the surface level consequences.

This is the song that made me decide that Yennefer of Vengerberg was the one for Geralt. Every time I do another playthrough and decide to be with Triss, I change my mind as soon as I hear "To dream of raven locks entwisted, stormy; Of violet eyes, glistening as you weep", that does it for me. Every. Single. Time.
@sladjanteodosin46072 жыл бұрын
"Yennefer of Vengerberg was the one for Geralt" Always has been.
@person9062 жыл бұрын
It's really open to interpretation. When I listened to this for the first time, the line that really sticks out to me is "the wish I whispered when it all began, did it forge a love you may have never found". The camera cuts to Geralt, guiltily looking down. The song has really somber chord changes too. It makes sense that the first thing Yen does in skellige is break the wish. I chose Yen in the end because I would feel so guilty if Geralt, the one who made the wish, ultimately left Yen. In my story Geralt couldn't tell Yen the truth - that the wish was all that kept his infatuated love going. He replaces the wish with a lie.
@muatring2 жыл бұрын
@@person906 The Wish wasnt about them loving each other, it was about binding their fates together, and as you probably know, Djinns are malicious creatures and will not grant your wishes in a good way, so none of that ''The wish bound them together by love and they loved each other forever and lalalala'' that kind of good fairy tale kind of wish doesnt exist on the witcher universe, the Djinn always try to grant the wish in a perverse way, in the case of this wish, the djinn bound his fate to yens, so when yen died, he would die as well, in the end of the books geralt is stabbed and yen gives up her life to protect him. The love has nothing to do with the Wish, geralt was madly in love even before the wish and yen literally gave her life for geralt at the end of the books, so it's pretty obvious that she loved him, and considering the ''afterlife'' dialogue that they had just reinforces that their love was legitimate, since the last wish geralt made self-fulfiled when he and yen died together and when they spoke in the ''afterlife'' they werent under any bound of magic and still felt just the same and wanted to live together with each other forever.

This game won Game of the Decade 2010-2020, and arguably the most important decade of gaming when it comes to the evolution of gaming. Like no other, this game had a soul. No other game, movie, or show was able to portray such an immersive feeling like this scene. A true moment of peace within their cruel and unforgiving world that we all felt. The game is so masterfully well-crafted that I wouldn’t be surprised if the next two Game of the Decade can’t even be compared to The Witcher 3.

I mostly agree with you here. I'd only add that there were a few games from the early two thousands that, while not as sophisticated or as big as the Witcher 3 still pulled me in to a similar extent. The old Prince of Persia trilogy as the foremost example. I think those three games had a level of soul comparable to the Witcher 3, as well as a deep lore and well-crafted wold that we never got to see enough of due to Ubisoft annoyingly abandoning the series in favour of Assasin's Creed before they could make at least one large free-roaming iteration of it. I was a grumpy teenger back then and the Prince of Persia series offered me escape and inspiration like nothing else could except for very well written books like Lord of the Rings- and, a bit later on, the Witcher books. I'd put the Witcher 3 in that category, too, perhaps Witcher 1 as well, but they are not quite so singular to my mind if we consider more than just the last decade. Within the last decade, though, yes, the Witcher 3 is pretty singular. Perhaps Assasins Creed Origins is about equal to it. I think the Elder Scrolls universe has the potential to be as deep, also, but Bethesda continually fail to create games as soulful as CD Projekt Red and Ubisoft.

@@AzariahYalanBenjamin It was a great pleasure to find a fellow PoP fan here. Those four installments really defined my teenage gaming years. Diving into those characters really made me forget myself. I vividly remember how Kaileena death in Two thrones and Farah's death in Sands of Time made me disgruntled, while just the presence of Dahaka in Warrior Within was enough to raise the heartbeats. But alas! How they butchered my boy for Assassin's creed.

I wouldn't care if they didn't force the musical taste of others into our ears, but they do. all about the money. if "everyone" felt like tucking their penises between their legs and jumping around like a frog, media would build on that and in a year, those who kept their shit together would be "weird". and now I've the right to be a hater :)

This has to be one of the best character introductions in a game ever. You spent hours wondering Novigrad, doing odd jobs, finally trying to find Dandelion, then asked to find this new bard, which feels like a fetch quest, but after one song you feel an instant emotional connection to her. Which makes what happens to her later in the story even more gut wrenching. Other games have npcs, in Witcher 3 you have friends.

You know a game is a work of art when developers put so much detail and effort on music in scenes like this
@jazzx2512 жыл бұрын
It's not just this scene though ... just look at the amazing DLC, arguably better stories than the main game with terrific new music, creatures, bosses, characters, actors, situations ... And the direction of EVERY cutscene is movie quality (a very good movie at that) - even for the most mundane scene. The writing is fantastic - I don't think this level is repeatable - even if you gave a studio 2 billion dollars to "make the best ever RPG" ... it would be technically perfect, but it wouldn't have anywhere close to the heart of this game. It wouldn't even come close to Witcher 3's better side-missions. The music. There you go, unrepeatable. There is so much of Poland/Eastern Europe in the soundtrack, played on real folk instruments. You would have thought I would have tired of "yede-le-le-le-lel-le le-lelelelele" by now! ... but no :) Brilliant! You would have thought I would be tired of the Gwent/tavern music? No way. Gaunter O'Dimm's theme and Lullaby of Woe are perfect. Unrepeatably perfect. Any 2 billion dollar RPG that just chucks in some folk instruments will rightly be accused of "copying Witcher 3" .. which is unrepeatable. This game is brilliant - it makes you feel like a hero in a genuine way. There's a Geralt inside all of us, it seems. Unrepeatable.

The song is incredible, but I was kind of 100% on-board with one of Geralt's dialogue choices immediately after - can you imagine how fucking painful and disturbing it would be to walk into a bar and listen to a complete stranger singing about the intricacies of the constatly-difficult, at times painful romantic relationship that has basically defined your life? To hear one of your own deepest insecurities *sang* at you in front of a crowd, knowing this isn't the first crowd to hear it? I can imagine few things more personally violating. I can't believe that I am just now playing this game (after it has been out for like what 6-7 years)? I am gasping how the story is well done, completed everything in White Orchard, I was completely speechless by the quest in Vizima when I met the emperor (voiced by Charles Dance, one of the most iconic actors and the voice I would remember anywhere), then Velen was so harsh and frightening ( I've had a hard time just to go to the The Orphans of Crookback Bog), then the Bloody Barron storyline was fabulous, and now deep in Novigrad, already questing here for the entire day and I just lost my shit when I heard this song. Now it's like I don't want to continue because I know this masterpiece will end at certain time and I won't be able to have this feeling of being amazed by the unknown and unexpected beauty.

I find it funny the developers decide introduce this song about Yennefer around the time you meet Triss and try to make you care about her.
@ABxtan9 жыл бұрын
Nazareadain It's probably there to remind non-bookfags that "Yen is still out there so don't just fall right for Triss so soon". It also makes more sense for Priscilla to meet and work with you since she's already familiar with you through Dandelion.
@Nazareadain9 жыл бұрын
Bo Tan as an independent product it seems a little too heavy for a reminder as the player has yet to make any real connection with yen yet. Not that I don't like the bombast.
@ABxtan9 жыл бұрын
Exactly, no connection, the song is to help build the connection. It serves as a placeholder for the "Geralt+Yen" love theme for future interactions. In my opinion, so far (got Dandelion, just went to Skellige) the game is pushing the "canon" romance for Yen and constantly tells you that Triss is over with 6 months ago. This song would be one of those "push". I do think it's more for the latter reason, though: to give an impression of Dandelion being a blabbermouth and explains why Priscilla would open up to you.
@NikiDimitrov9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was like "I love you Triss" f Yen..she is never around.

Nazareadain Because developers know and respect what Sapkowski wrote. Geralt needs and loves only Yennefer and Ciri. Triss choice is just a choice to make the kids who didnt read the books happy. Nothing more. If Sapkowski wrote this scenario in his book Triss could have only the one role - a friend. And not the best friend.

Played this game in 2015 and am playing it again as I write this. Hearing this song again after 7 years is like rediscovering your first love 💕…this is one of the greatest moments in video games (or of fiction in general)….where does one begin?…the perfect melody, the telling of Geralt’s story in a ballad…the fact that even the king of beggars stops to listen…zoltan musing…geralt shifting intently and then at the end the skeptic himself standing up to applaud…wow…just wow….the wolven storm indeed 👏

I remember my first playthrough when I saw this scene. Came outta absolutely nowhere. After the song I had to put the controller down, and just stare at the wall a bit. Man, what a game.

I’ve yet to find another story that creates as riveting a romance as the Wild Hunt did. It is so nuanced and mature in its presentation. Especially for newcomers who find Yen to be aloof and cold while Triss is far more spunky and openly affectionate. If you pass up Triss but are still kind to her, the game drives home the point that these two individuals have that spark and affection for each other and it’s heartbreaking to reject her advances. But then you continue on for a while, thinking “I made a mistake!” Until you finally pick up on the dynamic of Geralt and Yen. You can tell that there is real history here, it’s the kind of love that is a much slower burn. These are two individuals that are content in their love for each other, they are fully independent and trust each other’s abilities fully. Even far apart they act like how a family acts. A father searching for his wife and daughter, the reasonable one. The mother desperately seeking her daughter, comforted in the calm her partner brings. It’s beautiful. And Dandilion and Precilla!! Oh it’s so sweet to see young love. For the sex hungry and arrogant man to be absolutely floored and in awe of the talent of someone else and to even pass up the opportunity with a woman because he desires his counterpart. So precious. The writers of this game nailed the beauty and complexity of many forms of love and it’s a joy to experience

I was emotionally struck harder by denying Shani than Triss. Shani was well played in her emotional responses. As much as Triss is infatuated with Geralt, I feel Shani "felt" more for G. I mean I think back to W1 when you n Triss do the dirty like 5 mins in lol

This song was beautiful. Shame it's inspired by such an unlikable character. I'm fully aware of Geralt's history with Yennifer from the books. Still don't think there's anything remotely mature about her character or the relationship she has with Geralt. Yen is so guarded with her emotions that Geralt practically has to move heaven and earth before she's willing to show an ounce of tenderness towards him without juxtaposing or masking it with sexual innuendo or taciturness. To me, that doesn't make her a deep character or particularly endearing. It makes her a tragic, damaged character with loads of trust issues. I've dated women like that, and it's never once been worth it in the end. Within the continuity of the games, Yen is the last person I would ever romance. Since Shani wasn't an option past a hook up (which is really a tragedy), I definitely would choose Triss every single time. It's not even a contest.

I red books for the first time like 15 years ago. Its my all time favourite. And let me say, for 15 years I waited for Geralt to dump that raven haired harpy. And in W3 I had a chance to undo his last wish - I didnt hesitate for a single moment. They are held together only by magic of that wish, nothing natural about that. And, frankly, any man who likes a relationship like that has a problem.

well said, really good points you have here. and to proof your points: people are discussing why they chose triss or yen 5 YEARS after finishing the game... a true masterpiece (*spoiler: i restarted the game when i realized triss really left after the scene at the pier - i just couldnt handle that :-))

"Because this is what it does, it appeals to the male fantasy" The male fantasy: *Wolven Storm, The fields of Ard Skellig or the Kaer Morhen theme, exploring the Skellige isles, Geralt and Yen spying on Ciri like parents, meeting Zoltan, Dandelion and Regis, settling in Corvo Bianco, admiring Toussaint, playing Gwent, and watching the 10th anniversary of the Witcher video as you're crying tears of nostalgia and happiness, happy for the happy ending of those fictional friends you've went through so much with* More than 2 years later, first year of college, and after reading almost all of the Witcher books and waiting for the update, here I am listening to this beautiful piece of art. I just cried :').

Why? Can you explain what part of "creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power" (wikipedia) does not apply to videogames?

Actually I would say the Mass Effect series was better, especially 3 as controversial as that is. No other game has made me cry so many times (Mordin's death, liara's "I did just write your name in the stars", the PTSD commando, even the cheating wife and so many more and thats not even mentioning how you can create a relationship in the first game and watch it develop through the series, how liara is reluctant in 2 until you kiss her) However the witcher 3 comes second. Skyrim has some great music and the first time I played it I couldn't put it down but it doesn't have the depth of story that the other 2 have. The main thing skyrim has is the dovahkiin song which is amazingly stirring but that's about all. That said I don't think WItcher 3 actually lives up to its own cinematic, the "a night to remember" cinematic had more depth than the actual game does

If you like this song, i highly (!) recommend you to listen to the songs by John Dowland. This song is actually inspired by the renaissance lute songs, which John Dowland is most famous for. I recommend for example Flow my Tears, Come heavy Sleep, Can She Excuse My Wrongs or Come Away, Come Sweet love by him! Wonderful music, give it a try
